I noticed that a lot of Minecraft players, on creating a better item, usually throw out their used item of inferior quality into a giant garbage-item-pit... if you do not do this, this suggestion is still useful to you:
Using a Furnace, and perhaps a very good source of heat, you'd be able to "melt down" an item into 75% (or so) of its base materials/resources.
For me, I always throw out all my old wood and stone tools; and it would be handy for reclaiming items in an emergency, and to save space and whatnot. And it's green! It's recycling! :B
I hate games that make me have to eat or recharge my "thirst meter" or whatever; but at the same time, Notch needs to add a reason to leave your 3x3x3 Monster-proof cube.
Right now, there's no way to "win" the game; unless you count Surviving as winning... and in that case, just make a floating base and your set.
I think you're on the right track... I just think we need a reason to leave our fortresses.
I was watching Notch's fly-by video of Minecraft Alpha he did on YouTube a month ago (), and was (as usual) amazed at the beauty of the gameworld that he created.
But one thing was missing in my mind: reflections on the surface of bodies of water. Such as the clouds, or nearby mountains, etc. I think it would add a lot of atmosphere to an already beautiful game.
I know reflections are resource-consuming; but Notch is a genius... and should figure out a cheap way to implement it. >.>
I often turn caves into pieces of my base, and they're fun to explore (and takes some time out of mining!). It's fun to spelunk and see what treasures are buried within!
How about being able to construct a compass? I find myself wandering in huge circles in Infdev, and it would be handy for exploring new terrain on the huge, huge maps.

It's a game... ever try chopping down a tree with your fist before? :tongue.gif:

Next up would be brick, followed by the "tiled" wood. (Looks like hardwood floor. Great for houses!)

Sometimes I almost WANT players to find it and attempt to grief. >:3
