posted a message on Question about HIGH CPU in 1.9.4!!!
    Quote from Basigiaz

No problem! It should work, I've only ever tried it on my computer and haven't heard of anyone else using it before. The server itself isn't causing the lag, the client eats up resources and causes the server to lag. One more thing: That rogue chunk process also tends to slowly eat up more RAM as it goes. e.g. it starts out at 400,000 K and continues growing until I restart the client. I usually try to restart my client at 1,000,000 K memory usage, but that's up to you. Once it starts getting up there, it tends to cause lag spikes on the server.

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely try this.

It's strange for me, because the game now runs smoother than 1.8 which was unplayable due to lag spikes, but my CPU is being used like crazy and I'm having to watch the temperatures. I'm using a laptop which has a Core i7, and unless I limit my processor speed, it goes well beyond 90 degrees. Once it gets to ~93C the framerate drops to about 20fps, but it doesn't get any hotter. I'm not comfortable with these temperatures for a long period, because even GTAIV doesn't hit 90C. Might have to limit the processor even more; currently I have a 'Minecraft Mode' power plan, which limits the CPU to 70%.

When I was on 1.8, I would run the server and client. I use a fan for my laptop to keep it cool and my fps would be like 70 to 100. Maybe lower...it would jump everywhere. With 1.9.4 I'll still get +60fps but my server goes nuts and starts to say "Can't keep up".

all the 1.9 pre releases have been near unplayable for me, as Minecraft uses 150 - 180% of my CPU, causing extreme CPU temperatures that I'm not happy with being on a laptop.

Part of me feels we cant expect them to fix this while their adding so many features, but would be nice if they mentioned their aware of it, I've tweeted but no reply as yet.
Certainly needs to be fixed for 1.9 release, the 1.8 pre was fine and the finished 1.8 update ran at around 50% CPU, which I would expect.

True, it will most probably be the last thing on the to-do list before the official release. I haven't seen him talk about the performance either on his tweeter. Hopefully they fix it in pre 5...ill tweet as well.

In 1.8, Notch created a new processing thread dedicated to chunk updates in order to remove missing client-side chunks. This fix works fantastically, except that Notch forgot to set a thread priority on this new thread; as a result, it tends to take over your processor. I found a good way to fix it is to open task manager (or your platform equivalent) and set the priority for your server to high or very high and to set your client to below normal. If you have a multi-core CPU, you can also set the client process' affinity to only use one core, leaving the other free to run your server.

wow...i haven't thought of that. Thanks for the info! I have an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4Ghz with 4GB of ram. You think it will work?

Every pre release has been a lot worse on CPU than the actual update, wait for the update and see the improvement of CPU (hopefully) or try something like gamebooster which basically dedicates as much CPU as you have got available to your minecraft or whatever else you want to run.

This is probably not what you want but it's the most help I can give. :tongue.gif:

Yeah, I had gamebooster but I deleted it but haven't tried it with these pre-releases. I'll re download it and see how it turns out. Thanks for the help..any other suggestions anyone?

I am running a server and the client on a laptop. I can do this easily but since 1.9.2 and up, the client runs so damn high and running both the server and the client is hurting the server. Any fixes for the client so it can run a bit lower?

    Ignoring the useless post above...

You should be able to force the ATI card to run Minecraft in the Catalyst Control center. I dont know the exact what to do it, but there should be a method of telling to be used for javaw.exe

I have enabled the javaw.exe and minecraft.exe to High Performance and I still get low fps. I'll try to look up other methods. Thanks for the help.

I hear that the switchable graphics card doesn't want to switch to the AMD Radeon HD 6490 because of Minecraft being an OPENGL game. Is there any work around. The game is just too slow to play right now. I hear rumors that Intel is supposed to release a driver with a fix, but there's gotta be something else.

    My version is 1.7.2

The reason I haven't updated is because I don't know if that means that if I do I will have to update every single mod I have downloaded thus far, and wait for them to be updated to even download. I'm still waiting on other mods to update to 1.7.2, so I'ma keep it if I can until they are.

Anyways, I have one water wheel. Although I do not know if it has anything to do with the speed of the waterwheel, the water powering it is on ice to make it flow faster. Neat lil' trick I picked up with transporting items.

There are two axles before the gearbox, and then another one axle and a gearbox, and on like two more and THEN the pulley. Going AROUND the pulley and everything else I've powered with redstone the gearbox, well.. Attached it to a lever. I tried a button, but I don't know how to get it right because the button makes the platform drop for like a second, then go back up.

Anyways, again, the system WORKS. A platform can go up and down, meaning that the wiring is fine. The power is fine.

What's not fine is the fact that once I make it no longer a flat, one block deep, four block wide and long and turn it into a small elevator so I don't have to be right there next to the rope and anchor when I go down, it won't let me. It will lift to any extent the room, but it will not allow it to go DOWN. So, this requires me to drop to my hopefully not death, build the elevator, and take it from the bottom up everytime. I'd rather just trigger my fly mode! But I try to avoid using it for anything other than construction. NOT Transportation. Meaning to avoid using scaffolding, not to go down a giant shaft, take a tunnel and then get to the construction site. I like to travel without fly!! I want a working elevator!!! /cry

    Anyways... Anybody wanna help?

Also, anybody know similar mods that add new functionalities and mechanisms? I love mechanisms! :biggrin.gif:

But I seriously wanna get this working. I am not doing another thing with Better Than Wolf's pack until I get this done, as I have a sequence I wanna follow. Also, why is it named "Better than Wolf's?

    Thank you.

PPS: I would be glad to show you a video of my construction, but everytime I use fraps to record it my FPS drops to 3 so I can't record. I'm on a couple month old laptop so it's not that. It works well with other high end games and has plenty of space. Anybody know a different, more efficient, less fps hitting video capture? I wanna share my creations, as well as visualize my problems.

Hey, I'm doing this in my world as well. I want to make a normal elevator but I haven't completed it yet and I was wondering if it could be done b/c all I see is flat elevators in other peoples worlds, which is cool but I'd much rather have a normal elevator. Use X-split for video recording. Well, I think you can record, but I know for sure you can stream straight to JustinTV. It's much better than using fraps, never use fraps. Its sucks.

Please talk to Mr. Okushuma. The pirates are spawning soooo much and it produces so much lag. It has something to do with your GUI api mod thing. Please talk to him so you guys can get these two great mods working together!

Instead of making a infinite world make an option so that you can have a true world. Make it round so if I start at one point I can keep walking in one direction and end up at the same place. Make the world massive or have an option where when I go to make a world, I can choose how big I want it. I always wanted my minecraft world to be round instead of flat. PRETTY PLEASE!!!! I can't wait for your work to be complete!
