posted a message on TERRAIN SEEDS ARE USEFUL! AND HERE'S WHY:
    Quote from Redyoshi101

Fact: the terrain is better in the new snapshots. Epic overhangs, and more.
Fact: terrain SEEDS being USEFUL are completely unrelated to TERRAIN being INTERESTING.
Fact: terrain seeds are useless, because every similar typed biome are basically the same. Sure, extreme hills, and maybe desert biomes, have crazy terrain, but if the crazy terrain is similar in each extreme hills/desert biome you come across, what is the point? The reason for this is because after 1.8, each biome is generated by a separate strip of code, whereas before it was completely free, biomes only adding things like snow, trees, etc, and not terrain itself.
Fact: shock and awe, the biome generation code for one desert biome is THE SAME as it will be for the next one you find.
Fact: Jeb apparently thinks that the community wants crazy terrain everywhere, when what they want is diversity from biome to biome.
Fact: the easiest fix would be to make biomes generate according to terrain, not terrain according to biome.
    Fact: your argument is invalid.

Are you replying to OP or the post above? Re: 1. The terrain was also more interesting in pre-1.8 than in the actual release. Not to say that this is destine to be redundant to 1.8, but I'll be keeping my eyes open. 2. You're right, and I think I might've gotten a bit fuzzy there myself, but the fact that you can relate terrain being interesting to seeds being useless, because as you point out later in your post, the generation code for biomes is the same on each one. There is no uniqueness, and seeds are used to show unique things on minecraft. If there is none there is no point. Does that make sense to you? 3. Agreed. 4. Agreed. 5. I don't really know what to say about that. I'd guess we'd want interesting and fun terrain, not like wedge with the insanity level (or whatever it's called) on 100%. 6. That would work out, most of the time. 7. This is why I don't know who you're replying to. Point out what part of my argument you think is invalid, if I'm the one you're replying to?

posted a message on TERRAIN SEEDS ARE USEFUL! AND HERE'S WHY:
The old generator has bugs. The new generator has bugfixes. The old generator has no biomes. The new generator has many biomes. The old generator had small and conquerable caves. The new has giant caves you will never find an end to. The old generator had no structures. The new generator has buggy and disrupting structures that have a chance to destroy other features.

Ladies and gentlemen, minecraft used to be a game of fantasy. A game where the fog in the distance made you feel the sharp, crisp air against your skin, and finding things and collecting resources was a fun challenge. A game where you could see anything from a towering mountain littered with charming trees sitting on a small plain, to scattered hills, tops of some trees barely visible. You could find a river clearing split by a large delta, and more charming islands past. Before you think I'm nostalgic, I'll talk about the new generator. Now, minecraft is a game of diversity. Giant, spammed mountains, devoid of life spout across the landscape, hard to cross except by the unchanging land around it. Deserts and plains now make up more of the landscape. Features have become easy to find and repetitive, and caves are now unconquerable, and go on forever. Instead of the unique and varying terrain, seeds are shown for the structure generation, pretty much implying "here you go, now you don't have to work for it." If you had found an NPC village yourself, this would be much more thrilling. Most seeds only cover the spawn and things near it. Wouldn't you like a seed that keeps being as amazing as the spawn 160 chunks away? Even the forests have lost their hills, and rarely spout past 80 blocks, which, remembering 64 is the sea level, is sad.

I will say this, the old generator was nice. I don't want it back, though. The new generator needs work. I am fine with the new generator being the way it is, so long as it is mastered, which right now it is not. The new generator is supposed to make you feel as if you have a sense of living in a certain place, and find certain things. Like each biome is a new adventure, just waiting to be explored. With gigantic tiaga generated next to flat deserts, and huge mountains devoid of life and trees? Every biome feels like a chore. In the swamp, you must deal with lilypads and the ugly colors. In the jungle, you must find your way past the cluttered ground floor and scattered leaves before you can make it out. In the desert, if night falls, you are in serious trouble, same as the plains. In the ocean, you must endure days and days of sailing before finding any land suitable for inhabiting; as some examples.

