Nihere listened as a woman in armor entered, and was briefed on the situation. He then felt a small pang of guilt as he was informed of the three branded. He was partly responsible for them, given that he tried to help calm them when he woke up. He should have stayed longer. He should have talked to the others. But Nihere snapped himself out of it, telling himself it wasnt the time for 'could have, should have'.

After that, the young woman with red hair asked if it was okay to battle them, prompting the mayor to have them all inspected (for a lack of a better word.). Men in gold armor stared into them, as if reading their minds and judging their character. It was an unnerving experience, but the men nodded once they were done. Nihere was a member of the Mage Guild, but he had never heard of magic that could judge a person based on looking at them. He decided to ask about it later.

The mayor then explained that a scimitar was the true objective. The three branded stole it, and it was of major importance to him to have it back. They were even told to kill if necessary. He then went on to explain that the fourth branded was not a part of their group, and seemed like any other branded. She was to join them on the expedition.

Two more questions were asked, by the woman in armor, and the woman with a staff. "Were the Branded dangerous?" "How was the scimitar stolen?" The mayor described the three branded, and mentioned Dein by name. Nihere again felt responsible as the name was spoken. The other two were described as similar to a clergyman and a rogue, implying the latter stole the scimitar. For the second question, the answer was basically "Classified".

After all this happened, Nihere felt responsible for this, despite knowing that he probably couldn't have changed anything. "I would like to leave on this expedition as soon as possible. What about the rest of you?" There was a small hint of guilt in Nihere's voice that he tried to hide. He looked around the room, waiting for responses. "I'm Nihere, by the way. Nice to meet you."

Ive just realized how poorly balanced our party is when it comes to strategy. We have four mid to long-range magic users (Nihere, Peter, Ruth and Astra), and two assassins (Anders and Kahente), one of which could be a tank (Anders). We really need a Paladin or tank to hold the front line in order to protect the ranged damagers, and a healer, if healing magic exists in this RP like it does other fantasy worlds. Otherwise the only strategy that could really work is "Kill everything before it has a chance to counterattack."

This is based off of my personal experience with this type of thing, though, and i could be completely wrong when we start fighting.

Nihere walked into the barracks, and was surprised to find only three others joining him. He'd figured more would have joined, but the four Branded must be occupying everyone's mind. A man named Bradley led them to a room. Inside, predictably, was the captain. What was unexpected was the Mayor, and a woman who seems to have lived in a forest her whole life.

Nihere didn't comment. Surely this would be explained in due time. He listened as the captain of the guard explained the job to the five of them. Spears and Wands were the highest priority. Other things would be taken, but they would not be given as much pay for them. During the explanation, Nihere looked around, he tried to recall if he ever crossed paths with anyone in the room. He hadn't. He then referred to a non-present goblin who would assist them later. Nihere understood the mission clearly, and was ready to leave at a moment's notice.

He then was told of a secondary mission, concerning three of the four Branded that appeared. A question was asked, however, before any more details would be shared. 'Can you keep a secret?' Nihere had never needed to keep secrets before. He never did anything he needed to hide. He figured he could keep one if necessary, though. "Yes." He responded, after a short time.

If you would be so kind, please run through a few basic scenarios of attacking. Could you do one non-magic arrow for Nihere, and then one modified by a damage boosting augment? I think i understand what you're saying, but i'd like to see it in an example.

Nihere had just realized he needed to make one more stop before visiting the guard. He stopped in front of a medium sized stall that sold potions. "Can i help you?" Asked a young woman inside. There were few people Nihere didn't know by name, and this woman was one of them. She was roughly a head shorter than Nihere, with brown hair extending to her shoulders, and a pair of green eyes.

"I'd like two lesser healing potions, and two lesser potions of focus. And your name, if you don't mind." He responded, holding out his hand. "I'm Nihere."

The woman turned around almost immedietly. "I'm afraid i only have one of each. Many people came to buy yesterday, and I haven't had time to brew more. I hope that's alright with you." She reached for the potions he asked for and placed them on the counter. "Twenty silver each."

Nihere didn't try to her her name after that. She was completely ignoring his request, and someone like this would take more than a quick visit to get anything out of. So, he nodded at what she said, and counted out the money for her.

    (-40 Silver)

Once it was paid for, Nihere took the potions and placed them carefully in his backpack. He then thanked the woman before leaving. He swiftly approached the barracks, and saw a moderate crowd gathered. The doors opened, though, before it got much bigger. Nihere shuffled in with the crowd, unsure of exactly what would happen. He simply waited until he got an indicator of some sort.

Ki'than and Sontar waited a few moments longer for questions, but it seemed that there were none. Sontar stepped forward and spoke. "Thank you all for choosing to join us. We depart tomorrow at dawn southward, to the nearby forest. Buy supplies, or whatever you think necessary for this trip, and sleep well. Good luck. To all of us. We're going to need it." With that, the duo made their way back into the village.

"We should find a place to sleep." Ki'than said.

"The inn is full. We'll need to find some comfortable grass." Sontar responded.

