    1. Age: 17

    2. IGN: Saml779

    3. Timezone: EST (GMT-5:00)

    4. Skype: sam.lowenstein

    5. Position: Lore

    6. Experience for your position. (1-10): This numerical system is awfully vague. What does 1 represent? What does 10 represent? I'd say I've had a lot of experience writing lore when compared to, say, most other people close to my age who are interested in applying for this or similar positions, but very little next to a professional novelist.

    7. If builder, please provide screenshots here. If other position,
    please try to provide evidence. If youtuber, how many subscribers?: N/A

    8. Experience with plugins: Rather poor, to be honest, but I'm not sure how relevant that will be.

    9. Why do you want the position you are applying for?: I enjoy writing (and fancy myself as rather good at it). Your server seems to have potential and an interesting concept, and I think it would be great to be a part of it.

    10. What can you contribute to the project?: I can provide your server with interesting, immersive, and professional-looking lore that will draw in new players and keep old ones involved. I can help design anything from back-stories to in-game events that will hold your audience's attention. Other servers for which I have written have praised my writing highly, and I doubt you'll be disappointed with what I can create for you. If you'd like writing samples from my past experiences, just let me know by Skype or PM.

    11. How much time can you contribute each day? I can contribute a couple hours at any point during most days, if necessary.

    12. How's your day been so far? :) Not gonna lie, it hasn't exactly been wonderful. But thanks for asking, anyway.

    P. S. It might be wise to create a new thread for this project to let people browsing the forum know that it's still alive and well. When I first saw this thread, I thought, "Oh, it's over a year old. It must be dead now." Or, perhaps, not everyone is as dumb as I am.

    Grammar shouldn't have to be an instruction.. It's common sense... If someone sends in a poorly written application, they wont get far.

    It shouldn't, but unfortunately, I think it does.

    This is an awesome guide! If only the eight-year old "HEad-admin" application spammers would read it...

    Also, maybe a Grammar/Spelling Key Point would be instructive.

    Hey all- I have an important announcement to make. Unfortunately, I am going to have to delay the server for about a week. My grandfather was hospitalized today and is very sick. My grandmother is incapable of walking without assistance, and I need to be there for both of them right now. On top of that all, I have a major test in school coming up this Friday that counts for 40% of my quarter grade in that subject. I will return in about a week's time and resume work on the server. Thank you for your understanding, and I apologize for this.

    I hope everything goes well for you and your family!

    Why did you choose us?: Looks interesting.

    Skype Name (Optional for Group Chat): sam.lowenstein

    IC:

    ((I’d like to start by saying that I have no idea whether this type of character is permissible. If it isn’t, I would be happy to draft a new character.))

    Name: Liu Cheng

    Age: 43

    Gender: Male

    Ethnicity: Chinese

    Place of Birth: Shanghai

    Defining characteristics and physical appearance: A particularly average appearance, would appear to the average Caucasian as “just another Asian.”

    Strengths and Weaknesses: Generally calm and collected, slow to anger, but also rather arrogant. Reasonably stealthy, but with no training in physical violence of any kind. Good with electronics.

    Does your character own property on the ship? If so, what kind: He owns an old-fashioned radio set and little else.

    Background Story (At least two quality paragraphs): Growing up in the aftermath of the apocalypse, Cheng was always fascinated by electronics. Before he was eight, he had built a working radio set from salvaged parts. It was for this reason that the Chinese government found him in the first place. China was not the most communicative of nations even before the cataclysm, and only descended further into isolationism in its wake. However, there remained those in the upper echelons of government who saw the so-called “apocalypse” as an opportunity, an opportunity for China to take its rightful place once more as foremost of the great civilizations of the world.

    Cheng owes a lot to the Chinese government. One day he was living in poverty, the next receiving the education he had always wanted. He was, if far from wealthy, at least as far from starvation, a fate he could not have been certain to avoid had his circumstances not changed so abruptly. What the government wanted in return was comparatively little: his lifelong service. Cheng was all too happy to agree (not that he would have had much of a choice anyway).

    Cheng has spent many years in the government’s employ, mainly in the former United States, once China’s most formidable enemy. However, as the absurdity of the notion that America could ever again be a threat to China’s aspirations becomes increasingly clear, Cheng has been assigned to a new, rising power in the west: Greenland. Cheng boarded the Defiance upon its most recent arrival in China. He serves there now as a radio operator (a position that the Chinese government ensured was “serendipitously” vacant by the time he boarded), scanning various frequencies in search of survivors. He has, however, another task: to find out everything he can about Greenland and report back to his superiors, and, if ordered, be prepared to sabotage Greenlandic operations aboard the vessel.

    ((Hi, me again. You may have received the impression over the last three paragraphs that I intend for my character to be of earth-shattering importance aboard the Defiance. This is not so. If accepted, I will play him merely as a member of the ship’s crew who also happens to go looking around in places where he shouldn’t (potentially ending up in trouble with the officers). If it should be your decision that China begins taking overt action against Greenland, then yes, I would be glad for my character to play a role in such action. I do not, however, intend to powergame/god-mod him into dictating the actions of the Chinese government or assigning himself “missions” to blow up the Defiance. I hope that clears up any misunderstandings I may have inadvertently provoked.))

