Dec 6, 2014was playing Sky Factory on the ATLauncher which got updated with carpenter's blocks, I noticed that I couldn't use the stained glass from Tinker's Construct for "cover" block...I know the main website says you can add cover exceptions, but I can't find the config file to do that, where would it be?Posted in: Minecraft Mods
Apr 23, 2014Hm, I might check it out later, but right i'm playing a different alteration to Skyblock known as Sky Factory created by Bacon_Donut...Its an amazing modded skyblock, but as the description says, callling it modded skyblock is like calling the Batmobile a "car"Posted in: Maps

Yes something like that, although I did build it like that just to make it look good and attractive to look at if someone were to make an LP series on the map, but using Silverfish blocks is a really nice idea, I tried putting a roof on the spawning room, but in my testing of spawning into the world, I'd end up spawning on the roof, but if you wanted to, you could put a glass roof, and like under the spawning platform, you could use a command block setup using the testfor block command for if someone tries break the glass roof, the command block would just replace it. So you can't get back into the spawn room, even if you tried. This plan seems to create less lag then having a command block setup to remove the entire spawn room upon exit.Quote from MegaTrain
Hey, Slytherite, some technical questions about your spawn room (I'm working on my own map now...):
I totally see why it is necessary now, the "world spawn point" even keeps passive mobs (cows, sheep, etc) from spawning within 24 blocks, this kind of messed everything up.
So, I need a 20x20 pad around the spawn point, since players can spawn anywhere in that space? (This prevents the Skyblock "falling forever" bug).
I do like your design, although if you had simply built it out of bedrock, that would prevent any mob spawning.
I got another devious idea, though: build the spawning platform out of silverfish stone blocks: completely unusable!
Making that spawn room is actually quite common in other custom maps, as it does fix both the player spawning problem, and the mob spawning problem. I've also went into the nether and fixed the zombie pigman spawning problem.

Thank you very much 5th...this is actually the very first time ever making something like this and sharing it on the forums...and I'll be honest, I haven't even been playing my own map in a long time...I've been busy with RL and other games and when I do get on MC its either playing on a server, or playing Sky Factory, a really fun version of modded Skyblock....If you think Skyblock, Oceanblock, or even Pancake Survival...this one will drive you bonkers...(Hint: you start out on top of a tree sitting on a single block of dirt! and the only thing in your inventory is a few instruction books and a single torch. No water, no stone, just you, a tree, a block of dirt and an endless void to keep you company!)Quote from 5thHorseman
Wow! OceanBlock survives! Nicely done, Slytherite, keeping the fires burning. I'll admit I totally dropped through a hole in the Bedrock for quite some time. I haven't played MC in about 3 months and haven't been to the forums for probably 6 or more so I didn't even know this was going on. Good to see all the names still here.
Megatrain, the last thing I did in Minecraft was set up a MegaVillage for a MP server I was on, so they could trade anything for anything I'll have to watch your The End video.
Feb 25, 2014Hey there guys, Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is enjoying my 5.0 version of Oceanblock...Might check to see about the "not pretty" biome edges you guys were talking about and see what I can do about it. And welcome to the thread Mega, so do you have any plans to try out my version?Posted in: Maps

So I finally broke down and DLed the comp version of Minecraft, this is the first map I started up on it. WOW, just WOW. After having to restart 3 times, twice for not getting any saplings from the initial trees, and once for being an idiot. I have got it going now, all biomes marked out and being carefully cultivated. Will start getting some pics going and such. But thanks for the update, this is a blast.
Well I'm glad that you are enjoying yourself. I'll be thinking of ways to improve the map an keep it as fun and exciting as the original one was, as well as include any new features that Mojang adds to Minecraft...as for 1.8, I might add some more lapis ore since it'll be needed for enchanting. For the other new stuff like the new types of stone and slime blocks, those shouldn't be an issue and should already be obtainable with the current version of Oceanblock.

A word of warning to anyone who plans to play this map under 1.8 - this map just became a LOT harder. Not only has villager breeding changed (you have to trade with every villager every time you want them to breed), but iron and gold farming have been seriously nerfed, with the latest snapshot, iron golems will not drop iron unless you actively kill them. No more automated kill chambers or safely killing them with sand or pistons. Likewise, zombie pigmen will not drop gold unless you kill them yourself (both iron and gold nugget drops are now rare just like weapons and armor are for zombies and skeletons. Of course, none of this is set in stone yet, but unless there is a serious backlash on any of this, it is the shape of things to come. To see how this all works, check out some of the videos by docm77 on YouTube,
Well this map was designed to be played using 1.7, and I won't be held responsible for any problems encountered in the map for those that try to play it in the 1.8 snapshots...so I'll say this:
For full enjoyment of the map, please use MC version 1.7 when playing this map. I may make adjustments to this map for 1.8 but not until an official release is made, as things in snapshots are not set in stone and may change over time!

