No mods that require "Forge" will be usable on 1.7, 1.7.1, or 1.7.2 -- since has not been released for this version of Mincecraft as yet. Wait a month or two or play 1.6.x for now.
Make it so the smeltery can be completely emptied without resorting to destroying the control block. It keeps getting stuck with a couple nuggets or chunks worth of liquid metal! Not fun to get it all restarted.
Actually, in real life tools and items are made by various processes. Liquid molds are the rarest type. Presses, brakes, molders, shapers, milling machines, davenport machines, screw machines, and the list goes on. So, in a way the realism isn't that close to real life.
Anybody on the Forge team have a reply to this? Anyone else have the same problem? "Is this thing on?" ... taps microphone.Okay, then. I will answer this myself since no one on the Forge team has read/replied. I have read a few posts by LexManos over on the Forge forum and it seems that support is not in any Forge before 1.6.1 and will never be added. He suggested using MultiMC for similar functionality. Which would be okay, except that the MultiMC app launcher has so many issues for such a simple need. I would rather have Minecraft (including the Forge API) just do the right thing (as defined my mojang). In other words, all references to the game files should go through "gameDir". I supposed that would be too big a patch to backport it to the earlier versions.Bye
I was just redownloading MC 1.5.2 and reinstalling forge in order to get the new profile functionality added to the new launcher.
I set up the 1.5.2 profile and started Minecraft. Then I downloaded the Forge 1.5.2 installer. Ran it and got a new version folder: "C:\Users\<redacted>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\versions\1.5.2-Forge7.8.1.737".
When I selected a new profile (Forge152) to use that version, Minecraft starts nicely, but it does not create anything in the "gameDir" = .mcf152. No mods folder, no config, no coremods... It did create those folders in my %appdata%\.minecraft directory, however.
When I look at the development console output it clearly shows that gameDir has been set properly to %appdata%\.mcf152 ... however, all references in the log to mods, textures, assets, etc. come only from the .minecraft folder.
I searched on the forge site, and all the replies to this topic millieau seem to suggest that 'gameDir' is the answer to all mod separation/organizing problems. However, if just doesn't work unless I have done it all wrong.
So, please let me know. What am I missing here?

As the log shows, the mods are being searched for in the wrong gameDir!!! If I copy my mods into the profile mods folder (creating it manually) it doesn't see them. It only sees my mods when they are in %appdata%\.minecraft\mods; so it does not use the gameDir option at all. This seems a Forge issue, but I cannot tell until the mods load properly.
This info would never make it into the book "Mods for Dummies". It's way too technical and specific to be useful to the general gamer. Terms like installer, "open up", launch, extract, and types such as zip are not in the general knowledge base. Entire wiki's are devoted to just this topic. But, if it helps anyone at all, I guess that makes it worthwhile.'
Thanks, the spotlight was informative as far as it went.
However, since you were in creative mode throughout 99% of the video, we never see the effects of the drinks or the thirst bar. That was a major oversight. I would have preferred a video done mostly in survival, since that is what the viewers are mostly doing.
This is what I get with clean .minecraft folder and one mod (Forge) when I click test. And it has been the same the entire night. I let it run while I was sleeping. All the jars are original and unmodified in any way.
I have to add Forge to the minecraft.jar file, as MagicLauncher does not seem able to start successfully any other way.
Does Sp614x have any clues about this. It only happens with 1.5.2 with no other version of minecraft installed.
Okay, I did that. Not the app will not start at all in magic launcher. All I get it a FML error message.

Not what I expected after removing .minecraft and starting over!!! Of course this is a MCF error and nothing to do with ML. I will download the files manually and see what happens then.
S
Edit: After manually downloading the deobfuscation-1.5.2,jar manually into the libs forlder. FML no longer gives me that error and it runs past the Mojang screen to a black-frozen-screen again.
Same error message at the same location as before with a completely new .minecraft folder.
Yet, it works with the normal launcher from mojang if I put the files into the minecraft.jar file.
Somebody somewhere has a strange version of 1.5.2 and I know it's not me.
I have MC versions and Mods from 1.6.6 through 1.5.2. Everyone of them can be played using Magic 1.0.0.
The Launcher version (with very few exceptions) is completely arbitrary to the MC version you use it with!!!
If you use the "Default.jar", that changes with each update. That is why you get a crash! Add a version number and you can stop that!
My \bin contains
minecraft1.4.7.jar
minecraft1.5.1.jar
minecraft1.5.2.jar
WorldEdit.jar
I can play ANY (except WE) of these versions by simply selecting which one I choose to play with.
Again, that is exactly how my game is setup. Read the spoiler:

I even got rid of the old jar files to in bin in order to clear up possible sources of error. I also removed WorldEdit.jar to eliminate that from possibilty. All that is left is the standard 1.5.2 minecraft jar rename to minecraft-1.5.2,jar and the builtins from mojang ...
The default launcher does noy complain - even with forge copied into the jar it runs all the way. When the jar is premodded with forge, even ML will run all the way. The failure is only when Forge is added to magic launcher's mods tab and not inserted into the jar. There it stops on the black screen after the mojang logo and sits. I don't know if the exception shown in the log is the culprit but that is all that the log contiains when it hangs.
Sorry to be such a pain, but I love this launcher due to its convenience and ease of operation. It is a good utility and I just wish I could get it to run all the way with 1.5.2.
S
By the way, zan's minimap is a mod I just added before running this last ditch effort. It wasn't there in the previous failure-to-run attempt. So, it had no effect on this exception. By the way, I'm a professional java developer (have been since java was an infant - I started with java when c++ was still getting standardized).
I could run the full eclipse stack trace, but I would prefer not reverse engineer the app.
MagicLauncher is NOT tied to the MC version. 1.0.0 works just fine with MC 1.5.2!
That may be so. But, ML worked for version 1.4.7 and 1.5.1 for me with Forge and tons of mods. Now, after starting with a clean 1.5.2 and the latest Forge 1.5.2, it fails to run (black-screen of froze) and the same mod works perfectly when simply installed in another clean 1.5.2 MC jar file. See my post a page back.
Well thanks for that bit'o brightness. This ain't my first play of MC modded or otherwise. If there had been any options to just "turn it on" then I would not be posting here. Also, don't you suppose that it would default to 'on' when it's installed to save a player a heck of a lot of confusion after installing it? Just a guess, since that how it worked in FTB and Technic.
But thanks for bumping.
S
edit: I figured out what caused this. aww.class is not available to this mod because Forge overwrites it. So, the mod never starts. It starts fine without any other mods to hijack aww.class though.

Yup. Now there there is just a broken spoiler tag where the screenshots should be.

What am I missing here?

hint: ??? is redacted user name.
Thanks

Thanks, the spotlight was informative as far as it went.
However, since you were in creative mode throughout 99% of the video, we never see the effects of the drinks or the thirst bar. That was a major oversight. I would have preferred a video done mostly in survival, since that is what the viewers are mostly doing.

I have to add Forge to the minecraft.jar file, as MagicLauncher does not seem able to start successfully any other way.
Does Sp614x have any clues about this. It only happens with 1.5.2 with no other version of minecraft installed.
Thanks,

Edit: After manually downloading the deobfuscation-1.5.2,jar manually into the libs forlder. FML no longer gives me that error and it runs past the Mojang screen to a black-frozen-screen again.
Same error message at the same location as before with a completely new .minecraft folder.
Yet, it works with the normal launcher from mojang if I put the files into the minecraft.jar file.
Somebody somewhere has a strange version of 1.5.2 and I know it's not me.

Again, that is exactly how my game is setup. Read the spoiler:
