posted a message on Spawning horses on old chunks - anyone have the 'official' answer?
drto: that's actually not a bad idea.

so, there DOES appear to be hope for a horse in an old chunk.

If it IS possible, it must be an extremely low spawn rate.... ive been looking pretty constantly since go-live and not a horse to be found...

survivor: that's the way I had thought it would work. I think im spinning my wheels hoping some horses will spawn in my old areas.

think its time to chuck over a year of work and start over.....

    phycozz:

thanks! r u sure? there were plenty of posts of people saying otherwise this week.

I'm inclined to believe you, but with so many people saying so many different things, it hard to know what to think

Yeah, I know it has been discussed in a few threads here, but there seems to be general disagreement on whether it IS or IS NOT possible to get horses to spawn on old chunks.

I have a HUGE plains biome on my server. I've yet to see one horse. As others have suggested, I have run around the biome and killed anything that walks there, in the hopes that a horse will then spawn. So far, nothing.

So, does anyone know FOR SURE if you can spawn a horse on an old chunk?

On my server, we have now explored so far in every direction that if it is NOT possible, then getting a horse is near impossible, and as much as it would suck to start over, that's what I may end up doing.

    So, can anyone help?

    thanks in advance guys....

posted a message on finding naturally spawned horses on existing survival map?
Guys, do we know DEFINITLY if horses can spawn on old chunks?

Me and a buddy spent an hour last night on my server looking for horses to no avail. I'm debating starting a new world if I have no shot at a horse, but i'd like to be sure before I pulled the trigger.

Trigger! See what I did there? :)

    thanks in advance guys

wow, magus, i didnt know any of that either. Again, thanks for the info.

I'm fine with breeding shut down for a few minutes if thats the worst of it.

I just shoved my first villager who was offering me an iron shovel for 4 emeralds into his fiery grave :) 3 golems right next to me and they didnt bat an eyelash. so far so good :)

Whenever a village is loaded into memory, your reputation resets to zero. So how you behaved yesterday might not affect how the villagers treat you today. (Unless you hung around nearby the whole time. But like you said, a trip to the nether or a long walk should make them "forget.")

This chart displays what actions affect your reputation, and by how much:

Reputation starts at 0 and ranges anywhere from +10 to -30. If your reputation falls below -15 in a village, that village's golem(s) will be hostile towards you without further provocation.

thanks for the answers guys, and thanks especially IronMagus for providing this info

so, if im understanding you right, if i killed 20 villagers, but then logged out and logged back in later my rep would be back to 0?

in the end, im just gonna push the ones that have crappy deals into some lava to avoid the rep hit, but this other info is good to know.

i was just afraid of screwing over my future business dealings in my newly made village :)

I don't remember if it's in the game yet or not, but if you kill them yourself it will reduce your popularity and the iron golems for that village will attack you.

If you're worried about it, just build a little killing room and use something like fire, drowning, crushing, falling, etc. to kill the extra ones so you're not hitting them yourself.
As long as you have two you can always get more. You can also get zombie villagers from zombie spawners and cure them into normal villagers if you need to, or transport them from somewhere else with a minecart.

    skel,

im not sure what you mean... would the golems just attack me until they kill me, or would i be 'kill on site' from now one every time i went to my village?

if its the first one, no big deal... but yeah, i could see option 2 being a real problem :)

In any event, i like your idea about the killing room... im gonna make a small passageway off to the side with a lava bottom... that'll teach those guys to keep offering me 2 emeralds for a diamond! :)

I was able to get 2 villagers into a walled off area, and ive bred them so now i have about 100.

The problem is, many of them offer pretty crappy deals, and i'd like to kill them off to make room for more useful villagers.

Is there any downside to killing them? I just dont want them all refusing to sell to me or something, so i figured i'd ask first before i like the sword start flying...

    thanks in advance!

posted a message on Looking for a Standard Survival Server
    hi guys,

my friends and i are looking for a server that plays like standard survival, i.e. no insta-spawning of items.

we want to play together, just like we play in standard survival.

the problem is, ever darn server we try has people spawning materials... thats not for us.

Anyone out there have a reliable, lag-free survival server that my friends and i can help carve a piece of our world and share with you all?

posted a message on Snow biome changes wrecked my world.
i came here and registered so i could rant about this, but i see you beat me to it so i'll just add my 2 cents...

i couldnt agree with the OP more... i have spent countless hours working on my world, which before the 1.1 patch WAS IN A DESERT! Now, it no longer rains, but snows.

my world is now covered in snow. My water that i used for farming has iced over, along with all the rivers in my area, and basically screwed me over.

if i had wanted to build my home in the snow, i would have. I agree that they shouldnt have drastically changed biomes like this.

I'm just royally ticked off that they did this.. im glad others feel the same