Again, I don't want the old generator back. I'm fine with the new generator, as long as Mojang can make it feel like an adventure again. Bring back the thrills, the hills, and make the generator generate things that will make our eye pop out of our heads, not throw up through our corneas.

My view is that this has been playing out like an episode of The Office for quite a few pages now. Somehow you're now policing the thread Seimiro! "You - move on! You can stay. What did you say? WHAT DID YOU SAY! Don't let me see you hanging around here again or there'll be trouble." (Paraphrased)

In the interest of balance, and to support responding to Shreaders' comments about how representative the number of supporters are, I have started a related (but significantly different) thread:

TERRAIN SEEDS ARE USEFUL! AND HERE'S WHY:
    http://www.minecraft...-and-heres-why/

It is early days, however I have high hopes for it.

Ok, you say I'm policing the thread. That's pretty accurate, but the only reason I get upset at anyone is because they don't listen. First time here, I read the whole OP, and searched the thread using the search bar for people who might've posted the same thing. I see it happen in a lot of threads, people just repost already said ideas, and it gets annoying. The fact is that with this thread, people would learn by reading the other posts. Things like "let's get the old generator back, that'll make everyone happy" has already been said, and is not what we want. Also, "you are just being nostalgic". How are we being nostalgic when we don't want the old generator back, we just want some new features that can be exemplified from the old generator? These kinds of things might be understood if people would read related posts. As for other things that people post as original ideas, I just give them reasons on why they shouldn't oppose. Is it really fair that a feature that was great was taken away for so many versions, to be left with this? The old players are disappointed, and the new players are not able to experience this. It just isn't fair, and so I'm sticking to that belief, though I'm going to be trying my best not to get hostile about it from now on.
As for your thread, seeds usefulness isn't the main focus here. It is to get people's attention. If you don't know, the relevance to seeds being boring is that the world generation is basically the same for all seeds. Really, people only share seeds for certain biomes spawned in or structures. Structures, structures, structures. "Oh, look, there's an NPC village on top of a stronghold next to a pyramid in the desert, so that you don't have to explore or challenge yourself at all." Really, you're responding to the wrong thing. If you wanted to fight this thread, you'd name it: The Terrain is Bumpy Enough! And Here's Why: or something along the lines of that.

posted a message on Annoying Orange, Episode BEFORE the Premiere?
So, I was watching the Annoying Orange premiere when it aired, and when it said it, I thought, "Hey, didn't I already see an episode where they made fun of Star Trek, went to marshmellow's home planet where they overuse the word "yay", and kill a rock candy monster threatening to destroy marshmellow's people while Toby Turner was repairing the ship?"

Well yeah, I did see that episode before the premiere, and I remember it well. Did anyone else notice this or could explain it? I also remember back when I was forced to watch High School Musical, a little clip of Phineas and Ferb played, and no one heard anything about the show until months later, but it was nothing compared to the full blown episode of Annoying Orange.

Floating islands were rare, and are even more rare now. But they still exist. I don't get though why everyone complained about them, unless they of course 3 dirt block islands.

Yes, because that wasn't just an example, it was the only evidence I had on the matter, obviously. There are absolutely no other bugs that were on the generators, like the parts of terrain where there's random blocks taken out to make it look like a checkerboard, or floating sand connected to desert "mountains", or any other bugs for that matter. Obviously that was what I wanted the post to be focused on, and was the absolute main idea about the floating islands. Obvious sarcasm is obvious.

Even if you weren't trying to oppose, please stick with the main idea, or say "I get what you're saying, but as for the floating island... ect ect ect...." or say "I don't agree with you, but as for the floating islands you mentioned.... ect ect ect...."

