    >make only a wood pick, get enough stone to make stone tools immediately

cheers, I thought i was the only one who rushed stone tools. all the let's plays where they screw around with all wood everything for multiple episodes make me rage. also i would posit once I get a half chest of cobble I make a simple 16x16 single or double level darkfall xp grinder (at the top of the map) to get the levels for gear. it's faster xp than a single dungeon grinder.

posted a message on [CHALLENGE] Nuclear Apocalypse

this sounds like an awesome challenge, and very few of the many challenges appeal to me. for anyone who wants it to be more realistic or challenging, I would recommend the mystcraft mod. I won't explain the entirety of the mod, but you make books to create new custom or random dimensions. It would be easy to make a downloadable map that starts the player near a portal to a "post apocalyptic" wasteland, using these books. I found several dimensions with a poison sun/poison rain, with varying degrees of constant debuffs when outside (slowness I-III and/or weakness I-III and/or poison I-IV, and rarely nausea). I don't know how to make it safe only at night, as these debuffs are constant in every wasteland dimension I have found, but i'm sure there is a way. (also there is a difference between corrupted dimensions and wasteland dimensions as there are several types of corruption blocks that spread and you must find a wasteland dim. without the corruption. and there are ways to write custom dimension books to guarantee this outcome.) I use regen beacons and health pots to stay on the surface for extended periods. Anyway, just an idea for anyone looking for a bit more of a challenge. sorry if this is off topic.

posted a message on Tips on Mining Diamonds?

I used to branch mine for diamonds as high as level 14 back in early alpha. but having used minutor for various things throughout minecraft's rise, diamonds have seemed to get lower and lower with every update. I now start my branch mines at level 8 to make sure i'm in the middle of "diamond territory". also as previous posters have said, branch mining is the way to go. and if you don't want to spend lots of time branch mining, explore every deep cave you find or find large caves from the surface and cave downwards. also, I usually make sure to check lava pools at the bottom of the map, many diamonds are exposed on the walls of the cave below the lava's surface, so I chug an extended fire resistance potion and go lava diving to check the edges of the lava caves (just make sure to mine behind the diamond and don't mine it while you're still in the lava).

posted a message on Poll: What versions do you play?

pc 90%, xbox 360 10%, the xbox version is invaluable for playing with friends with instant split screen and automatic server hosting. and with pc, well... better fps, infinite maps, free skins and texturepacks, and....MODS!

posted a message on Do you still play Beta Versions?

sometimes i miss the old boat elevators. or making a deathpit through bedrock with tilled dirt. or the old way of making minecraft boosters. or the far-lands. or patchwork alpha trees, etc.. the only reason i would see myself going to play beta or alpha versions for however long would be for these patched features or maybe the nostalgia feeling. i can't remember any other things i used to do that were patched out, but i'm sure there were more.

posted a message on Farms to build

i also like farms. there are many you can fully automate, but there are some you cannot. i don't have links (just google any you are interested in) but here are a few i usually make sure to build..

    -cactus autofarms are easy

-sugarcane autofarms with pistons are pretty easy

-cocoa bean semi-auto farms with pistons

    -watermelon/pumpkin autofarm with pistons

    -potato/carrot autofarms with villagers

-egg autofarms are easy to build (just need chickens and hoppers, and you can make it into an automatic chicken cooker as well)

-i'm sure there is a way to make a wheat farm full-auto, but i've found it too difficult to mess with over and over again so i just make semi-auto wheat farms with pistons and water.

-semi-auto nether wart farms with pistons

-automatic slime farm with water currents

-automatic darkfall mob grinders (there are many types of aggro mob grinders)

-automatic gold farms with mega portals and pistons/redstone timers (my favorite)

-automatic guardian farm with no redstone, just hoppers

-idk about automatic mushroom farms i stopped making them when they nerfed mushroom spreading but i'm sure someone has found a way to by now

    -automatic witch farms with pistons

-there's even a highly complex full-auto obsidian farm updated for 1.9+ using wither boss

-oh and i can't believe i forgot this but a full-auto iron golem farm is essential (idk if there are any that work past 1.8.9 though). i even made the iron trench on one of my worlds and it is insane, look it up on youtube (but i think it's outdated on 1.9+)

i'm sure i'm forgetting some but that's all i got off the top of my head.

