Yes you can & yes, put them into the mcpatcher folder structure that mimics the minecraft folder for mobs, Variant names must start at the number 2. For example: creeper2.png would be the first in the mcpatcher folder (if you have creeper1.png, that one will not work).
This puts me at ease. I thought there'd be a ton of changes by now, other than just new blocks. Now I can at least get started on the basics & move on from there. Thank you! I'm sure I'll have questions soon enough
I haven't played Minecraft in years. In the 1.7.10 days I created a texture pack which is, of course, woefully out of date. Are there any handy guides to either creating a pack from scratch or updating from that era? Every Google search results in tons of really old info. Searches of this forum haven't come up with anything overly useful either (or I didn't read enough threads to find the gem of info). All my old bookmarked tutorials haven't been updated since 1.8 so I have no idea where to start. Any suggestions appreciated!
I'm working on mod updates right now. I have HarvestCraft 1.7.10h completed, it will be uploaded later today (part of the "Pam's Mods add-on pack). I'm also working on the updates for Witchery 24.1, The Erebus, AbyssalCraft, Bibliocraft, Garden Stuff, etc. Bibliocraft & Garden Stuff, along with other minor mods, will be included in the next release of Fibercraft. The others are all part of add-on packs so I'll upload those as finish enough to justify an update.
I was reading that Forge & MCPatcher aren't behaving well together atm. Did I read that right? It's almost 5am and I've been up all night so sorry if I get long-winded, confusing or am just plain stupid at this point.....
I'm using Minecraft 1.7.10. Two of my mods required me to update to Forge 10.13.3.1373-1.7.10.
I installed the new Forge, ran the game (worked fine).
I downloaded MCPatcher 4.3.2.03 since I think that's the last version that supports 1.7.10.
I noticed that the line for Minecraft Forge line is now grayed out (it was not with the previous Forge version) but I clicked "patch" and let it install. started the game and received this error:
I want to be clear that I was NOT using MCPatcher to install Forge. I used the Forge Installer to do that BEFORE I installed MCPatcher and ran the game after the Forge install but before the MCPatcher install.

4. I UNPATCHED my game. Upon restart, it works fine.
I realize the FAQ section states:
Does this work with version x.y.z of Minecraft?
Unlike most mods, MCPatcher is designed to be version-independent. It should work across multiple versions of the game, only breaking compatibility when there is a major change. MCPatcher 4.x should work with any 1.6-or-newer release.
5. Even through it doesn't specifically address 1.7 or higher or what MCPatcher 5.x works worth, I downloaded MCPatcher 5.0.2 and tried again. I got the same error:

Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong or is the 'incompatibility' of MCPatcher & the latest Forge? I did remove the offending mods in the error log but my game still crashes. I have NEVER inserted anything directly into a .jar file. All my mods are Forge compatible mods so I just put them in the "mods" folder.
If I "Unpatch" the game, it runs fine.
On a side note, page 1 is confusing and the BitBucket page isn't all that helpful either. The download section there only lists the MCPatcher version numbers, not what version of MCPatcher corresponds with which Minecraft version. The changelog on this thread kind of covers that, but the formatting isn't working so it's confusing to read atm. This is what that section looks like to me:
While its easy enough to figure out what it should have looked like, it still could be re-formatted and include a line next to each version release that says "works with Minecraft 1.x.x and higher." Maybe that's just me though. Honestly I think almost every section could use a bit of housekeeping and instructions for anything related to Minecraft 1.6.x or earlier moved to a different spoiler. 10 minutes of cleanup would make it easier to read and thus prevent those who can read (i.e. not everyone clearly) from asking redundant questions. Sorry, I'll shut up now, I obviously need sleep
Thanks for letting me know. In light of this, I may start experimenting with test worlds to see if I can figure out if another mod or MCPatcher might be causing the issue.
You know what would be absolutely amazing? If you could disab;e individual ores in the configs. This is a great modpack utility, but if I have tinkers construct installed, I don't want or need duplicate cobalt, ardite, or aluminum. I'm not talking about dynamic ore disabling based on what's already there, I just want a config file that lists all the ores like "B:YelloriumEnabled=true". Few if any users are going to use every single ore in the mod, so being able to disable individual ores would be the best.
You can do that now. Inside the config folder is an "Oresplus" folder. Inside that you'll find a config file for every dimension the mod finds. You can turn the ore spawn off in those files.
This is one of my configs for a dimension where I don't want any spawn:
You'd be better served by asking on the Witchery forum. It sounds like you have some serious conflicts, especially since you needed to "temporarily" install several other mods to resolve another conflict. I'm sure someone on their forum would know which mod isn't playing nice with Witchery. BTW, when you remove your "temporary" mods, you may actually create some other issues with your game. Forge has gotten really good at dealing with removed items but it isn't perfect.
I use Witchery myself w/o any problems but I don't use any of the others.
EDIT: Don't use gamepedia guides! I just looked at that and your problem is that guide. It's for a really old version of Witchery. The crafting recipes have changed a LOT since then. Always stick with the mod's forum for the most up-to-date information
i am still waiting for answer to this question above... (i am not impatient) and it have been 3 days or so.
Open the combined file (brick.abyssal). Resize to whatever size need. Add your 6 .png files and arrange them over the existing pictures. Then merge (flatten) & save. Lather, rinse, repeat for the rest of them. You cannot replace the combined .png file with six separate files (although it would be nice).
I'm new to TMI so bare with me. I keep getting a crash if I install this with my other mods active (60+). It loads fine w/o my other mods. Unfortunately I can't figure out from the crash report which mod is conflicting. I started a new world and tested it w/ and w/o mods but still get the same crash. Can someone take a look at the report and let me know what's causing the crash? Thx.

Dude, page 1.

The config folder is in the same folder level as the mod folder: minecraft/config

No reason to apologize! Thanks for taking the time to respond

No offense, but could you be less specific?? There a multiple download links on page one, what exactly is the issue?

I'm new to TMI so bare with me. I keep getting a crash if I install this with my other mods active (60+). It loads fine w/o my other mods. Unfortunately I can't figure out from the crash report which mod is conflicting. I started a new world and tested it w/ and w/o mods but still get the same crash. Can someone take a look at the report and let me know what's causing the crash? Thx.
