I don't get why some people have trouble grasping what you are trying to point out here. I've had a lot of trouble trying to get similar ideas across in threads that I have started. It's very simple. Survival mode needs to be greatly expanded upon in order to continue to hold the interest of some of the player base (myself included in that group).
Sure, there's nearly no limit to the fun you can have creatively in Minecraft. But just being creative for the sake of being creative, isn't really all that special. What is special, to some players, is that the survival aspects of Minecraft, gives you a practical reason to build structures, and to innovate with redstone. These aspects give you a world in which to interact with your artwork. This is what hooked me in from the start. But pretty quickly, the survival/gameplay elements wear thin and there really isn't much left to do beyond being creative, and even that loses a little bit of its magic and purpose.
Also, I'm not real big on multiplayer gaming in general. In Minecraft, I enjoy checking out other peoples creations, and showing off mine, but I don't really care for tagging along with dudes that I don't know, for any other purpose. If I do any multiplay at all, it's strictly local. Anyway, a lot more people play Minecraft in single player survival mode, than a lot of people might think. And if you are one of these people, you would know exactly what's wrong with survival mode. The thing is, the game was more fun at first, when survival seemed to matter.
If you've ran out of ideas for contraptions... you're not into redstone. Just saying. Redstone is one of the things in Minecraft that will never be "mastered" by anyone. If you think you've built all there is to build, you aren't learning enough.
Then, if someone decides to go big with redstone, they might as well forget survival ever existed. Attempting a redstone megabuild with "legit" resources is just dumb.
No, I was referring to the fact there just isn't a way to farm every item. I never claimed to be a redstone master, but I have built most of the "known" farming systems. These are not things that I come up with myself, as I do not have that much time on my hands.
Also, I am not suggesting that they should eliminate creative mode. It clearly has its place. I don't think people should be forced to play survival just to build an epic map for a server or, per your example, a mega redstone build. I would just like more out of survival, because it makes the game more interesting imo.
If you do not enjoy how Creative mode washes the game down, then don't use it. If you think Peaceful mode wussifies it, play Hard. If you want jet packs, go buy PC Minecraft, learn Java and make a jet pack mod. The MC360 version of Minecraft follows the PC version of Minecraft in development. Meaning it will never stray the course of the true vanilla Minecraft, meaning no Tekkit stuff. And to automate stuff in MC, learn Redstone. I have multiple BUD detectors for my farms in MC360, fully functioning subway, etc.
TL;DR:
Don't complain about things that you don't like if you can disable them/change it in the options.
There will be no industrial stuff or futuristic stuff. It's Minecraft.
Learn Redstone.
This isn't a complaint, it's a suggestion. I understand that it's all optional, but I'm talking about improving survival so that I might not get so frustrated with it, that I start building in creative. I have the PC version of the game, but I don't really enjoy gaming on my computer. Strictly xbox for me. I have a good grasp on redstone and I have built most of the farming systems that can be built, but that's not quite enough. I guess I'd like to see more improvement in this area.
I'm not knocking anyone for playing on creative mode, because I do myself. I'm sorry if I came off that way.
Everyone has their own way of playing the game. But creative mode certainly doesn't dilute the gameplay. It allows you to be... well... creative! The whole purpose is building whatever you want without worrying about hunger, mobs, mining, and all that other survival stuff. Some people like survival, and that's fine, more power to them. Then others, like myself, become bored with survival aspect after a couple hours and just want to build something. I just don't understand how people can become bored with this game. For months now I've only been doing one thing in Minecraft, and that's playing with redstone. That's literally all I do when I play this game and I still haven't ran out of ideas for future projects. I talk to other redstone engineers just like me who've been doing the exact same thing I'm doing for a couple years now. If one aspect of this game is that addictive, how can people become completely bored with the entire game?
I think we're actually on the same page here, for the most part. I haven't grown bored with the game really. It's all that I've been playing lately, myself. I have a lot of fun just building whatever I want in creative. I just wish that there was more to see and do in survival, and that acquiring mass amounts of materials wasn't such a hassle. But I am not ing about Minecraft per see. I'm a big supporter.
It's like taking minecraft and pushing it into an industrial area full of machines. all of which you make yourself obviously. You essetually create things with not only the ores in the game but a mass amount of extra materials in which can create very scientifical things, cush as a quarry, or a nuclear bomb. Stuff like that. I think I summed it up alright
I've never understood this argument. It can be applied to every video game ever created (except some MMOs). You will run out of stuff to do in every video game. In Minecraft's case, there is a way around it. Make up your own game inside Minecraft. Minecraft is a sandbox game. The only time you run out of things to do is when you yourself can no longer think of anything to do.
It wasn't hard. Made it much easier on the eyes, thus making it easier to read.
Thanks, I'll use that actually. I'm not use to writing in forums and I should be more considerate of the reader.
2. I think you're one of the few people that would prefer a gamemode in between creative and survival. I haven't played survival the proper way since MCXBLA's release. I've never gotten bored of only building things. Throughout the rest of the time I'll spend playing this game I doubt I'll ever use survival mode, except for the occasional PVP match one of my friends happens to be hosting. Tons of ideas come to me for creative builds, and while constructing them I tend to produce more ideas. As far as creative projects go, I'm probably set for the next several years.
I do grow bored with just building things in Minecraft and I'm sure that I'm not only one of a few who feel this way. The game was much more interesting in the beginning, before I started building these massive projects. I enjoyed building things for creative and practical purposes alike, in a world that's not so "peaceful". IMO, creative mode sort of waters the game down and peaceful just wussifies it. I understand that all of these things are simply optional and I get that. I was only trying to say that I'd like to see some improvement in survival, so that I do not feel pushed into building in creative. I love the game guys. It's all that I've played in months. Just making some suggestions. Sorry about thew wall. I did try to fix it.