The far lands were at 12550820 blocks, but the block offset/whatever is not THAT far away from the center. It was the thing I was talking about :)
The point is, then was buggy, now was buggy. Now we don't have all those "floating islands" everyone talks about and complained about, but that's why we don't want the old generator back, because others will **** and moan if we did. It's just as buggy or more buggy as it was before, so it doesn't matter. In fact, if you would call it a bug, I see lots of structure generation messed up by it crossing into another structure, or simply looking at NPC villagers trying to get out of their houses. We just want some variation. God, do I need to hire a lawyer and take this to court?

You say that the terrain before 1.8 (This includes 1.7) was better, but you say you don't like it at the start because of floating gravel. So what do you want? A new terrain generator?
Nice way to shoot somebody's idea down even though it was freakin amazing.
Da hell do you want then? Candyland? Willy Wonka biome? Fire biome? Bed land? Damn

Yes, we want a new generator, but not a completely new one. I don't care about the floating gravel, it adds charm. The only thing I don't like floating is dirt, and when it's the extreme hills color it looks more ugly.

So someone gets and idea, that had already been suggested, not bothering to actually take his time to read that much at all, and you think that that's ok? It's like in the small suggestions thread I often go on. If I see an idea reposted by someone else than the original guy, I tell them, search the freaking topic, then post your idea. If you get results and it's what you would've said, bump. If not, reply to it and make renditions. It's what I do when I come across a thread with too many pages to read. It's what I did here.

Bringing back the old generator would be a bad move. Not only would everyone be like "BUUUT WHY???", a lot of people would be saying, "the new generator was better! There were bigger caves and more flat land to build on AND YOU DON'T LOVE ME!" Through recent updates the minecraft fanbase has been used to getting babied and things made easier, so that's probably why they'd say that. Also, bringing the old generator back would mean that not many new biomes. That feature would have to be reimplemented, which means it wouldn't even be the old generator anyway. The thing is, it had a lot of bugs, but interesting terrain. The new generator has few bugs, but the terrain sucks.

So take the best of both worlds. Keep the bugfix, get back the terrain. Also, if the group who got the old generator back actually succeeded, how many players would start calling us nostalgic? That's not what we are. People will object, and large groups of them. It won't make everyone happy because i doubt this one poster on the minecraft forum has asked a large portion of their community for this change. Shreaders has gotten many supporters and replies alike, and he has 32 pages. That's one post of nonsense. Not only is the idea of bringing back the generator false, but there are already mods for that, so they aren't going to put it in.

We have already defined what we want. We want height variation in biomes. We want smaller and conquerable caves that do not go on forever. We want mountains everywhere, not spammed together, and we want them to be possible in every biome. We don't want an old generator back. We are just using it as an example as to how far down the quality of terrain has come.

That long mockery of every basic existing biome (forgot jungle) was saying that really, those biomes are pointless. Let's count the flat ones. 1 plains (granted, but still, it adds up), 2 desert, 3 tundra, 4 ocean (they're not flat on the bottom, but you can't readily build or walk on the bottom, so...), 5 tiaga (it's different, but not very high), 6 forest (same for tiaga). The mushroom biome is just useless, though I'll say again, I'm sure the dev team will make some practical use for it. The only biome with height is extreme hills, and is bald, (has no trees really at all) and spammed together so it's hard to trek. Then around it you have the flat terrain.

What do I want? How about some interesting biomes that make sense, and aren't dull and flat, annoying or pointless? That should not be too much to ask! It's minecraft, and it has been done before. It was a lot buggier, but atleast it was fun! There's no good reason it's not there now except accidents. Yes, the 1.8.1 release generator was an accident when they were working on it. They went from there, because far lands were removed. Just because far lands were removed. That's why they took away our beauty, because there were no more farlands.

I would prefer 1.7 gen with current biomes and features... You're making it complicated with the whole ''Have 1.8 gen but raise the variety level to pre-1.8'' What's the point?