Okay, I'm an idiot to biomes it seems. Could someone explain to me which are included, and where they are? I've spread grass all over, and based on the color of the grass, it looks like there's five biomes, one in each corner, and one in the middle, is that right? Anyway, as far as I can tell, the north-west one is taiga, the south-west one is swamp, and with all the Ocelots spawning, I'm guessing north-east is jungle. If I'm right, what are the remaining two?
That's it, thanks in advance!
yes you have 3 of the 5 biomes correct.
This is a rough overview of the biomes...and everything outside these 5 biomes is a plains biome.
To get a better idea of how big each of the biomes are, press F3, and it'll tell you the name of the biome the current block you are standing on is in. If you look under the X, Y, and Z coords, you see the name of the biome ("b: Plains" for example)

I still think that one of the best ways to live early on is reliant upon fishing - getting string is the tricky part though! Thanks for the map update Sly I'll have to try it out (hopefully in a MP fashion but we'll see).
Np hillhome. I was glad to get this awesome map updated to 1.7, and with the spawning mechanics I implemented, the map is totally MP friendly!

Best tip I can give - plant five or six oak trees. If you are limited on space, you can store the other saplings in your chest until you have room for them. And be sure to plant them at least six blocks apart (five blocks between) - you don't want the foliage to grow together to get the maximum amount of leaf blocks. This will improve your chances of getting enough apples to live on. Be sure to make a large enough wooden platform to catch all the drops. And put a torch next to each tree to maximize the light it gets - it will grow faster if you do. Also, if you convert your wood into half-slabs and place them in the lower position, mobs won't spawn on them sop you can save your torches for other areas. Plus, the wood will go twice as far. Just don't make your "village" out of half slabs - villagers can glitch through half slabs and drown.
Ya great advice, I do that in my own map...its actually what prevented me from starving early on until I finished my mob farm and could get crops growing!
I know, but sometimes you get really unlucky and not get that trade...which is why there is the stuff on the ocean floor to help get to the nether!
Actually, you don't have to even for that - you can trade for one with a villager once they start breeding.
Dec 16, 2013Posted in: Maps
going to the ocean floor is recommended...and actually required if you plan on going to the nether...but there is no food down there...you'll have to rely on Apples from oak trees until you make a mob farm to get bones to turn into bonemeal, and carrots/potatoes from zombies. If you weren't supposed to go to the ocean floor, then there wouldn't be anything down there at all...lolQuote from Apep
I started to record a lets play on this one, but it is so hard I'm not doing very well, don't know if I'll actually upload it or not.
Character is about to starve to death leading me to some random acts of desperation not to mention an inability to count when calculating recources needed.
Started out with the best of intentions on keeping it looking pretty but it didn't work out according to plan.
One quick question though,....it's not against the rules to look for more recources on the ovcean floor is it?
Also : is there any food down there?
But I would recommend that you not go back to the spawning room...its quite far away and not worth the trip...
Dec 11, 2013I'm feeling generous today, so I'll give everyone a free piece of advice...As some (or even all of you) may know, witches can spawn naturally among every other mob, so having a good mob farm will be even more useful in 5.0 then it was in previous versions! so in addition to getting random pieces of damaged armor, swords, shovels, and tons of rotten flesh, bones, arrows, and gunpowder...lots more goodies will come from that!Posted in: Mapsfree glowstone dust and redstone! Although this method is sort of unreliable, but would you expect from minimal effort! And think of it this way, redstone is now renewable and you won't have to worry about having to deal with some of those greedy villagers!
Dec 8, 2013Posted in: Maps
Actually it is carpet with glowstone underneath...didn't want the spawn room to get dark for if it became nighttime while someone was doing a Let's Play or waiting for their friends to log in. It also serves a double purpose of keeping mobs from spawning. Also, although there is redstone behind the wall...breaking it would kind of break the map, and the general rule of custom maps is to not do something that would break the map. The command blocks would be useless as you can't use them if you're in survival. Used carpets as there is no villager trade that uses it so it would be useless beyond decoration.Quote from MegaTrain
All I see in the screenshot is bedrock, stone brick and wool. I guess it could be carpet with glowstone underneath, that might be of some use.
As for the other resources, you can't make stone tools or a furnace with stone brick, and except maybe for getting a whole bunch of wool for villager trades, I can't see how any resources in the spawning room would be of much help on this map.
By the time you have enough resources to platform over and pillar up, you might as well just use those blocks to build out your island.