Ki'than groaned. "After three days, i was looking forward to a real bed. Oh well, I guess. Let's sleep in shifts to make sure nobody robs us."

"Care to spar before we turn in?"

"Not tonight. I need to think more of how we're going to go about our journey."

"Alright. You're taking the first watch, then?" Sontar asked.

Ki'than nodded. "I'll wake you at midnight."

Sontar nodded back. They traveled a short distance out of the village, gathering some stones and sticks before sitting down and starting a fire. As the elf slept, Ki'than's mind wandered, unsure of what will come.

Ki'than immediately turned his attention to the t'kal. He was glad for a distraction from the slightly frustrating Ztaari. "I don't think we should kill them then and there, if that's what you're thinking of. I believe we should simply defend ourselves. If they attack us, we fight back- but only to disarm and disable. I do not condone taking life unnecessarily." After he finished talking, he scanned his eyes over the eight before him once again. However, he did avoid the eyes of the other ztaari.

This time, Ki'than responded. "I am giving us this evening to gather supplies, and to rest. Like we have said, the journey will be long and difficult. We want you to be sure you're fully ready." Ki'than was truly impressed by how well the ztaari fought for his age, but his patience for him was thin. "Would you run recklessly at every opportunity that presented itself? No. If you go unprepared, you..." His voice trailed off a moment, thinking back to the incident when he was younger. "You may as well have a death wish."

Nihere awoke once again and stretched his arms. In his room that he called home once again, he re-lit the candle just as he did yesterday. Today, we was a little less swift in his preparations to leave. After he put on his cloak and quiver, he took a backpack from the side of his desk and put his money with a few books in the bag. One was a fictional adventure novel, another the book about the Branded he was reading the other day, and the final book was a book on advanced offensive magics. He also pocketed his dragon figurine he got from Ana. Lastly, his longbow.

Once he was packed, he left. He made his way to the market. Despite it being early, there were a few vendors open, one of them being a weapons shop. Nihere approached. The owner, Jack, recognized the blue and orange robe immedietly and smiled. "Nihere! Its been awhile! How are things?" He held out his hand, and Nihere shook it.

"Its been good enough. I guess I can't complain. What about you?"

"Same old, same old. What can I do ya for?"

"I need a few more arrows. Fifteen, I think, should do me."

"Oh, fifteen? But I see plenty in your quiver."

"I plan on going to the Conglomerate."

"Ha! Finally. How long has it been since you got here, a year?" Jack listened, but began gathering arrows together.

"Ten months, I think. Maybe more."

"A typical Branded would've already seen the Conglomerate thrice at this point! Any reason for right now?"

"The captain of the guard is searching for supplies, figured i'd help out."

Jack laughed. "Oh, it just HAD to be that." He began wrapping the middle of the arrow shafts in a ribbon-like string.

    "I'm sorry?"

"Nothing, it's just everything you do seems to be to help someone else out. Don't take me wrong, but you need to think selfishly sometime."

This time, Nihere laughed. "I suppose I don't know how. I get so much satisfaction from helping, that I forgot the pleasures of self-indulgence."

"Well, if you want to remember, tell me, and i'll show you." Jack lifted the arrow bundle onto the counter. "Alright, here you are."

"Thanks. Have a good day!" Nihere took the bundle and left money on the counter, waving as he left. Time to visit the captain, he thought.

(+15 arrows, -X Money. I am unsure of how much i would pay for 15 arrows.)

Sontar answered this question. "I'm afraid that's a bridge we'll cross once we get there. I do not know if you can end a Pact between you and an Entity. If we can, then we can simply defeat the beast and be done with it. If not, then..." Sontar trailed off. "Then we'll think of something. And your question does bring up a good point- This may be an irreversible decision. Know that before we leave tomorrow."

Sontar stood back and observed the crowd- they all seemed apprehensive to some degree. That was understandable. All he could hope for was that they would be calmed at the end of this, enough to decide to join him and Ki'than.

This application is very well written. However, we are well underway in the IC thread. It will be difficult to bring you in considering our present situation. Unless you are very adamant on joining this RP, i strongly suggest you don't. However, if you have a plan to get your character into the group, you can consider yourself accepted.

Ki'than and Sontar arrived at the northern edge of the village when the sun was a half hour away from setting. They had found one person already waiting for them, that Ki'than recognized as the ztaari he encountered in the tavern. He told the ztaari to wait for everyone else. The three of them stood as more people arrived- A t'kal and a dwarf, an elf, a naga and a human, and lastly, a half-elf with a human. Ki'than almost smiled. The size of the party meant a greater likelihood of success, considering their diverse skill set.

Ki'than stepped forward. He spoke in a voice loud enough to be heard, but low enough so that nobody other than the group would hear accidentally. "Thank you for choosing to join us. I am Ki'than, and this is Sontar." Ki'than waved a hand at the elf to his side. "You all know why we have gathered, so i won't remind you. But i will remind you of this- the journey we will leave on will be long. The danger will be great. If any of you have any inkling at all of staying behind, I suggest you leave now."

