posted a message on Some Neat Ideas for Items
I'm wondering how Notch will handle a Christmas theme myself. Wreaths are a great idea, I don't know about Christmas Trees. With him already trying to dodge the "Hell" name for the Nether, and suggesting he doesn't want to put any real world mythology in game I don't see him doing Christmas Trees.

Pumpkins were pretty safe to implement, so something neutral is what I'm expecting. Lights, wreath, candles, etc

I really like your football idea. It makes me want a baseball that works like the Ghast fireballs, someone can click to throw it and someone else can try and bat it with their sword.

posted a message on Fleeing Creatures for Hunting: Inspiration from LBP
One of my favorite AI options in Little Big Planet was the ability to set a creature to run from a player at a certain distance.

This could be absolutely great in Minecraft! Imagine a deer that is set to be always so far out of reach(unless cornered of course) that you need to shoot it with arrows just to kill it. It would just be the reverse of the monsters we have now, they stay peaceful until you come up on them, and instead of triggering a "run after the player and eat him" kind of script, it triggers a "always stay 10 spaces away from him" script.

We could have entire herds of animals spawn and just do like a grass eating animation, then when you get within 8 blocks of them, they trigger a "run away until despawn" AI that forces you to chase them down or give up if you just aren't good with arrows.

With Minecraft's already included ability for the player to hide from monsters, it would enable the use of blinds or stands in trees so that the player can sneak up or get closer than normal to try and kill the creature.

I think its definitely worth a shot.

    Add me on for leaves.

I have to do strange things like hollow out a pit, plant a tree, wait for it to grow, then sculpt it and bury the tree if I want something as simple as a "bush" in my yard. Then, if I don't want my world to look like some kind of weird Salvador Dali painting, I have to carry around flint and steel to clear leaves. THEN it seems random how many spaces fire can jump, so there's always a risk of just burning down a huge forest.

    I hate leaves.

posted a message on the first time playing?
I pretty much ignored any mention of Minecraft on a few game sites I frequent, which wasn't hard because it wasn't in all media like it is now.

Then Penny Arcade ran its comics. I did not understand any of what they were talking about in the comics, but if it was good enough to devote a mini-arch of comics to, I figured I'd see what all the fuss was about.

My first map was snowy... and my Laptop begged me to reconsider. In the end the Laptop is the boss.

My 2nd map is so full of naturally hollow terrain that I call it Hollow World, and its what I'm currently still anchored in, doing all my youtube and my minecraft blog in it.

I actually made one save to be played almost like this. I played on Normal though..
I called it "Adventure save". When I entered to this new world I randomly chose a route where I started to roam. I collected only what was needed in terms of survival. And when day turned to night I made a safe camp. When morning came and it was safe again I disassembled my camp and continued my adventure. Only catch was that when I died I didn't continue it. I made a map with cartograph and then I deleted the save. It was fun and I suggest trying out!

I've seen a few people talk about doing this, and I really like the idea. When I am able to, this would be my plan for a Youtube "Let's Play", mainly because it would eventually end before it got stale. Go out with a bang I say.

I just finished watching someone's "let's play" video for the first time and was like, "Yeah, I can do this!"

I spent my first day looking vainly for coal when I realized I didn't know what coal looked like. As the sun was setting, I started freaking out and built myself a quick, shitty shelter made from dirt (again, NO TORCHES). I spent the night shivering and freaked out, hearing all sorts of monsters gathered outside. It was pitch black and I couldn't see anything and I kept getting hit by arrows from skeletons.

That's like the Minecraft hand shake. When two Minecraft players meet in real life, they exchange their "first night" stories, and no one around them understands. Its like when early EQ players talk of being stuck in Kithicore for a full night. Its a shared experience that others just do not understand.

posted a message on What was your first thought seeing your first creeper??
I did not see my first creeper.

I was exploring a mountain side when apparently there was one stuck just below the surface. It blew out the side of the mountain and nearly blew me off a cliff that was several 100 feet high. I quickly realized that the dangerous part was not that I had almost fallen off the mountain, but that a creeper could destroy everything I had worked to build. It put the fear of "wasted hours" in me lol. The hours it takes to collect all the fancier materials and the hours it takes to plan and build specific structures. Creepers don't just hit you inside the game, but they steal life time away from you in real life as well!

Or... well. I might be a little overly dramatic on that last part.

Troll forum or not, it's still not funny, and the idiots who created that forum are stupid fags who are incapable of respecting other peoples religions.

No one else find this post rather... hypocritical?

I mean, right in the response he is talking about people not respecting a group of people... so he calls them Fags. Heh.

posted a message on Should armor take *minor* fall damage?
I as very off put at finding out this was the case. I stopped wearing armor unless I knew I was going to get into some bad stuff. I understand though that this has been the case for longer than I have been playing, so I'm not going to say it has to be changed... but I would rejoice in the change.

They mean, they want to change it so that the vertical limit is switched with the horizontal limit. Effectively making the up and down infinite(8x the earth, what not) and making the left and right be finite.

At the beginning of the video he says who it is made by and that he was given permission to do a tour of it. The server isn't public, so only guests have the info for it.

posted a message on Do you name your terrain?
Naming things is absolutely essential for my sense of direction. I learned it from my old days in EQ before anyone had maps or /loc coordinates. The first thing I did was explore and name things "The Hole" "Rose Point" "Triple Valley". I swear almost all the mountains near my spawnpoint are hollow, so I generally think of my main map as "Hollow World". I also have Stereo Falls(waterfalls on the left and the right of a valley) and The Lake of the Dead.

I like this idea, what's the restrictions on paintings? Do we have to keep them the same sizes as the default paintings?
