posted a message on Minecraft 1.4.4 / 1.4.5 is bugged with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
As the title states, Minecraft 1.4.4 / 1.4.5 has problems when running on Lion 10.7.4, namely, it freezes the entire system (not just the application) from anywhere between 20 seconds to a few minutes at a time.

At first, I thought it was to do with the fact that I was running an offline server. However, I also played a single player world and the same problem occurred (not for anywhere near as long though). My brother plays on Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and he experiences no problems, and his computer's specs are a lot poorer than mine. His is a bit slow, but it is always like that, it never hangs the whole system.

This is a really frustrating bug, and it seems to be exclusive to Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4

Anyone else had the same problem?

Yes, I am running Lion 10.7.4 as well :)

But I played single player and it still seems to freeze (not for anywhere near as long, but seriously). It freezes my entire computer which really bugs me... not just the application.

I hope someone gets around to fixing this.

posted a message on Minecraft 1.4.4 server freezing my computer (Mac OS X)
So I run an offline server on my computer to play with my siblings...and it has recently (since 1.4.4) started freezing for up to 3 minutes at a time, as in freezing my entire computer, not just the minecraft application.

I don't know why. I used to play on a crappy old Macbook, and the server lagged, sure, but it never froze like this. Now I get a new computer (double RAM) and since 1.4.4 it just freezes randomly. It is REALLY annoying, because I can't play with my siblings, I can only host the server and sort of moderate (from the Terminal...which is really boring. At least moderating in game is interesting).

Anyone had this same problem? Or better yet, suggestions to fix it? Thanks.

I am using 1GB of RAM to host the server, and my computer has 4GB RAM total. There are no other applications open except for Terminal and Minecraft (Terminal to run the server).

You and I must have different definitions of 'equality'.

I'm aware that the edit was made as a joke, but when people tell me my language isn't important; well, it's a whole other story.

Alright...your definition of equality is what then?

Ok I am glad that part was cleared up. Although I don't recall seeing anyone say Canadian English was not important...anyhow it doesn't matter.

    Oh. My. God.

Here's the definition of a dialect: "A particular form of a language that is peculiar to a specific region or social group." Guess what: Canada is a region.

It's not pointless. Here I am, and others are, saying that we would like our dialect to be represented equally to other dialects. It's not hurting you or anyone else for us to have this.

It's not even wasting anyone's time, since the translation is all on a volunteer basis. Volunteers who, like us, would like to see Canadian English in the game.

It is still almost no different to any other kind of English. It is entirely mutually intelligible. Also I don't understand how it is "not being represented equally". It is being represented as equally as any other language, which is nice because in my opinion, other LANGUAGES should be a higher priority than a subset of English.

It DOES however, bother me that people can't look at this as a joke, or an attempt by some of the Minecraft fanbase to make the language in this game more interesting.

Canada also uses these spellings. "Armour" instead of "Armor", etc.

Here's an informative link about the differences between UK, USA, and Canadian English.

Why does everyone insist that US English should be the norm, anyway? The game wasn't even made in the US.

Oh! Or how about we go to good ol' Wikipedia! (Skookum!)

By reading that Wikipedia page, I learned that a lot of things I hear every day are unique to my dialect. Neat.

For the record...Canadian English is not a dialect of English. It is almost exactly the same as US English, or any other kind of English, except for a few barely noticeable differences. So obviously, these differences are exaggerated, like adding "eh?" to the end of phrases in Canadian English, and if they wanted to have some fun with the upcoming addition of Australian English, they could add "mate" to the end of everything. Otherwise, having Canadian English, or any other kind of English, would be pointless.

Maybe there could be bloody Bone Bundles like Mossy Cobblestone?

That is also a good idea...maybe craftable with red dye? Or heaven forbid, blood, if it was added...

I decided to take this idea and make a little sprite art for it.

    Bundle of Bones

    Tile Block

*Naturally occurring in Skeleton dungeons and rarely in Strongholds.
*When broken yields 0 to 4 Bones.
*When walked upon by player(s) or mobs, walking sound is replaced with Skeleton walking sound.

    Recipe:

@OP, feel free to add this to the original post. Just make sure I'm credited for the art and any info you pull from my post.

Yay! Glad someone else is as into this idea as I am...

Ok, I will add the last two of your ideas to the OP (with credit). The first one was part of my original idea so I am not going to credit that as belonging to you :tongue.gif:

posted a message on Placeable Bone Block
I think Minecraft needs a placeable bone block. It would be transparent, much like grass and dead shrubs. And I really think it would be a nice addition to the game.

    Reasons:

It would be a great addition to scenery, for example, I created some abandoned ruins, overgrown, half built towers. Underground, there is a network of tunnels where (as my story goes) the survivors of a creeper war hid. All that is needed is some bones to show that this is where they made their final stand. All I have to create this effect are creepy signs. So the bones would be an excellent addition to abandoned areas like this.

    Ideas:

    - Like grass, it should randomly come in a few forms, like a skull, pile of bones, one large bone, etc.

    - Perhaps villages could have naturally spawned graveyards, with bones in the crypts

    - Could also be found in deserts, or on the floors of dungeons and strongholds

    - Either picked up, or crafted with bones (the item)

    - Block drops 0-4 bones upon being broken (credit: DeathJoker00)

    - When walked on, skeleton walking sound is used (credit: DeathJoker00)

    - Bloody bone block (credit: _Woodruff)

posted a message on Minecraft arena mod?
Does anyone know if there is a mod that allows you to place fences, at a distance that you can choose, from a certain point? For example, I choose a point, decide on a 200 block radius, and the fences are placed at 200 blocks from the center point, creating a circular arena? Or even a square one? Does anyone know if there is a mod like this?
