Why not turn the scientist into a skeleton or ghost, giving the impression they died ages ago, and keeping with the feeling that their creations are remnants of some ancient civilization, now long gone.
Firstly, there's already a mod for that, which I think recently updated to 1.12
Secondly, the creators made it rather clear that there would be no more dragon types beyond the Ice and Fire dragons. They are so ironclad about that I think the closest you would get to a new types of dragon would be a new color for either ice or fire dragons and that's me hypothesizing.
There is also a werewolf mod already, though the name escapes me. If there is compatibility between this and that mod, then Werewolves should exist as a third faction against the hunters and the vampires.
So Blood Magic just got a 1.12 update. It would be cool if the two mods interacted, with the player able to draw from the blood altar for blood bottles and vice versa, and (possibly when they're a full vampire so it's not game breaking) Vampire players can use the soul nexus (basically draw power from their altar from afar) to feed to their thirst.
Yeah, but that could be annoying for someone who doesn't want their dragon to change. Maybe a compromise, you give the dragon a potion, or an item, and then when they get hit by lighting, they become skeletal. Or, you could give players a way to turn their dragons back.
For a skeletal Dragon... maybe when a/your dragon dies, you get their skull, and you can enchant it, plop on the ground and you wait and it rises up as a skeletal dragon. Also maybe they show up around old nests, or are rare spawns.
An idea, for Mod Integration, Evilcraft, that uses blood as a power source, with tanks of their own and such, and it would be cool, if Vampirism blood and Evilcraft blood were interchangeable.

Considering how similar these are, can't they just be alternate versions of each other, or merge them?

So....that means we can take our dragons and burn down our enemies with them soon?

Personally I would rather keep the current system you originally envisioned for this mod may I suggest just making it configurable?

You know there is an integration side mod, that gives such values to Animania mods yes?

There is a Vampirism Integration mod on Curseforge, from this same author. It makes it that you can turn MCA villagers into Vampires.

I'm surprised no one is talking about the Realm of the Dragons mod.
