In retrospect I think you're right. Limiting the selection is better. I'll update the OP. :)

The mystery box seems too much like a lucky block. How about instead of giving you random items, it gives you some select items, some of which are really crappy ,others which are decent, but not Godlike.

Being a console player I've never seen a "lucky block". Don't they spew a bunch of stuff? There'd be no spewing here. Usually one item, occasionally two or three. I am not opposed to limiting the selection of possible items though. How about this?

    1> Gold Nuggets

2> Carrots (In keeping with the Jester/Pig relationship)

    3> Golden Carrot (Rare)

    4> Carrot on a stick

    5> A Saddle

6> Nametag (sometimes enchanted, and with one of several preselected funny names on it, like "Jack Hammer")

7> Diamond pickaxe (sometimes with random enchantment - Very rare)

    8> Bottle'O Enchanting

    9> Bucket of Milk

10> Ore (any type, but 1 in 10,000 for diamond ore)

Items like the pickaxe and nametag are always dropped as a single item.

posted a message on The Jester - New Villager + Mystery Box

The Mystery Box is a little out there, but granted it's not unfitting for such a villager. This new item and villager sound interesting, but I don't know if it's something I'd support.

What would make you support it? I mean, I did include that some of the pranks and gags are updated with each new update. So there'd always be something new by the time something got old.

I am considering a behavior mechanic for the Jester at night time... Tell me what you think.

Luring Mobs: At night time the Jester doesn't go indoors like other villagers. Instead, he wanders about. If he encounters a mob, he tries to maintain a minimum safe distance while making his way toward the nearest iron golem (if there is one). If there is no iron golem in range, he just reverts to normal nocturnal villager behavior.

EDIT: The villager is rather rugged and doesn't take fall damage. This is to facilitate slapstick gags, like pestering the iron golem and getting knocked high up into the air.

posted a message on changes to potion arrow obtaining. please?

As long as it can't be used with infinity (which potion arrows apparently can't) I see no real problem with this.

posted a message on The Jester - New Villager + Mystery Box

An extremely rare occurrence is that a villager may spawn as a Jester. The Jester is prone to wacky behavior, like pig riding, and is loaded with various pranks, such as occasionally spawning a cow in lieu of steak during a trade. Some of the trades offered by this fellow are just silly, and some are too good to be true (like 64 emeralds for one carrot) but if you go for one of those, you'll find it that it is indeed too good to be true, as the Jester will laugh at you and run away with your carrot. It's important to note that this will never happen when trading an item of value (unless you consider a single carrot or block of dirt of particular value). Some of the Jesters little gags and built in Easter eggs change with each game update so his gags never get stale. While some may find a villager riding haphazardly around on a pig while laughing to be more annoying than humorous, the Jester himself is quite rare and the pig riding isn't an every day occurrence. Also, the other villagers won't hold it against you if you decide to make the Jester... disappear? :)

Trading with the Jester is the only way to acquire a new item called "The Mystery Box". This item can, when broken, drop one to three items from a selection listed below. The Mystery box may drop 1-3 Mystery boxes (like winning a free ticket on the lotto). Most often the box will yield blocks of little value, since there are more of those in the game. And no, no dragon eggs or end completion rewards. The problem with getting the mystery box is that it is a top tier Jester trade item. That's right, if you want to get them, you have to do some of the goofy trades. If you do get ripped off of non-valuable goods during these trades, they still count in your favor.

    11> More Mystery Boxes

Items like the pickaxe and nametag are always dropped as a single item.

The mystery box is also valuable if left unbroken. During the night it becomes as strong as bedrock, and during the day it is just a bit weaker than obsidian. It is also (arguably) a very decorative block with ornate patterns of yellow and purple on its sides. The Mystery Box emits a small amount of light. If no Jester exists in your world then breaking a Mystery Box will cause one to be spawned.

Yes, the Jester was brought up under a different name as part of another thread which has gone awry and which has morphed into a broad discussion thread (and will hopefully be moved). Thus leaving this as the only thread dedicated to this idea. I have also refined the idea with the addition of a new item and hopefully by doing so, given the Jester a useful purpose other than adding some more lulz to Minecraft.

Yes, an increased drop rate for feathers, and for flint, would be a better solution.

