Jan 14, 2011The "spawning in the dark" thing was obviously broken, so when Notch took that out all the complainers saw that as a victory. They saw it as 'if we complain enough, Notch will change it" Now that they don't like the new spider changes, they think they can complain about it enough to get it changed back to how it was.Posted in: Discussion
Only, the spiders aren't broken. If the sandstone thing was intentional, then maybe they're sorta broken, but not nearly as bad as how the dark spawning thing was waaaaaay broken.

I got too comfortable with how things were. Nothing was challenging anymore. Everyone had built their defenses for specific creatures, and I only got hurt if I was being largely stupid. I even actively seek out creepers because I want that TNT for my projects.
If you can't add a new mob to bring back the fear, then at least you can tweak existing ones. Spiders climbing walls is totally something that makes sense. They already have the drawback of being too wide to fit through doors, this at least gives them something on zombies.
We need a shake up every now and again. We get too complacent too easily.
Jan 14, 2011For the life of me, I've never had Minecraft save my Items key to the "E" key. I can switch it. I can even go into the Minecraft folder and change it there, but it never ever saves it.Posted in: Discussion
Most people play this game with mouse and keyboard, and I assume the majority is right handed. Why have the items key bound all the way over on the "I" key because items starts with an "I" ? Its ridiculous not to have it on a more left hand position friendly key. How about "E" for equipment? I don't really care which, just as long as its not past "T" "G" or "V".
If anyone's found out a way to change this and have it save 100% of the time, please please post it here.
Nov 30, 2010After a short Thanksgiving break, I'm back on my text and picture blog. I seem to get a constant flow of traffic from this post, so I figured I'd post that I'm back with a new post and should be back on schedule.Posted in: Let's Play (and Live Stream)
Nov 19, 2010I want to try and raise awareness of this particular art form.Posted in: Discussion
Currently there are only a handful of us on the "Let's Play" list over in the SSP section of the forum. If you are a text and picture Minecraft blogger, I encourage you to get on that list. It is not really advertised as a T & P(text and picture) friendly list, but it is. That way we can better build a community for our chosen medium.
What are you talking about?
The Text and Picture blogs are a variation of the very popular(and very numerous) "Let's Play" videos from youtube. I feel it is a worthwhile variation that presents its own challenges and merits. Many videos include a lot of the grunt work in Minecraft, so the commentators often must talk about other things going on. The written blog is more condensed and focuses on the main points of the play sessions.
There are many other possibilities as well. You don't have to do a "tutorial" as many of the videos have stuck to. You could do a role-play, first person, fictionalized account of your character. You could even pre-construct a castle to explore and write as if you came across this magical castle with deep dungeons, and the struggle of exploring it. The possibilities are great and numerous.
Also, you could have increased traffic from people that can not access youtube during the day time, so perhaps they are looking for something to read on a lunch break, or maybe the professor is talking about something you already know much about. T & P Blogs are a great alternative in those situations.
I personally do not only like creating these blogs, but I love reading them as well. One problem I had was which program to use to capture screens. It took me a while to find one that doesn't capture your desktop in the pics. Having a community would help people make choices and expose them to the way others do their blogs. Eventually people would find their voice and have individualized their blogs to be unique in its features.
No medium survives without its creators associating with each other. The more people we have, the more exposed we would be, and the more joy we'd get from everyone sharing and reading our blogs.
Do we have any interest? Are any of you Bloggers swimming around without letting us know?
Nov 19, 2010That's awesome, I like it better than the first.Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
As for the people that want Creepers, I think Zombies are perfect. This trailer isn't made for us, we're already playing, most of us have bought the game. Zombies are a big craze right now, and if you want to bring in new players that have never heard of the game, having a zombie in the trailer is brilliant.
Nov 19, 2010The sense of danger and risk of loss are one of the great things about Minecraft. That's why Creepers are so feared once players realize what they can do. This fear spurs players to think outside the box, and create homes with defense measures, not just homes that look nice.Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
Don't go the cheat route. Walk it off, lick your wounds and keep going. By the 5th time you lose everything you're holding, it will be but a small inconvenient speed bump.
Learn from your mistakes and don't take the easy way out.

That's enough to make someone paranoid about clearing leaves for sure.
Nov 17, 2010I think the likelihood of Clay increased with the introduction of the Biomes.Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
I still believe it was some kind of bug that made it rare if you did not get any in your first generated chunk. The worlds I've experimented with a few times to get a look at biomes has had lots and lots of clay in the deserts that are located near water.
Nov 17, 2010Those leaves physically make my eyes hurt. Like those "No Fear" shirts that purposefully make your eyes strain and say things like "You can't catch what you can't see". That would be something I'd really consider changing...Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