No, that doesn't make sense to me what you said. What the thread wants is to keep the "current generator but add height variation" so people don't claim everyone is on a nostlagia trip, and other minecraft players don't go whining about it.

posted a message on Artist Needed! Minecraft Forum Banner!
    Hello artists,

My friend and I recently started a YouTube channel named Nether Co. Productions: http://www.youtube.c...s?feature=guide,
http://www.minecraft...__fromsearch__1 He and I have been busy setting up things, and recently I have made a banner for us, though as I am an amateur (as you can see if you look at my signature), I'd appreciate a real artist who could take the project to the next level. This is a simple yet enjoyable project that you can do in your spare time, and all credit will be paid due to the artist(s).

The template must include the channel name, some of our features (custom maps, survival, mod spotlights, commentaries and the likes) displayed around the name, and must stick to a "minecraft nether" theme. This means using say blaze head icons, nether bricks (like shown below), netherrack, ghasts, and all associated things.

I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with!

I've had the water problem in another game. It is your GPU which isnt good enough to handle it.

Nononono, my GPU is fine, it doesn't lag anymore since I updated the drivers, and BEFORE I updated the drivers it never did this, so that isn't the problem. It's some weird technical thing, I suppose, but my GPU can run minecraft with an HD Texture pack on a server flying in creative mode. CPU intensive and GPU can keep up. It's just newer games that get it itching.

posted a message on Skyrim! Extreme Controls Failure & Other Bugs! Need Help!
Please read the whole post to get a full-grip of these issues. Thank you. I recently installed Skyrim again. Today, in fact, if you look at the date posted. The only things remaining of the game in my computer were save files. I had manually uninstalled all leftovers from my computer.

Anyway, I made a new character, and along my adventures trying to find Bleak Fall's Barrow (in which I will explain another problem) I found a horse, just wandering around, though it had to be stolen, ect ect. So trying to shorten this up, I stole this horse in sneak mode, had gotten off the horse multiple times to fight things, and could stand back up. Then, I died from falling, and had to reload to the time just before I got on. So this time I got on the horse in sneak mode, and I fast-traveled to Whiterun Stables, knowing there was no path up the mountain on that side (yeah, bad direction) and wanting to stable him so I could go, then come back to an alive and stationary horse. Well, I got off, and couldn't stand back up. I got off, was still in sneak mode, and could not press either of my control buttons (which are not broken) to stand back up. I had a similar problem with my inventory button, (TAB), but just had to hold it down for it to work, but holding it down did not do the same for control. I checked my controls, reconfigured it, then put it back, and it still did not work. I restarted the game multiple times.

There are 2 other problems. 1, is that when I go to the map, and look at it, it's blurry. I don't mean like underwater blurry, I mean like bawling hysterically and eyes stinging shut blurry. It's so bad, I can't see any roads, and can barely make out features. The icons are fine, though.

The last problem is that the lighting outside is completely fezzed. It looks like a lightening storm is always raging! There isn't, but what happens is getting near a lamp, or just walking outside will make it dark, then return to light again, constantly changing light levels with no reason and sharp transitions. Similarly, I was on my horse, and near a river, but I didn't know! The water did not look like it was there AT ALL. Everything was seen completely clear, and if I recall, no water sounds were being played. I could swim in it though...

Now, taking into consideration that I had modded this game, then on THIS install being completely fresh and new, NOT modding anything or even so much as looking at the files, it acts up. I run the game on the only thing my computer can handle. Low. The lowest default settings it detected for my computer. I run on Windows XP 32-bit and have an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS graphics card. I updated the drivers because Skyrim always lagged, and now it runs smoothly, but I updated the drivers after I started my game (not while it was running, though). I didn't redetect graphics settings after updating. That would be my first guess of where the problems lies. I run no other programs during Skyrim's operation, and my computer has a lot of free space and is very clean. Why this is happening now when I have done nothing to "egg it on" is beyond me. My second guess is that I have no new updates for Skyrim installed. I installed it on Steam, but I doubt it patches the update in with it at the beginning. Could this be the source of the problems?

Thank you for your time. I appreciate your assistance to me in these matters.