Okay, we're back to Herobrine! I'm so excited you guys chose to completely ignore the strikethrough in the OP and the later attempts to refine the focus of this discussion. I guess it's my own fault for being too general in the beginning. Oh well, live and learn. So, back to Herobrine! Maybe Herobrine can hatch from a chicken egg! It's your thread now. Talk about whatever you want. :)

... My only remaining suggestion is that this thread be moved to the "Discussion" forum.

posted a message on Blocks on Minecarts

You say vertically, yet this would make most mobile constructions impossible. Maybe a redstone torch tower or something. With a limit of 12 blocks (such as slime blocks) it may be workable but at the speed carts move, we're still talking about a lot of block repositioning over a very short period of time. It is also not just the conversion of blocks into entities that would cause lag, the deletion and replacement of the blocks themselves would lag things out because of how fast the cart can move. Also consider that the cart would have to probably move in lurches so you wouldn't encounter the problem of trying to represent inbetween block positions. If I built a bunch of even 12 block things on minecarts and sent them on their way, how many block deletions and replacements would I be performing per game tick? If you are trying to smooth out the motion then you are also incorporating temporary entities as well. Chug chug. Maybe one or two of these cart creations wouldn't lag too bad, but players often don't settle for one or two of anything.

posted a message on Thoughts on Console Command Blocks

If proper limits are placed on the command block command parameters, it will not be necessary to increase limits on other things in the game like villagers, etc. The peeps at 4J have a good idea I am sure on the limitations of the XBOX 360 and on the other consoles and can set parameter ranges and command options within those limits. I do think that new limits placed would only need to be on new features introduced. This goes for not only command blocks and their functions, but other new objects and mechanics introduced to the game.

    Quote from Cerroz»

Always refine an idea first, then post after. Never the other way around. A "prankster mob" - to be direct - just seems very childish; not really something I'd want in vanilla... And the sneak/scaring thing may not be the best idea either, as Minecraft isn't a jump scare horror game, despite the fact that some mobs can be creepy.Again, this stuff might be amusing at first, but everyone's gonna get used to it and it'll get old.

Who says the game needs a source of laughter?

How long would that be funny for?

A halloween easter-egg wouldn't be a bad idea, but Herobrine is something that got old in 2011 and Mojang confirmed he will never be added.

... Sigh, I'll have to go back and correct that in the OP. I've changed it from being Herobrine to just being a creeper.

posted a message on Wood Wheel and Tandem Block mechanic

The idea of using this to create carts for animals or mobs involves creating a small pen on top of a small slime block platform built on the wheels. The wheels move the slime block creation slowly so as not to bog down the system. Based on my own piston experiments fences will push mobs or players when moved. Again, any objections to the movement qualities proposed are invalidated by the fact that slime block crawlers are already a possibility and would be more processor intensive than the wheel. People already build redstone seige weapons, but they are not mobile. This just offers a way to drag around small redstone creations or mob pens. I think probably these wheels would have to move by "lurching" one block when pushed or pulled, and cooling down for a fraction of a second before being able to be lurched again. This way there's no inbetween block locations to be represented, it's like they are pushed by a piston. With each lurch the wheels could squeek as you'd expect big primative wood wheels to do.

EDIT: It occurs to me that, given the 12 block limit, the only way the cart could be done is to leave out the corner slime blocks and fence posts, and it'd only have a 1 block passenger space. Still, that's okay.

posted a message on More humor in Minecraft

Okay, well I am refining this thread to be about the Insane Villager and Prankster Mob. The latter is not well fleshed out I admit, apart from pranking villagers by sneaking up and scaring them. I'm sure much more could be added. In defense of the insane villager, to those who would not find this oddball funny, he would be relatively harmless and would not occur often enough to become annoying or troublesome. But I can't help think he'd be a source of much laughter for many players. I know if I visited my village and out of the blue saw in the background a villager laughing and riding a pig chaotically I'd laugh myself silly. I'd also get a chuckle out of doing a deal for steak and having a cow spontaneously appear in front of me.

... I think the mob reflection gag would be good for Halloween, but yeah, perhaps doesn't belong in this thread. :)

posted a message on The best and the worst suggestions

For those who follow the suggestions forum, what do you feel are some of the best and worst suggestions to have come along in the past while (say within past few pages)? Why do you think so?

... Are there any ideas you think are underrated/overrated/lost in the shuffle?

I'd like to see the game improve and evolve and I feel there are many ideas (not just my own) that the community have offered that would go a long way toward accomplishing that. I realize I have a personal bias being a frequent contributor to the suggestion board so I'm curious to get a more unbiased view of how the community views the suggestions that are out there and if some may need more attention than they are getting. I would like to encourage people who aren't already to get involved with the suggestion forum and offer their opinions to those trying to help make the game better. :)
