posted a message on Looking for an active Mature Vanilla Minecraft Realm

    Hello,

I am looking to join an active realm of mature players. Looking for a small community vanilla mine craft experience, which is one of the reasons I prefer realms.

Beyond that I'm not horribly picky. A new realm would be great, but is not required. Looking for semi-active to active group of people to play with.

A bit about myself: I IT infrastructure and work a full time job. I am 33 years old, and have been a gamer from a young age. Been playing minecraft since pre-survival.

When I first join a new server I tend to go off on my own to get settled in. I like to gather all my own resources until I can clear the end on my own. I also like keeping my base to myself, a bit of a hermit in that respect.

I do like participating in community builds as well (helping gather materials, farm mobs/resources). Especially enjoy fighting the ender dragon or hunting mobs in the nether with other players. When I have the time I like building farms and community resources.

Let me know if you think I might be a good fit for your realm. I will post back here once I think I've found the server that's right for me.

    Thanks!

posted a message on Permissions Plugin Issues
    Using: http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/admn-d ... -556.5974/

My permissions were fine until today all of a sudden. Now the plugin will not load. What's strange to me is I wasn't having this issue pervious days. Now when I check server backups (I back up the entire folder) pervious backups are having this same issue. I have no idea what I can do to solve the problem.

I've tried starting from scratch with the permissions file. For some reason the LWC permissions mod works, but if I try adding ANY other permissions the plugin will suddenly not load anymore.

I have no idea where to go from here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Quote from rch »
Respawning: Download and use CraftBukkit and get a plugin for it that allows users to set their own homes. MCEdit would allow you to edit your maps one spawn place but would not give each user the ability to set their own.

Permissions: Along with a plugin to set homes, you can use "GroupManager" to set up users and groups to either allow or disallow a plethora of things, including building rights.

Whitelist: The built in White-List basically says "anyone on this list can join the server, anyone who is not on this list will not be able to login".

Backups: When the server 'saves' it is not making a backup, it is just saving the current progress to the world folder. I'd suggest setting up an automated task/.BAT (batch) file that runs ever so often and copies the world folder to a separate location. The organization/retention of that is basically up to you..

You can use McMyAdmin to handle almost all of this in a nicely wrapped application that's very easy to use.. check it out: http://www.mcmyadmin.com

Thanks a lot. I'll definitley check it out.

This stuffs been nagging me in the back of my mind for a while now so I really appreaciate the help/advice.

    Thanks again. :iapprove:

posted a message on Running a New Server. Couple of Questions
    Hey guys.

I just started a new server with my gf. It started out as something just for the two of us for fun, but since then we've grown and now have 4 other friends playing with us.

As other people begin to join our needs are starting to grow. I was hoping you guys could give me a few suggestions/pointers with a couple of things.

The major one everyone respawning in the same spot is becoming to be a bit of a chore now that we've spread out and built everywhere. What's the best way to give everyone the ability to set thier own individual spawn points? Someone mentioned MC edit. Is this the best way to go about that?

Also: as our server begins to grow I'm worried about two things. Backups of our maps and permissions.

Should I just use the whitelist for now to make it so only certain people can build in my server? how does it work exactly? Just pop the name in the text file and anyone not on the list cant build?

Also, I noticed the server saves a lot on its own. Every couple of days I make a backup copy of everything, but is there a better automated way of doing it so that i have multiple backups that span a period of time.

A lot of questions I know. Much appreciated anyone who can awnser even one of these questions.

    Thanks a bunch in advance.

Alright. I am new to all of this.

I have my port forwarding setup, and verified that port 25565 is open.

I edited my server setupfile to verify-names=false

I run the server. It appears to run properly and generates all the files its supposed to.

When I give the link to a friend the server will not load. I cant not connect to my own server either

My firewall is turned off, and I'm not running any anti virus program.

Any suggestions/advice. I really want to run a server but this just isnt working out when I try it on my own. I've looked over multiple tutorials and have not found a solution.

    Thanks in advance.
