    Ah, so it's fairly common?

I've just never had this much trouble with the boats before. This is the first version I've played that they actually desynced this badly.

(Also posted in the Support Area.)

    Greetings.

I was playing 1.4.7 for some time and found that I wasn't really having any issues, but I wanted the ability to up my memory a bit and realized the new launcher could do that, so I figured I'd update to 1.6.4...

I did put in my two mods, but have recently taken them out as I started realizing something very strange: whenever I was in a boat, I started finding that I kept running into what seemed like invisible land. I'd be going down the middle of a sizeable river and, next thing I know, I'd be in the drink. No land to hit, nothing beneath me, no squids in my way...I'd just suddenly be in the water with nothing left of the boat. This continued even after removing the mods and going completely clean.

I thought that was pretty strange, but it's become more so.

Several times, just in the past hour, I've run my boat up to the coast and jumped out using Shift, only to find myself a good fifteen squares away and in the water where I'd just sailed past. When I went up to the boat, I could jump on it, push it, anything and it would act like a completely solid block. But, when I went back out into the water, I would seemingly push on nothing and the boat would start moving. Basically, acting like the actual boat was invisible, but the completely solid one was the one that showed as being there. It's insanely strange. It only happens when I've been in a boat and travelling with it for some length of time. Setting a boat down and getting in and out, it works fine.

My sister, who is running 1.7.2, appears to be having the same issues, despite her game being completely unmodded as well.

Is anyone else having this happen to them? Any answers would be fantastic. Thanks for your time!

posted a message on JourneyMap 5.5.x: Realtime mapping in-game or in a web browser as you explore
Hey! I tweeted this question to you as well, but I thought maybe I'd give it an ask here, too. *chuckles*

I've got a monster of a map, having been using JourneyMap for ages. I recently updated from 1.4.7 to 1.6.2 and would love to know how to bring the old maps into the new setup. Any help on this would be most appreciated! Thanks!

posted a message on Problem with Forge, won't even try to run the installer. Need help, please.
Doesn't work. I went through, found Java and it refuses to come up.

All that happens is a command window for a fraction of a second, then nothing at all.

I downloaded Forge to see if I could get it to work with the 1.6.4 version of the new Minecraft.

I got the .jar file and, in a very irritating turn, every time I try and open it? It opens the file and shows me what's inside. It doesn't give me ANY option to actually run it to install it.

I can't find anything on the Forge site about it and, unfortunately, I left a letter out of my email by accident when registering, so I can't friggin' register there to ask the question because their site doesn't allow multiple accounts on one computer or something...

So, does anyone know how to make the damn .jar file run as a program? This is starting to make me want to throw something through my monitor, so any help would be very much appreciated...

posted a message on Need An Assist: Memory increase .bat file isn't working since new Java...
    Greetings.

I've not played in a while and (not wanting to update to 1.7 yet), I've opted to keep my 1.4.7 install of the game. This has been working great and I've been chugging along on my world until recently, when I had to install a new Java version. This seems to have worked fine except for one rather distinct problem: my .bat file that I used to increase the memory for the game isn't working any more.

    The error message is:
Windows cannot find 'java'. make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

I've been using this shortcut for ages to be able to increase the memory, but now that I've updated, it doesn't work at all. I can play the game, but I get a decent amount of stops and starts with the game if I don't up the memory a bit.

Current version of Java is Version 7 Update 45.

I can post the coding I used in the .bat file, though it's basically one that I found online to do it. I'll post any other specs as needed as well.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out!

posted a message on Underwater Village - Need Some Help
The next project that I'm considering is a large, underwater city. I was thinking that I would make the top of it into a sizeable underwater village. However, I haven't been able to find much on how to actually get this working so it doesn't flip out or just not work.

Specifically, how deep can the village actually be before the water totally blocks things and the village can no longer see sky overhead? The wiki just says you need to have transparent blocks overhead and water only counts as a partial transparency. Obviously, if it's a matter of only enough blocks to have zero light beneath the surface, this makes it a little more difficult, but I need to know if the build is viable or not.

If anyone can help me out with this, I'd appreciate it!

posted a message on No new snapshot this week
The snapshots are released because it is easier to find the bugs when thousands of people are doing so, rather than letting the team test it out for themselves and only having a couple dozen trying to do so.

That said, they are not owed to anyone. There is no other game I know of that will actually let the players try out new features and catch the bugs ahead of time. Only three snapshots have been missed since 1.3.1 came out:

The week of August 16th was because they were busy releasing 1.3.2.

The week of August 30th was because they were halfway around the bloody world at PAX, promoting Minecraft and doing a panel for the game. This does not count as a vacation.

And this week, which IS because of a vacation.

Feeling entitled much? Cause complaining about them missing ONE WEEK for personal reasons certainly appears to be making the case for it...

Coal when I only need a few multiples of 8 to cook. Lava otherwise, because of its efficiency.

posted a message on Mod api is 1.4, right?
I figure one can *****, complain and spit vitriol all they want, but it's not going to change anything. As has been said earlier in the thread, it should and will be done when it's working right and will not inadvertently do damage to the game just because a few people are incapable of understanding patience. The people who complain about ANYTHING different in Minecraft (or feel that there's some huge conspiracy against the players by the people who are giving the players things to tide them over) will feel 'betrayed' no matter what, but, as it should be, nobody should care about those people any ways.

Patience is a virtue. It will come, but people aren't going to stop modding any time soon, so just deal until it gets here. Until then, enjoy the deluge of content coming in through the snapshots. It's quite good.

I suppose I should have taken even more pictures...

It is open in one area, yes, which is a cliff/overhang, but goes deeper inside. The roof is almost as high as the mountain top and burrows a little ways through the mountain chain beside it, creating a rather massive cavern inside with only a few blocks on each side.

I've explored an awful lot in my world, but I have to say that this particular place is one of the most interesting that I've found. I was looking for entrances to underground in the local area and stumbled across it completely on accident. Eventually, I'm going to figure out how to build a decent house here without wrecking how it looks.

I ended up making a Photo Album on Imgur for it, so here you go.

Inspired, I went looking for my own mountain that I could do this to...

Oddly enough, I ended up finding this during my extensive explorations. Seems the game did the hollowing for me.