    Rp Scenario (Two paragraphs, any scenario you'd like) “Oy, what do you think you’re doing down there?”

    The voice pierces Cheng’s contemplation like a bullet and he jerks as if hit by one. Calm down, he thinks. It’s just another flunky. Assume the role of the confused Asian and everything will be all right. He forces himself to stop shaking and turns around with a perplexed expression on his face. Then his mouth drops open as he recognizes the form of the captain standing above him. Cheng regains his composure and a blank, deliberately neutral countenance. “Yes, Captain?” he says in slightly accented English.

    The captain raises an eyebrow at Liu’s curious facial transformation and repeats, “What are you doing down here? This is the nuclear generator. It’s off-limits to any non-engineering personnel.”

    Cheng silently curses himself. Did you really think that was a bomb? You’re going to have to try harder than that if you want to please Xiao. He stutters, “I-I-I must have…t-taken a wrong turn, sir. Sorry, sir. Won’t happen again, sir.” He rushes past the bemused Captain on his way out, his face turning a bright red. Less than a week on board and already you’re raising suspicions. You really will have to try harder.

    ((Anyway, thank you for reading my application. I hope to hear from you soon.))

    Working Mic?: Yup

    Can you use Skype/Teamspeak?: Yup

    About Yourself: That’s…awfully broad. I like writing, Minecraft, RP, and RPG’s.

    What do you plan to accomplish working for this server? I hope to have a chance to write for an audience and contribute to the server.
    What can you provide to the team? I can provide a professional writing style and high-quality material.

    Why do you want to join our team? It looks like a fun opportunity to test and refine my skills and be part of a larger project with other people.

    Position: Lore Writer

    What's your expertise in writing? (Narratives, Fantasy, Realism, Etc.) I’ve written a bit of everything, I suppose, but recently, mostly fantasy.

    What have you written in the past? I’ve been writing for other MC servers recently.

    Do you have any examples of your previous work? (If not, write us a paragraph of a random dungeon, include setting, lore, etc.) Here’s an excerpt from one of the last pieces of lore I wrote:

    (A bit of background: this poem belongs to an ancient society of cryophilic creatures. They revere winter and everything associated with the season. The poem is written in a slightly archaic style to convey its age.)

    The Dance of Winter

    (Can be sung/chanted together, or with the first and third lines of each stanza read by only one man)

    (Slow and dark)

    Every day the air is colder;
    All the leaves are gone.
    Every night the wolves grow bolder;
    Winter comes anon.

    (Picking up speed and light)

    Every day the sun sets quickly;
    Longer stays the moon.
    Every night the snow falls thickly;
    Winter’s coming soon.

    (Brightly and faster still)

    Winter rapidly approaches;
    We mere mortals have no choice.
    Wind picks up and frost encroaches;
    Winter’s coming, let’s rejoice!

    (Dance begins)

    What is your favorite writing piece or author? This is an awfully difficult question. I’ve read far too many authors and books that I loved to give you a complete answer. Off the top of my head, however, I suppose I’d say Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. He makes a powerful, moving point with impressive concision.

    Give us a short description of a semi-original Race you would create. I notice your server has a rather draconic theme. In that spirit, I present to you the drakanai. Humanoids distantly related to dragons, the drakanai have mostly human facial features, except for their lack of hair. Spines run along their backs all the way to their scalps, where they spread out into scaly crests. The other feature that distinguishes the drakan from the human is its wings. Drakanai have an impressive wingspan, and in fact were mistaken for angels upon their first meeting with humans. However, they soon proved decisively that this first impression was a grave mistake. The drakanai are a warlike race and in fact almost overran all of human civilization before they were driven back. Today, drakanai live on the fringes of society, waiting for their chance to rise up once more.

    Position you are applying for: Lore Writer

    Age: 16

    First Name: Sam

    Time Zone (in relation to GMT): EST (-5:00)

    Sample of your writing (minimum six sentences): I’m not entirely sure what it is that you’re looking for here, but I will give you a writing sample from a different RP server for which I wrote some lore. If you’d prefer that I wrote something new from scratch, just tell me. I’d appreciate some sort of prompt or general topic about which to write, though.

    (A bit of background: this poem belongs to an ancient society of cryophilic creatures. They revere winter and everything associated with the season. The poem is written in a slightly archaic style to convey its age.)

    Why should we accept you: I can write in a professional manner, as I hope the above excerpt demonstrates. I use impeccable syntax and consistent style and am capable of writing on more or less any topic. For the most part, I can behave in a mature fashion and can adapt to meet any challenge with which I am faced. I happen to have a lot of free time at my disposal and so can work as much as is needed.

    Other: I think what I’ve written just about sums it up. I hope you consider my application.