Wow, another "I want Tekkit" thread. Well done on trying to disguise it in a mass of text and re-phrasing though.
Never going to happen for soooo many reasons.
Never heard of it actually, but I'd appreciate it if you'd list some of the reasons. Remember, I'm talking about the 360 version.
Thanks for the info. Why should I use paragraphs when the tab button doesn't work when writing in forums? Other than that, I agree that it was pretty bad so I did a major overhaul and I think that it's a little more coherent now.
so some of what you're saying is that the powers of creative mode coult have been granted more as features of the survival mode?
like gathering the resources to make a jetpack so you can fly. making a machine to farm, so you can skip that part of the game.
Not bad ideas for survival mode, and some PC mods like Equivalent Exchange kind of do that end-game kind of stuff.
In a nut shell, yes. You can already manipulate the game so that you can farm certain materials in Survival, but you should probably be able to set up various systems, that can produce large quantities of any item. I'm saying that I have more fun in survival mode and I would really like to be able to build more efficiently, in survival mode. I really don't think that you should be able to jump in and out of different modes so easily either, as it's just too tempting to do so and the game loses some lasting appeal because of this. But until it's a little less of a chore to get anything done in survival mode, I have no problem with the way things are at the moment.
I read the whole thing and did not understand a damn thing you said. It ran off the main topic so many times, I guarantee if it didn't this wall would not exist.
Really? IS it really that tough to understand? And what the hell is this "wall" that you guys are on about?
China called... Yup, you guessed it... They want their wall back.
& It's fine the way it is.
Well I'm glad you think so. I don't think it's fine the way it is. Not by a damned sight. I enjoy it the way it is, but the game is in constant development for a reason.
After you've seen and done all that there really is to do, Survival swiftly becomes tedious and monotonousness. After a while, all that I was doing was grinding fore materials and then building with those materials. That's exactly the point that I was at, just before this last update, when creative mode became available. I haven't spent a minute in Survival since then. But this has got me to thinking. I'm not sure if this is a good thing.
I'd rather see things get a little more interesting, creatively, in survival mode. Things like making it so that mining could be done more effectively and that farming and industrial systems could be made to acquire large quantities of most materials. Perhaps you could eventually make a jet pack or somehting, so that you could have virtually the same swift approach to construction.
All of this lends itself much better to the other aspects of the game: exploration, adventure, survival, practical construction etc. Giving the game more purpose. They could essentially include a means of creating your own highly effective tool set. That way, you are still fully immersed in the adventure and atmosphere of the game, while not being stifled as much creatively.
Anyway, thanks for reading and I look forward to other insights on this topic.
AD:
I'm not suggesting that creative mode be removed from the game. That would be ridiculous. I'm only suggesting that survival should be beefed up enough so that people like myself, who would much prefer to build in survival, can stop using creative mode. Creative mode really takes away from the pride for me. I have more love for my survival builds. But survival can be a bit too limited and tedious. This could easily be dealt with and I think that most people would be happy about it.
Obviously, if you are out there making epic worlds and servers and massive redstone projects, then creative is a must. I'm not bashing anyone here.
Did you install Java 6 64 bit from the link I give above? The "Windows Offline 64 bit" one? I'm just curious. Also, the most recent version of the Nvidia drive might help too. But since you already have it working, it's probably not worth bothering with at this point.
Yeah. I may need to update Nvidia though. I'm really glad to have it running again though, because I still had some builds that I was working on and I really prefer to plan things out ahead of time.
Interesting, I only have the 64 bit version of java 6 installed (in C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\) and it works fine. I don't think 32 or 64 bit matters, as long as it's java 6. At least that's how it works for me. If the one batch file doesn't work, then use the other one.
Might also depend on your video card / driver, but I don't think so.
It does seem strange, but it tells me that Java 3d isn't installed on the 64 bit version, which is a pretty common problem. They mention this issue in the FAQ on the MSP website. They said that the Java 3D for the 64bit version doesn't reliably install. So I guess you're lucky. Even Java recommends going with 32 bit for better stability. It may also be some settings that I messed around with in the NVIDIA control panel a while back, lol. Either way, it works fine now, so thanks for the help. It'll be the only program I use, that uses Java 6, so this works out beautifully.
To get this working, download java 6 from here http://www.java.com/...d/manual_v6.jsp and install it, you may also want to install java 7 from here http://www.java.com/...load/manual.jsp you can have both at the same time. Make sure to get the version for your operating system. If you're on 64 bit, try also getting the 32 bit.
Download the app from the link in the first page and install it somewhere. You will need to know where, you can put it on your desktop, that will work, might mess up the batch file. It's best to put it in a sub folder on your hard drive, mine's in F:\Minecraft Stuff\Utilities but yours can be anywhere you like.
Save the file and close notepad, then double click the batch file to run it. Worked fine for me.
That was a great idea. It did work for me, but people with windows 7 64 -bit OS should be warned that this program actually needs the Java 6 32 bit to work properly. It needs 6 to draw up the interface correctly and it has to be the 32bit version to render in 3d. My Java 6 32 bit installed into the "Program Files (x86)" directory. I also got the 64 bit version, which installed in the regular "Program Files" folder. So check and see where it installed, because you would have to change the directory in the command line, in you .bat file, accordingly. Such as:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -jar "C:\MinecraftStructurePlanner.exe"
