Ah, I read "Fully Working Auto Updater You Will Never Have to Manually Update it Again" and thought it would do the whole process.

Well it practically does, it saves you from going through files, and getting it, it's very handy, we use it HEAPS.

How exactly does the update code work?
xcopy "%USERPROFILE%\Dropbox\BatchChat\updates\BatchChat v*.*.zip" "%CD%"

Ahh, you didn't quite get it all, lemme explain.

set version=1.7
IF EXIST "%USERPROFILE%\Dropbox\BatchChat\updates\BatchChat v%version%.zip" goto started
IF EXIST "%USERPROFILE%\Dropbox\BatchChat\updates\BatchChat v*.*.zip" goto update
:update
echo Now Updating To Latest Version
xcopy "%USERPROFILE%\Dropbox\BatchChat\updates\BatchChat v*.*.zip" "%CD%"
echo Finished Updating
echo Now Exiting Please use The Latest Client
pause
exit

The set version, at the top, just tells what version THIS client is.
The if exist statements check if there is a new zip file in the \updates\ folder of the dropbox (new meaning different to itself)
xcopy just copies that zip onto your computer, in that directory.
Then it will exit, and you can extract the new one, and look at it if you please, then run it and its the new client :smile.gif:

If you or me can think of a good way to send messages from the program, to the batch file than I can make a gui?

I have one idea. You could make a batch file send-message.bat and then the(GUI) program could pass in the message as a parameter, and then it would have already saved the server and name ect to a file and then it could send it... Just an idea...

Edit:

As a rule of thumb, if you have lots of posts, they generally won't post viruses - that is generally for 0 - 10 post posters...

Yeah, we want the client to receive messages too, but doing so will be hard, that's why we want more people to join us, hopefully some that know a bit about batch, and can help us out :smile.gif:

gave it a look. Nothing suspicious at all. IMO of rather limited utility.

Well, yeah, we sorta made it to chat while shubshub had really bad internet.
But also, it isnt ONLY chat as of yesterday, me and Vx worked on friends list (still working on it), pming (while in client), and banning, along with ban appeals.
It's pretty fun, not the most handiest thing to chat with, but hey, its still in progress, but one thing that we do like about it is, its just right on your desktop, or whereever, and it's awesome. We've all been working on making it all into just one client, which will be done soon enough.

Batch is not easer to write or read or do graphics, but it is easer to do certain functions, I once wrote a program that wrote and ran a batch file...

Well making it with batch has actually been awesome, Ive made an in-client editor that edits permissions. Hopefully me and Vx can get access to add people to the dropbox, because it doesnt seem that I can, which is a pain. Have you asked to be added to it?

Cool! But why write it in batch, programming is easier... You could even mix teh two!

What sort of programming.. batch programming is programming too :smile.gif:
Plus we all know batch, and its easier.

How does this exactly work?
I download it..register.
Open ChatBox then type a message.
Then it sends it to a server? Uploads my chat to a site?

Do I need to install Dropbox?
I need a walkthrough/tutorial on how to set this up and use it.

Sorry about that. Dont bother starting it yet, itll spam you with errors until you are with us in dropbox. You must download dropbox and pm shubshub to be added, when you pm him tell him your email, that way he can add you.
Sorry its such a hassle, but we dunno how to set up a server and stuff, so we went with dropbox, still works fine, and make sure you install dropbox into your userprofile, nowhere else (userprofile is the default location)

Well I am sorta slowing down my redstone pace since the other server I am usually am on require some work against invaders from other towns within the server.

But I am still working on my projects.

Oh, cool, Ive also slowed down on my redstone pace, Ive taken up creating a Batch program with 2 friends of mine, vxstorm, from the RDF, and shubshub, from the RDF too.
Its called BatchChat, it is not a virus.. You can trust me on that.. Here is the link.

It uses Dropbox? Really? Do be aware that Dropbox is plagued with security issues. Any conversations had with this program can be intercepted and read by anyone who really wants to read it.

Any conversations can be viewed, whats so wrong with that? Its not like we're going to be trading drugs or nothing on here, and if that is your intentions.. Go for something more secretive.
