I was sitting here, playing Minecraft, listening to some old tapes about how aliens built the pyramids.
...
And so that kinda made me want to build the pyramids too...
However, there just isn't a suitable block type that gives you the artifical look while still being sandy coloured.
Adding to this is the problem of caves in deserts, where the sand causes them to collapse rather easily.
Enter "Sandstone" and, since I can't come up with a better word, "Egyptite."
Sandstone is just as it says, stone that is sand colored. It only needs to be a reskin of regular stone and is located under deposits of sand. In a way, it acts like a bedrock to the sand, preventing caves from collapsing just because they're under a desert or beach.
"Egyptite" is what I'd call the construction version of sandstone. It is basically just a cobblestone reskin, but done in such a way that it is easily distinguishable from sand and sandstone. Thus, we may build nice pyramids in the name of Notch-Ra.
If you have a better name for Egyptite, go ahead. It's a placeholder to begin with.
Building on this theme, I suggest marble, the ability to make sculpted pillars (stone pillars, Eygptite pillars, marble pillars, etc), and statues; allowing for a Greco-Roman theme to be added to our available options.
Ideally, this would all be fairly simple to make. I mean there isn't much that stone is used for in the construction bar so why not three in a line make a pillar.
= pillar
= Statue
Not much we need to fret over.
The statues would be much like paintings in terms of variety, though less extreme in number. A good simple few to decorate our fountains and gardens should be fine.
Possibly, we could step up to industrial-type styles.
Depends on what Notch is willing to cook up.
I for one am quite pleased with Medieval-themed buildings, but am growing a little tired of not having that many options in terms of style...
It's not like I'm limited in what I can build, but I am in what I can build with.
However, there is one major problem to it all:
How will the player be able to safely enter or exit a floating island?
Build a tower up to it.
"Oh, but it might be dangerous if you fall."
Yup...it sure will be.
Your safety in Minecraft is nobody's problem but your own, as far as Survival mode is concerned.
That's of course the normal method, which I have no real problem with per se, but I just feel like there should be a more interesting way that brings out the unique-ness of a goddamn floating mountain.
Okay, we've all heard the back and forth regarding Floating Islands and the idea that they'd eventually be a biome.
However, there is one major problem to it all:
How will the player be able to safely enter or exit a floating island? I mean, they are giant floating continents, after all.
You'd need a really cool way to reach 'em and a safe manner of getting back down.
I don't really have a suggestion myself, so this is more of a you-find-the-solution sort of thread.
The only thing I could come up with was that there gravity life from Halo. Which would be kinda hard to use, imho.
I personally don't care for floating islands. I know some people like them and there should be an option for their existence/prevalence, which I would set to "none whatsoever."
However, I want to be able to build as I please and not have my constructions fall down on top of themselves because I misplaced a block or because a creeper got lucky and blew up a support. I also build my roofs in a manner which might be broken by such an update.

So yeah, I don't want everything to collapse on top of my head, but dirt really shouldn't hang up in the air imho.
I don't know about a straight up biome, but Slime infested towns would be a better idea and would kind of tie in with the whole "taking over" an area notion.
Rather than creating a huge amount of new blocks, instead have it sort of like a type of grass or snow and would only cover blocks.
As for different types of slime mobs, that's stupid. You just need two sorts of slimes: regular ones and infested people, or whoever originally inhabited the town.
Slime pigs, slime creepers, slime zombies: those are silly.
In any case, I've never seen a slime in game. Not that I doubt their existence, just feel that I'm not as familiar with them as I am with the other hostile mobs. Notch should fix that. Give slimes some character.

Just wondering...

That'll make this game more realistic.

Don't forget to write a strongly worded letter.

I for one like being an evil locust upon the land.
