you cant have custom modpacks, but aternos.org has a list of official modpacks you can play with, assuming you download the launchers before you join your server. also, it's FREE
um, i just started playing this, and i have one teensy tiny problem. I RAN OUT OF SAPLINGS WHEN I MADE THE MASHED SAPLINGS! WHAT DO I DO?! I DONT WANT TO RESTART, IM ON QUEST 11 ALREADY!
I'm working on a huge RPG map for Minecraft, fully planned out and well designed dungeons, boss mobs, everything. However, i need skilled builders and people who know their stuff when it comes to command blocks. i cant build the map alone, and i REALLY want it to be amazing, so if you are capable of building huge and awesome structures and setting up amazing stuff with redstone and command blocks, i need you to help me. the problem is, i can only have nine people help me due to the site i use to host the server. Also, you need to have patience. this isnt something that can be finished in a month, especially is we do more than just build the dungeons. i'll take structure suggestions from anyone who helps out, because any good RPG has more than just dungeons, especially if its free roam. if you are interested, Skype me. you can find me by searching "yosefu.erisu" that will be in parenthesis, while the actual name will be Joseph Ellis
Again, I warn against paying even a dime for a server. There is a website (that I actually use myself) to host a server: aternos, org Its free, allows a good number of players, has no lag (except maybe from your own computer), and allows certain modpacks. It isn't perfect, but it's free and easy to use. There are a few CraftBukkit items in their lists as well, so you play with those easily. However, they only allow a max of ten players from what i've seen.

Actually, it would be in your best interest to ignore any servers that require payment. I know a site that allows you to host your own server and play modpacks completely for free. However, you can only play a select group of modpacks from a list on the site, and you have to download a launcher to play on the server when using modpacks. Just go to aternos.org and make an account. The rest is pretty straight forward. The site occasionally has issues, from what I've seen myself while using it, and at times wont even load in order to let you start up your server. Regardless, a few occasional issues are acceptable, seeing as it's a free server you can play on at almost any time
The program I use for recording and the occasional streaming is called Open Broadcaster Software, or OBS for short. It's free and I know a few popular streamers that use it. You can find their site here.

Coincidentally, OBS was the last one I tried. Didn't work. I couldn't figure out how to get it to record Minecraft. Every time I tried to record, as soon as I clicked anything in the game, fullscreen or not, the recording would freeze then and there. Just imagine what it was like to record thirty minutes of gameplay, end the recording, go to view it before posting, and then find all it recorded was a still image with my voice and occasional sound effects in the background. Now, as for Advantage Servers... Is it free? If not, why are you even here? It clearly states that I want a FREE server. If it is free though, can I upload any number of individual mods I want? And most importantly, is there a stupid survey to take that requires me to be over 18 and own a car? (some other site I tried had that, really ticked me off)
you could host the server on your own computer assuming you have a decent enough computer to do so and the upload speed to match the number of people
Actually, that was the first thing i tried. I downloaded the server setup thing from minecraft.net, got it running and everything, but then I goofed. I couldn't join the server because I didn't change Server Resource Packs to Enabled instead of Prompt. I kept trying for almost an hour trying to figure out what was wrong (keep in mind i had only bought Minecraft for PC that day) and got no results. So, in a major act of stupidity, i deleted all the files from the server setup thing, and then two to three hours later found out what the problem was. I tried to redownload the server setup, but when I did, one of the crucial steps (specifically typing "stop") was impossible, as the console window would close immediately. So now I'm stuck with making a server or finding a website that does free hosting and allows you to upload individual mods. Unfortunately, the site I am currently using for a server doesn't work either, as it only allows modpacks, and you have to download the launchers and play through them in order to get on the server. So, unless you or anyone else tells me a way to fix the server setup without using a different computer, I'm going to need to use something else.
That's nice. But there are two problems. One, the main thing I want is info for how to get a server that i can UPLOAD mods onto, rather than only play specific modpacks. Two, FRAPS isn't free, and that's what I asked for as far as recording.
So, me and some friends are making a YouTube group, Minecraft being the game we would play the most. However, even with a group of funny guys, Vanilla gets boring for videos after a certain point. So, I've been looking for any possible way to get a server for just us that we can upload individual mods onto and make a custom "modpack" for videos. It would also be nice if we could add new mods onto the server at any time. If any one knows of a way we could do this, please, please, let me know. As a side note, a free program to record my screen for the purpose of making videos would be appreciated, if you know of one that works with Minecraft. I've tried alot already, and none have worked...
