No, I must say I have not experienced such a problem. I highly suspect you are trolling, but if not, do you have any mods that could possibly cause this? Oh and the aether mod hasn't been updated as far as I know...

LAN = Local Area Network, so it pretty much means anyone in your house can play, so you don't need to portforward because they are connected directly to your network. Other people outside can't join.
Uh, something else? My life does not revolve around Minecraft, sure it's too bad when the servers are down while I was planning to play, but who cares? There's tons more to do. Just go outside or something.
This is my most recent of homes. I normally just add on new rooms as desired, so that i can constantly keep expanding without losing the nice looks of the thing.

Did you reuse a world name for that world? Sometimes the world folder doesn't get deleted completely and it mixes with another when you make a new world with the same name.

No I was actually thinking this after I made it, but this was definitely a name I had never used before.
Same has happened to me but I was in survival and it was a normal world where random chunks were blank including by a stronghold
Did they remain blank even after you exited/reloaded and stuff? Because my world here is still messed up... I didn't delete it in case I do decide to put up a download or something.
you said you set it to a superflat world. maybe minecraft glitched and what you saw was what would have generated if it wasnt set to superflat. its probably just a problem with 1.3.1 that they have to fix.
