I too also have this issue. I have force updated, copied others files. The main issue I see is I go to the option menu and the sound it turned off. When I go to turn it up the game crashes. I have tried re-installing both mine craft and java 32 and 64 bit. Anyone have any suggestions?

Alot of the grinders I've looked at no longer work in 1.7.2

surface area farming to a huge lava knife, but I can't get the water to flow further than 5 blocks on a flat surface, this guy had it going on a 50x20 area... no idea how they did it just showed end result.

another used signs to stop flow of water which works but the items in the video traveled on to the next set of water while in 172 they do not. any help for noobs would be great

I always us channels. I just finished a mob grinder in 1.7.2 and water flows 8 blocks. Now I use 2x16 channels with 2 source blocks in the middle. In my smaller 1 wide channels I will still go 8 blocks on level ground. If you drop is by one level is will flow another 8 blocks. If you take a 1 wide channel drop it at the 8th block one level then it will flow another 8 blocks for a total of 15

Hi, I'm currently running a map on a private server for myself and I've noticed the one thing I haven't tried yet is a Mob trap/killer/grinder whatever you want to call it. I've been looking online and there are several different ideas or plans when it comes to making them but I don't know very much about it.

I know I want to try to make it as compact as possible but I think I saw that I have to keep to a certain spawning area of 16 by 16 by 3 for the best results and I have to keep with a very low light level 7 or so?

I think I want to go with the multi-level sort of mob spawning area with water flowing into the sides/corners to drop the mobs as they walk around.

But when it gets to the bottom is my only choice going with lava to burn them or are there other options like drowning / cactus / and will pistons even work in some fashion?

Opinions and ideas would be appreciated. :smile.gif:

well you there are several variations on the lave knife...there are drowning traps and gravity traps. You could use pistons in gravity traps.. Funnel all the mobs to one area and then when you are ready open a hole with a piston and drop them to their deaths. You tube has a bunch to choose from. Personally I like the lava traps. You can use one lava knife for low producing traps or multiple knives for higher producing traps. The smallest size you want is 16 x 16 platform surrounded by water ways. Usually 2 wide. Not sure if 1 wide would work, everyone seems to use 2 wide waterways. From the research I have done the smallest area you need if 20x20 (16x16 platform, 2x2 waterways) Then walls. 3 high is the most efficient.
I have seen huge traps that use 8x8 areas with 2 wide channels between. This trap was staggeringly large and was worked on but many folks. I have played with the lava knives mainly, they seem to work the best.
