I should have my 7970s in a few days but I will have to wait till January for the water blocks. Maybe if EK is fast enough I can get CF benchmarks up within a couple weeks.
Well I have a MSI laptop that was free from work and I would never pay for a gaming laptop. Even though my laptop would be considered a gaming laptop I've never used it as one. I personally have no use for such a thing. I built a small LAN rig and that's the only time I need to game outside of my own house.
I gave up a long time ago trying to sway people from buying Alienware or Mac's. If they're to lazy to spend a couple hours researching the products they buy they deserve to get ripped off.
I'm currently using a Ducky Shine keyboard with a Logitech G9x mouse. The keyboard is amazing but I've only been using it for a little over a week. Not sure if it's better then my Deck Legend or not yet.
I have a bunch of different mice and I just keep coming back to this one. It fits my hand the best and the drivers are good unlike most other gaming mice.
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB - This is probably the problem with the BSOD's. I sold my 240Gb ones because of the constant crashes they caused. The current drivers seem to fix most of the problems once you reinstall but i didn't make it that long.
Out of curiosity do you have all CPU Sleep States disabled?
When you first installed the drive what firmware was on the Vertex 3?
Secure Erase the disk, reset cmos and reinstall with latest RST driver is usually the easiest way to fix the problem.
Measured with a ruler cuz I lost all the manuals from the premade computer and again this is my first upgrade so i dont know much about PCs. Thanks for your feedback. I really appreciate it! :laugh.gif: :smile.gif: :biggrin.gif:
That sounds like a Slimeline case if it's only 5.5 inches wide. Do you know the make and model of this computer? Is it running a TFX power supply?
ATX power supplies are 5.9" wide. So, unless you measured wrong you will need a new case and power supply.
Out of those cards I would pick the Sapphire model.
THE CM Storm Scout has more room behind the motherboard tray but it still doesn't have the greatest cable management being a older design. Ideally you want to have a hole near the end of the PSU to pass cables through. Another hole near the bottom right hand side of the motherboard for the front I/O. Yet another hole near the middle right side of the board for the 24 pin. A small hole to pass through the 8 pin near the top left or above the chassis frame but this one isn't as needed as the others. You can always run it up through the cpu cut out and over.
The new AMD HD 7970 is gonna be released on the 22nd of this month I believe. The HD 7950 on January 9th and the mid range cards later in the month or start of February if no delays happen. All of them will be a bit more expensive then the current cards since they will have no competition for a few months. They are powerful enough to wait for.
Ivy Bridge and Z77 boards are scheduled to launch in the 2nd through 4th quarter of 2012. It's a much longer wait but might not be worth waiting for if your just gaming. The 1155 boards will be backwards compatible with IB but with a little bit less features and you will be able to upgrade later if needed.
The i5 2500k with a $60 cooler can reach 4.6-5GHz safely and stable for 24/7 usage depending on the chip. It's more then enough for any gamer for years. The way technology works your gonna be outdated every 3-6 months if you want to stay near the top. So, if you want to wait or not is up to you.
I use to have two 240GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD's and I was really happy the day i found a sucker to buy them off me. You should check their forum to see all the problems people have with them. Should probably stick with Intel or Crucial if you want a quality SSD. Unless you don't mind blue screens.
Those speakers are pretty bad I would choose something like the Swan M10 or Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. Bose is more marketing then quality. (think alienware)
You actually gonna take advantage of the blue ray burner? I have one and it was pretty much a waste I rarely use it.
Seems kind of odd to get a huge case like the new cosmos and just use one small 240 rad.

Seems pretty stupid to put a X79 into a laptop to me. It will probably be $4000+ and still won't come close to a desktop. Royal waste of money.

Sennheiser HD 202 & JVC HARX500 aren't to bad either for cheap headphones.
