Thanks for the feedback guys! I've never played on a prison server, but I'll look into that.

I'm finally done! It only needs some last final touches.
Although there are no glass windows in the Presidio Modelo's current day state, I've read that each cell had a glass window separated from the prisoners by bars. I also went ahead and placed lights in each cell. In the real-life prison, lights were ALWAYS left on so that the prisoners never knew at what moments they were being watched by the guards.
I still haven't decided whether or not I want to try and place a villager in each of the cells and trap them behind iron bars. I'm a little worried that this might make the game lag. There are 230 cells, and in the RL prison, two people were regularly held in each cell.
The tower has been the hardest part of the build for me to get accurate. It looks quite a bit different, but I'm still okay with it.

Alright, I barely reached my deadline for this post, but here it is! So today I've finished the four other floors of the prison, as well as the roof (aside from the top canopy part).
Here are all five floors. This was by far the most boring and repetitive part of this whole build so far, but I'm pretty happy with it. One thing I've noticed is that my build looks a little taller than the real-life structure, even though its not nearly as wide. The proportion is a little off. Over all though, I think it be okay for my purposes.
So this is the roof, as well as the inner metal lining that seems to hold the real life structure together:
I'll probably finish the canopy and tower tomorrow, and then begin working on a YouTube video.

Nope, but I can learn if necessary.
I don't have one yet, but I can get one.
Your Time Zone:
How long can you work:
Probably around 15 to 20 hours a week, although maybe more. This will fluctuate somewhat.
Pics of builds you have made:
This is a small city with a fortress in the background:
Here are two sides of my biggest city (its still in the process of being built):
Have been builder on any server or network before ? if so how many servers and what did you make
Why do you want to be a part of our build team ? Please explain in much detail as possible
I've been playing single-player survival minecraft for about half a year now, and want to play socially. Furthermore, I love building towns and cities. Since that's what you're planning to do, I think that I could be a good builder for your server. I'm also in the process of creating a Minecraft blog and youtube channel, so I want to get more involved in the MC community.
Do you work good on teams ?
I haven't played Minecraft on teams, but I like people
Anything else we should know about you ?Nah

Some more progress has been made. I've finished skirting around the outside bottom of the structure, the first floor of prison cells, and the first two levels of main staircases.
So this is a view of the first floor of cells from the inside of the structure. Because of the curves, a hypothetical watchman wouldn't be able to see every bit of each room from the tower, but the actual structure has this same problem.
This is the main staircase, with a photo of the the real world staircase below it. I know that the photo doesn't have railing, but some of the other structures still do. I think that when it was originally built, that all of the structures had railing, and that now they have just deteriorated. Nonetheless, I think that the Minecraft structure still captures the spirit of Panopticism, which is the main goal of this build.
Lastly, here's a screenshot from the outside of the prison, showing the windows and the new skirting.
I'll probably do the next four rows of cells next all together. I'll probably work on and upload that tomorrow if possible.

Yeah, it kind of looks like a square with curved edges right now I might try to extend some of the corners today when I start working on the windows as long as it doesn't mess up the whole build.

I've now completed the railing of the first floor, the main gate area, and two stairways that lead to the first floor.
My stairs are smaller than the prison's real-world stairs, but then again, just about everything is smaller in this build since in reality its such a massive structure. I have also added railing all around the first floor balcony, which required me to build the walls inward so that I would have both a walking path and the railing.
This is the main outside gate. I don't know what the two structures on both sides of the gate were used for, but I'm just trying to include every part of the structure. Later, I'll be adding some kind of skirting, as well as the indents that can be seen in the real photo.
Next, I'll be completing the first story of prison cells. I'm sure this will be kind of difficult given that a lot of the windows will be on a curve. I'll most likely finish and get that posted by tomorrow. Again, if you have any tips on how to make my Minecraft build look more similar to the real version, please let me know.

I am opening this thread to document my building of the Cuban Presidio Modelo Prison, which looks like this:
I am attempting to build just one of these circular prison complexes. As I build, I'll upload my progress onto this forum, as well as onto my own blog which I am currently in the process of creating. When I'm completely finished with the build, I want to create my first YouTube video. In the video I plan to give a tour of the building and to explain the history behind the real world structure, as well as the social theory behind its architecture. For a short explanation if anyone is interested, this prison was created according to a theory known as Panopticism, which you can read about here. Basically, the point of Panopticism was to create a structure which allowed for easy surveillance of large amounts of people with very little staff. Standing in the watchtower, one guard can watch hundreds of prisoners.
This is my first attempt to mimic a real life structure in Minecraft and I know that I'm not going to get it perfect. If anyone has any tips on how I can improve the build, they would be greatly appreciated. I'm working on this build in my main survival world, but with creative mode on. I attempted to start this with survival settings, but gathering enough clay to make the required blocks was taking forever. This is what I've done so far:
This is the basic structure of my build:
The prison cells will be within the two out-most walls. The middle circle is the base for my tower. Here's another screenshot, except from a ground level:
Here I have already begun to take out a layer of dirt in order to place a floor.I next placed a floor of grey clay blocks (sorry about it being night-time):Since the floor looked a little clean and monotonous compared to photos of the real prison, I next placed patched of grey and black wool to make it look dirty. This is accurate given that the real-world pirson has been abandoned for over forty years now. Sorry, it was completely dark in-game when I took this screenshot (hence the endermen):
That's what I have so far. I'll be updating this post as I build more. Let me know what you think or if you have any tips to better finish the build.
Feb 27, 2015So, last night I was playing on my hardcore world. I was driving a boat around an island area, when suddenly the boat broke apart and I was instantly killed. The game said that I had died from falling. I had full diamond armor and full health, so I don't know how I died from falling, especially since I was in the middle of the sea where there was no land and no squid mobs. I was kind of shocked.Posted in: Survival Mode
Is there an explanation of how this happened, something I could have avoided, or was this just a bug?
And if it was a bug, is there any way for me to save my world so that I don't lose all my stuff? I've always accepted my hardcore deaths in past games, but I don't want to lose all of my progress because of a bug that was out of my control. I was just about to fight the enderdragon, so it would suck to have to start all over.
Thanks for any help you guys may be able to provide.
BTW: I was paying on version 1.8.1.