posted a message on What is the purpose/goal in survival mode

idk about making it more difficult. perhaps after you get to end game you could come up with random challenges to do like do a caving run with only redstone torches and no armor, or take over and drain an ocean monument (which is necessary to do for a guardian farm anyway), or make a darkfall trap(that's big enough to spawn witches and jockeys) that drops mobs into an arena and survive for however long giving yourself worse armor and weapons in stages until you die. for me personally i like building and expanding an empire, the bigger it gets the more farms you have to maintain (especially if they have lots of redstone). I want to cover as much of the map in my buildings as possible. maybe try playing with the shaders to make it more difficult?, or have a friend join you who's role is to screw with you in small ways like having your own personal herobrine. just some suggestions.

posted a message on MINECRAFT COMING TO AN END? 2017 Updates Canceled

Honestly, i'm quite satisfied with how minecraft is right now. I think it's a very well rounded game and if they keep adding on to it and changing it they risk alienating much of their base supporters. I'm forever playing on 1.8.9 because of this, but that's not to say 1.9 and 1.10 are bad, i just don't prefer them over 1.8. even in 1.8.9, i can't really envision a time where i run out of things to do in Minecraft. Maybe what they should do are holiday events that aren't permanent, to attract new players, with no actual changes to the base game, but maybe seasonal gamemode/texture/challenges/sound/etc packs for free (kind of how they change chest skins and give mobs pumpkins on their heads but with more content). OR, if a large chunk of minecraft supporters aren't satisfied with the content in minecraft, unlike me, Mojang could take suggestions about the most wanted new features and compile it all into a massive final update.

posted a message on What have you done recently?

i'm building rapture in my largest world, so far all i have done is the lighthouse, the metro, and a few stories of a hotel. i have a long way to go.

idk if i posted correctly this is the first time posting an image and idk how to use spoilers

also good looking stuff you guys are more decorative than me.. and i've never built a piston elevator b/c that's so much work when i could just make a minecart or boat ladder (but i bet it is satisfying to use nonetheless) happy crafting everyone!

posted a message on best block for building house?

if you mean blocks that are easy to farm, i would say in general order of least to most durable, dirt, wood, sand->sandstone, netherrack->nether brick, cobble variants and polished versions, cobble->stone->stone bricks, and end stone. once i beat the dragon i start making a lot of my buildings out of end stone because of how durable it is. also once you get a good guardian farm, the prismarine blocks offer variety and good durability while looking nicer than most other blocks IMO. and if you want maximum safety, farming obsidian in the end isn't that bad once you get to late game and have an efficiency V pick and an ender chest (or look up the wither-powered obsidian farm if you want to farm obsidian at a massive rate, it was broken in 1.9 but there is another way shown off by youtuber maitredesblocs for 1.9 and 1.10).

even though it isnt a steam game, i added minecraft as a non steam game to my library (bottom left option), and it gives you the steam shift+tab overlay in game. pretty useful IMO.

i have been using http://chunkbase.com/apps/ for as long as it's existed pretty much. they have apps and finders for everything from slime chunks, villages, biomes, a custom superflat generator, etc. all you have to do is type your seed in or upload your .dat file and you're good to go! (and you don't have to download anything) cheers!

posted a message on Best Sword Enchantment?

imo sharpness IV, unbreaking III, looting III. and then fire aspect II and knockback II are good additions but i personally dont care for knockback. also if you are early game and are using the looting enchantment to farm ender pearls for the end, i would recommend not using fire aspect as it makes endermen teleport around and they often die in random places far away making the pearls hard to retrieve.

posted a message on Ironman Challenge Series: 404!

Hey guys, i played the 404 challenge way back when in alpha or beta (can't remember which) and i've been searching for a new seed to continue the challenge after the generation updates. I finally found a pretty large cave system (no digging one block of gravel to find the entrance though). The seed is cavearoonie The cave has several entrances, the one i would recommend using is at x:24 y:67 z:310. the connected caves themselves are about 350 x 200 blocks at my best estimate, but there may be more i missed. It has several dungeons connected, several ravines, plenty of lava and water, lots of ores, and it is heavily occupied by extremely rude creatures. The entrances are in a swamp biome, with reeds and a forest close by, so first day gathering should be great. there are even pumpkins within 200 blocks northwest, so if you prioritize pumpkins you can get those before you run into the darkness if you're quick about it. if you wanna give it a go, check it out and let me know about your experiences! i myself will be doing a let's play of the 404 challenge on this seed starting a few days-weeks from now. happy crafting, everyone! (p.s. i'm playing this in 1.8.9 just so you know, but you shouldnt have problems playing in 1.10).