Sontar spoke up after that. "Our current plan is to leave at dawn tomorrow into the wilderness. Entities are illegal, so no entities would be in cities or towns. It makes sense then, to search the unknown areas. Eventually, we will find an Entity willing to make a Pact with one or some of us. But we cannot stop until all of us have Pacts. Even if the power we obtain is greater than that of the Mages, i do not want to risk anything. "Marinta Suraksitam" is a saying among my people, which translates roughly to "More is safe". It is meant to signify that unity and co-operation lead to better results than distrust and selfishness. If we work together and fight together, then i am sure that the Stone Beast in the city will be defeated."

"If any of you have any questions, now would be the time." Ki'than said. He looked out at everyone, sizing them up. They all have experience behind them, and they would all contribute well in some way. He awaited a response to his question.

Nihere was getting a bit tired. After he finished his explanation of the town to Dein, it was very close to sunset. "Really, think about it, Dein." Nihere told him one last time. "Get some rest, and talk to the others once they recover."

"Alright. Thank you for talking with me." Dein responded.

Nihere smiled and nodded. He ran into a nurse on his way out, who stopped him. "The town crier told everyone about the Branded, and i think you might want to know- the captain of the guards is looking for volunteers to journey to the Conglomerate to get more supplies, weapons, et cetera."

"Thanks." Nihere said. "Dont tell the branded, though. They need time to adjust."

    "Of course."

With that, Nihere left the hospital and made his way home. He had planned on stopping by the barracks tomorrow. He hadn't been to the Conglomerate yet, and he felt like putting his battle skills to the test. He also wanted to explore the Conglomerate, like most other Branded, so this opportunity was the perfect time.

Dein had left and come back, just now realizing that he knows nothing about the Wrinkle. "Its alright. I know the general layout of where everything is here." Nihere then slowly began explaining generally where things were, being sure that Dein at least mostly understood what he was told. He told Dein about the Inn first, and then the well he came up from. He worked his way outwards from there.

After a short time, a nurse came in. She asked if Nihere knew a mage named Peter. Nihere thought a moment. "...I might have met him once, but i dont recall them. Tell them sorry, but no. And," Nihere said, as the nurse turned to leave. "I think it would be okay to tell the public one of them is awake now." Nihere returned to his explanation of the Wrinkle as the nurse left.

Ki'than and Sontar had a somewhat tough journey. It soon dawned on the Z'taari that he had dropped his sword, and now he was unequipped, since he left his weapons in the ruins. Sontar was kind enough to offer him money enough to buy a new weapon once they arrived at the village. During the three days, the two foraged for herbs and insects enough to feed the two of them. They slept in shifts in order to be awake if any monsters came by.

As they traveled, the two got to learn more about each other- or rather, Ki'than got to learn about Sontar and lied about himself. He made himself seem like an extraordinary warrior, far beyond what he really was. Sontar was more humble. He was a young man by elven years- close to 80, but roughly 21 in Human years of development. His superior time on the planet means that he has a more diverse set of skills and a greater general knowledge, but he has mostly ignored his skills in battle. As it turns out, his parents had forced him to participate in the tournament.

After three days' travel, the two arrived at the village. There was already a large amount of visitors that had fled the tournament. Ki'than and Sontar quickly made it to the resident blacksmith and found he had only a few daggers in stock. Ki'than purchased two, one slightly larger then the other, promising to repay Sontar for his lent money.

Soon after, Ki'than wandered to the edge of the village and looked back at the city. He could see smoke arising. He tightened his grip over one dagger, growing angry and frustrated. There was no way he could go back now, but the only portal from the Human kingdom to the Z'taari one was in the capitol. It was now either destroyed or being besieged- and either meant that access to any portal would be near impossible. He turned from the sight before he became too angry and rash, and caught Sontar looking back as well, on the verge of tears.

"...Something the matter?" Ki'than said it more as a statement than as a question.

"...My mother got sick, and had to stay in the city. I should've gone back for her..." Sontar held a hand to his forehead. Ki'than had heard that elves often do that to try and calm themselves. "And it would take nearly forty years to get back to my homeland on foot. So for the moment... im stuck here."

"...I am too. It would take roughly thirty to get to my home from here. If we want to get there, we have to defeat or destroy that.... thing." Ki'than almost threw his arm out to the city to reference the giant beast.

"I saw some of the mages fighting that thing as it went to the city. They were doing nothing. It wouldnt slow down, flinch, anything. Nothing damaged it. We need more power than even the mages have to take it on. And that simply doesnt seem possible....... unless..."

Ki'than almost flinched once he realized what Sontar was thinking. "You can't be serious. Its illegal, we could be put to death!"

"I doubt they would want to if we save the capitol city." Sontar replied. "We have to find an Entity, and make a Pact."

"...Even if we do, and that is a huge if, we would need far more than just two people. The mages were having trouble, despite there being dozens at the ready in the city."

"Well, we'll just have to find a few people who would be willing to do the same as us."

"You're crazy.... And I kind of respect you for it." Ki'than said. "Let's ask around, but be discreet, and very careful. Lets meet up here by sundown with anybody we find. And let's also listen for anything about that beast, that... Stone Beast."
