I'm gonna stay out of the cache and Ghz parts, I know nothing about them. But I do know alot of other things about this, for my age. Also, what would you recommend for a GPU upgrade in the future. Not super expensive, but i'm willing to splurge.

I'd recommend some GTX 560tis in a 4-way SLI, if your build is trying to accomplish what I think it is.

Does anyone know exactly how optifine increases fps? Does it allow minecraft to take advantage of multi core?

From what I understand (not much), it lets minecraft use multiple threads and optimizes the code to be less demanding on your resources

Here, pretty much the best you can get with that money. Good, quality components and heck of a lot of power for a small budget and size computer. That i3 is a lot faster in most cases than the AMD APU's (suggested in above post), especially in gaming. And the 7770 is a very good gpu, again a lot better than the ones in those APU's. If he wishes, this rig can play even BF3 on med settings easily. 7$ over budget, but if it is too much for him, downgrade the gpu to 7750. It would still be a very good computer.

Hiya. My friend is a pretty big gamer, and he usually uses an old low-end toshiba to game, and he wants a more upgrade-friendly desktop build for around $500-$550. Thing is, he wants a tiny microATX build since he has to lug his current computer between places every few weeks. I tried to help him, but I'm just not fluent enough in computer building yet to be certain in my recommendation.

My thoughts were to keep power consumption to a minimum while still getting decent performance. He wants to play TF2 and a bunch of indie games (Binding of Issac, etc) on it. Nothing terribly demanding. I figured the stock cooler would work OK for this, since it's low-profile and we're not using insane overclocks here. I also figured the PSU was fine, since it's antec's 350w and it got good reviews on newegg, even if it's cutting it a tad close.

    Anyway, here's what I got: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/eJqO

My friend and I thank you.

I have some Sennheiser 280 HD's and they're pretty good. Really low frequency sounds can lead to crackling, but I think that's just my sound card. Otherwise they're really comfortable especially for long-term wearing (as long as your ears aren't huge)

I checked out a modular PSU, they look pretty nifty.

Would it be worth it to wait for the next tock for a more powerful CPU? Or are they incredibly pricey at launch?

posted a message on Build Topic (And a few questions)
    Hiya, Minecraft Forums!

I know this might be an odd first post, but I've been looking for a new build lately, 'cause my poor prebuilt Inspiron 530 just isn't cutting it anymore. I think I got it in 2007 or so, its rough specs are:

    Core 2 Duo E4600 @ 2.4Ghz
    2GB RAM (DDR2?)
    500GB HDD (SATA-2?)
    Aftermaket Radeon 4650

I've been doing a lot of HD recording and really hardcore video rendering (Tons of audio/video layers, it's taken me 3 hours to get a 2.5 minute video done and I can barely play it at 15FPS in preview with a window height of 32 pixels) and obviously my computer has been straining to get it all done. My budget is roughly $1000 and I've selected a few parts from pcpartpicker

    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dW3y

I know I've gone a bit overboard on the processor, but currently my CPU is flatlining at 100% while rendering video, and if any other programs are open, the process takes roughly 4x as long. I've also omitted an optical drive as I have a spare external one. I'm also planning on bringing over my old 500GB drive with all of my games and FRAPS and whatnot on it. Any thoughts on this build? How much faster would rendering go/How high of an FPS could I record at? Could I cut any corners on a part or am I getting a part that would drag the rest of my system down? Thanks. Also:

    - Later on, if I decided to get a second 7870, would it drastically increase my performance? Could I use a different card, like a 7850 or 7970?
    - Later on, if I wanted to get more RAM, would, say, 2 4GB sticks of DDR3 1600 Kingston RAM work? 1833 Crucial RAM?
    - Will future Intel processors be using the LGA1155 socket, to your knowledge? Future architectures?

Obviously, I'm interested in upgrading this thing later.

    Thanks a bunch <3
