I plugged in that seed, but don't see those coordinates showing up...

That is odd, they are definitely listed in mine. Here is a screenshot from mine, maybe you could compare it to what you got and see if it's different.

Skidoodle, there is a village listed in the locations on my current seed that is not in the map.
    Seed: -1009040
    Coords: 688, 240
    Minecraft: 1.9 Pre 4
    MSVF: 1.4 jar

I did check another location, and it was there (1376, 560). I think that above location might not have generated because the river? Just some speculation on my part.

Same seed, no village spawn, but again, this is right next to a river, so this makes me much more sure about my river assumption.
    Coords: 2768, 2096

I think he's asking for a button to automaticaly generate random seed, so we can quickly check map until we find an interesting one.

Not a random button, a "Next" and "Back" button which would increment/decrement the seed number by one. That's basically as good as a "Random" button, but will let users catalogue seeds. As an above poster said, the ability to have a button to save the map image as a file, combined with a next/back button, would let somebody be able to catalogue seed maps. Maybe even make a searchable website. Somebody who is code savvy could make a database to not only display an entered map seed, but could have it make suggestions for a seed based on what percentage each biome is. For instance, only list seeds that have less than 20% water, or less than 10% snow, or the highest % of plains. That would be epic.

posted a message on What do you do to Villages when you find them?
It depends on how the village spawned. Sometimes in grassland they will spawn with a ravine in the middle of them. Those I just leave alone, they're not worth the effort. And seeing the building base extend all the way to the bottom of the ravine is just ugly.

If they spawn in a relatively flat area, and I like the map enough, I will fence off the town to keep the NPCs from wandering away (just in case there is any sort of functionality added to them, you never know). Then I'll pretty it up just a bit, usually by removing any wheat fields inside the fenced area (damn NPCs just trample them anyhow), flattening it out, and building a small home for myself there (bigger than any of their puny buildings, I have to have the best digs in town, obviously!). It usually has to be grasslands for me to do that, as I'm not too fond of desert biomes, and AFAIK, they only spawn in grasslands and desert.

Ice Ice Baby also works :biggrin.gif:

Im looking for a snowy biome with a huge lake. I want to build my base in the dead center of said frozen lake.

EDIT: Yeti doesnt work for me. No snow in sight.....

    Try this seed: -1009050
Huge snowy biome, huge lake in it (so big the center is not ice, but water..), but there is a great spot at around -936, 1984 that is ice, between two points in the landmass. Pictures included because I'm such a swell guy :tongue.gif:

    EDIT

Even better, here is your frozen lake. Oddly enough, with a small above-ground lava pool next to it. *shrugs*
    Seed: -1009056
    Coords: 570, -1520

Yaay this works great a bit off some times but works. but could u make it find mooshroom biomes to? that could be awesome.

It already does. They show up a pinkish color. I'll edit this post with a picture in a minute showing you once I generate a map with one. Keep in mind they are probably the rarest biome, and usually spawn far out in the middle of oceans, but this is not always true. I've used this program so much to map seeds that I can tell you for sure that they do NOT need to spawn by themselves in the water. I've had some on the coast of large landmasses bordered by three other biomes. I'll post pictures of both, but it might take a bit to find one of those.

Okay, images for both. If anybody wanted to know, the seed for the second one is -1009011.

    ....

Edit: figured out the only image hosts allowed are imgur, cubeupload, and photobucket :/

Use this tool (get the java version). Watch the video and you will see why it's so darn helpful =]

I could live with something like this. But don't expect it right away. My concern right now is single seeds, and then I'll move onto multiple seeds.

I'm okay with 'eventually', hahaha =]

This is simply a must have tool for me, thank you so much! I am so picky about my maps, I DESPISE large snow biomes, so now I can just increment the seed number or type some in randomly until I find some I like. I also like having the strongholds NOT be in the middle of water. Being able to find out things like this instantly is a godsend.

Suggestion: Whenever I type a number OVER 3000 in the "with a range of" field, it defaults it back down to 3000. Is that intentional because of some coding aspect or a bug? I would really like to be able to make it a tad larger (5000 maybe?). I know I can do it again with a different origin point and stitch the pictures together, but that is a darn lot of work if you're doing it as many times as I do it. =[

Also: I'm running Win 7 Pro x64, and I couldn't get the .exe to do anything. Like a poster a bit above me, the .exe would run fine, but do nothing once a seed was entered and Find! was clicked. The java version works for me, BUT once I put one seed in and click Find!, I have to close and restart the program to search a new one. After completing one search, entering a new seed, and clicking Find!, it clears the Output box and does nothing. Restarting the program and clicking Find! again will work, but I have to restart the program A LOT.

    !!!!!!!!!!

OHMYGOD, I know what this program needs! I was just thinking of Sim City on the SNES, and how it has all those pre-generated maps, and you could click through them.... you totally need a "Next" and "Back" button on the Show Map window, so you can easily cycle through seeds until you find one you like. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, take a look at the picture:

posted a message on [HELP] Don't remember the name, looking for specific tool...
EDIT: Found it on the wiki finally, it's called "Minecraft Land Generator".

    If I remember correctly, there was an options file where you told it how far out you wanted it to map, and then you ran the program and it would show it's progress in a command prompt window as it kept spawning your character and incrementally changing the spawn point so it would fill out your map. Anybody know what this is? (and if it's still working with the prereleases?}

posted a message on Haven't seen a single sheep in 1.9 Pre 3 Hardcore yet.
I've played about a week and a half in-game days so far, and not one sheep. I don't know if it just has to do with the biomes (they seem to spawn more often in mountain type biomes, and those are a bit lacking in my map) or it is some conspiracy to prevent you from making a bed too easily in hardcore?

You replaced the the minecraft.jar in the .minecraft/bin folder right? If you placed the 1.9 jar then it should be working....

You can also try to download it from here : http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/257-19-pre-release-3-is-ready-to-test/

Ahh, I had a minecraft.jar in the main folder.... and that is the one I replaced. I did not replace the one in the /bin folder. I replaced the one in the /bin folder, and that did the trick. Thank you!

I downloaded the pre-release from Jeb's tweet, replaced the minecraft.jar file, but when I run minecraft.exe it still reports the version as 1.8.1, and none of the new features are showing up in game either. What am I doing wrong?
