I love you mod, thank you so much for making this!
Will you update this to 1.2_01 anytime soon? And again, thank you!

    This works fine with 1.2_01.

I've got a little problem reverting back to the old system. When I use the revert tool, can I keep all the changes I made after I installed mcregion? Or do I lose them all after reverting?
I want to delete some chunks on my map because of the recent update, but the chunk deleter doesn't load the parts of the map where you have been while mcregion was installed. Corrent me if I'm wrong though.

Yes. This series of steps should work fine:

    1) Play without McRegion for a while.
    2) Install McRegion.
    3) Play with McRegion for a while.
    4) Use RegionTool unpack to convert regions into chunks.
    5) Modify chunks with MCEDit/other tools.
    6) Use RegionTool pack to convert chunks into regions.
    7) Continue playing.

FPS increase from mid 30 to mid 150

What kind of CPU/GPU do you have? I'm not sure how these changes would cause such a huge performance improvement.

Optimine should work fine with 1.2_01, other than missing some expensive empty-chunk checking. As an aside, can someone who has been getting empty chunk errors tell me a bit more about when you get them (singleplayer/multiplayer) and what graphics card you have?

Hum... is there some know bug with this and waterfalls? they look kinda weird atm and this is the only mod I'm using. (and only happens with it installed)

There is a link with some images: http://img714.imageshack.us/g/20110114032149.png/

I looked into it, and this happens on vanilla as well. Sorry, but not my bug. :smile.gif:

    Version 2 is out! http://mod.ifies.com/f/110113_Optimine_1.2v2.zip

    New features:

Better Tesselation: Modified for speed. TNT explosions no longer cause clients to have horrible lag, and everything in general should feel faster.
Error handling: Don't go to a black screen when there's an OpenGL error. Print a decent error message to the command line instead.

Hey Scaevolus I was considering trying out this mod and had a few questions about the mod and one concern.

    1) My main question would be would I notice still a performance boost when it came to things like forced world-save? Before you say yes what if my whole world is done via ramdrive? I was not sure if I would get the impact or not if I was using ramdrive to start with.

    2) If all the map and such data are smaller and there is a client side mod would this mean packets sent to the client are also a lot smaller? I'm really confused why there needs to be a client side mod for this as I thought be just server side.

    3) Notch we know is working on a system in the future and was wondering is he pretty much doing this way or something different? Would you be providing a converter any chance or do you have one already to go back to old format? I worry what would happen if you died today haha :smile.gif:

So after these questions my server is over 1,000,000 blocks and takes almost 4 gigs of ramdrive space. I was wondering would you recommend this for a Long term server that has been running for a couple months? We have usually 50 online at all times but I don't want to jump to something that might risk losing almost 100,000 hours of players work put into our server.

    Thanks,
    Kane Hart

    1) Save-all is faster if you're writing to a hard drive. If you're using a Ramdisk, there shouldn't be any difference-- but copying files to physical storage will be faster.

    2) The packets don't change. The only thing this changes is the storage format on the hard drive. The client mod is so people playing single-player can experience the same benefits.

    3) We don't know much about the new save file format. Notch has said it's going to be a single file, but the performance for that would be horrible. I already have a converter for both converting to the McRegion format and converting back to the old format, so compatibility shouldn't be an issue.

McRegion for servers is stable and safe-- I haven't had any complaints about data loss, and a lot of people are using it. :-) You have backups though, right? Again, I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make if you already have everything in a RAMdisk-- probably not much. McRegion files are also incompatible with all the mapping tools currently available.

But it lets me start a NEW world just fine. I hate having to start my huge project over from scratch.

Did you have any mods running? This is the kind of error you get if you were using a mod that added/changed block IDs.

0_0 According to the wikia Notch combined this mod with the update, is this true?

No. Only FastRender was included, which is only one part of this mod.

And yes I was using MCregion, MrM pointed out that might be the problem also. Does this mean that if I want to continue this save, I'll always have to have MCRegion or it'll revert to before I had McRegion installed?

You can use RegionTool to convert your saves from one format to the other.

I have no idea what the hell is happening, but I'm mad.

I worked on my house for like 2 hours this morning, finishing the roof and other stuff, and I backed up my world prior to patching with this optiminer and BL / BG. So I load up the mods, patch succesfully, load my world, and it reverts to a previous version. This happened with the patch earlier, (hence me spending 2 hours finishing my house), but I thought it wouldn't happen again. It's weird because even with the backed-up save, nothing changes. I'm kinda pissed, but also kind of happy (My mines got sent back a bit earlier)

Does this make sense to you? I'm not sure if I'm rambling or what.
    Trying to simplify it...

    1. Patched to 1.2
    2. World reverted to a previous version
    3. Re-did work
    4. Patched MrM mods and Optiminer (Optiminer first)
    5. World Reverted to the save BEFORE updating to 1.2

Any ideas about what's going on?

Are/were you using McRegion? Neither MrM's mod nor Optiminer should have any effect on saving.

Yes, if you install BL/BG *after* Optimine.
