https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-132674 "Weird cryptic language overrides almost all language selections"
If the game text looks like a scrambled mess, go back to Default and wait for your texture pack to update.
THIS!? THIS is why we want to take our time and get the pre-releases right. Last pre-release it was "swim ALL THE TIME underwater." Before that? "Swim on land."
I'm not faulting Mojang for having problems in the details. Well, I kinda wish they'd check for these things BEFORE throwing out pre-releases... but THIS is why I really want Mojang to nail this stuff so we don't end up with, "Oh look! I figured out how to use my recipe book to duplicate EVERYTHING as much as I want!" (MC 1.12.0).

We do NOT want to have a release until it is "fully baked". Otherwise, we get "13.1, 13.2, 13.7" and so on. The mini-updates are really rough on modders, and it adds question marks to map-makers, resource packs, and so on. The process takes as long as it takes.
Regarding Hypixel and multi-version servers... the Spigot Community server will *accept* connections from clients using 1.8.9 through 1.12.2, though it causes a crash, I suspect because the actual server isn't set up to properly handle the older connections. But I suspect WynnCraft, Hypixel, and others using Bungee will do just fine. The Spigot Community Server is up-to-date with 1.13-pre5. So if you really just "have to" use an older client, I don't think it will be a problem for those servers already catering to that community. They should be able to get the "Offical Spigot 1.13" quite soon after the Vanilla 1.13 release.
Which gets back to "it takes as long as it takes." When 1.13 releases, we get a release of Optifine, Spigot, Forge, LiteLoader, and so on. People updating their LiteLoader mods, MCEdit, Spigot Plugins, and so on will update to 1.13... and then be happy to call things "done". If there is a 1.13.1, 1.13.2, 1.13.43, it means all those making useful tools will have to confirm their stuff works as expected in the minor revision numbers... or perhaps not bother. But if they don't bother, there comes the question of, "OK, so you updated to 1.13, but does it work with 1.13.22?" We really *REALLY* DO NOT want this.
If it really matters to you that 1.13 is released "soon", you can play a huge part in getting Mojang there by helping to test the current pre-release for bugs and various problems. Right now, if you start swimming, you are STUCK swimming until you get out of the water. This makes it hell to build things under the ocean. https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-132252 "Player cannot leave the swimming animation underwater". You wouldn't want that in the release version. The release before that, clocks worked "backwards" going from sunset to sunrise. What surprises will 1.13-pre6 bring? Help us find out so it DOES NOT make it to the Officlal 1.13 release. Please. We really don't want 1.13.1. Let's get it right on 1.13.0. -

Pre5 is out. Just a quick note, because items were renamed, advancements get reset and cleared. Also, swimming is fixed for getting OUT OF the water, but sticks when you are under water so you can no longer stand. I'll repost bug links and in the correct "Pre5" thread when it is posted, if I can find any bug links. Or... beat me to it! I don't care so long as everyone knows and the bug links are posted. ;-)
EDIT: Bug links to be reposted when the Pre5 thread is started
https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-132252 "Player cannot leave the swimming animation underwater"Not currently listed as a bug, but "Renamed a lot of internal IDs to be more consistent with the game" noted on the Minecraft.net page is causing the server log to show advancements and recipes to be "ignored" which appears to be causing the advancement reset. Once advancements are reset, you can't bring 'em back. BACKUPS! BACKUPS! BACKUPS!
Anyone is free to repost this information of course when the Pre5 thread is started here. -

Swimming out of water is a known bug in this release. Now is a good time to check bugs.mojang.com, create an account, and help us find new bugs so we can have a polished release. I really hate the .1, .2, ... .7 minor releases. It really fouls up mods and plugins. Here's to getting it right the first time!

There will always be a place for Java coded mods. WorldEdit would be a real bear to code and slower than slow as a data pack. LiteLoader is the only real way to tweak the UI to show and do things not open in Vanilla. But to say 1.13 will break all mods like it is some surprise is disingenuous. This has been in the works for years.

Spigotmc.org's community server is on Pre1 snapshot, and World Edit, Essentials, other plugins are running on it. I saw notice here in the forums a LiteLoader mod announcing they are ready when LiteLoader 1.13 is released.
The upcoming changes were announced several years ago for modders. Spigot explicitly told devs to stop using item id's or their stuff will break. Now we are going from "will break" to "broken", no surprise there.
An API would be great. Even better if the API isn't unstable because of planned changes to the code under the hood. Data packs will be much easier to maintain than in game command block devices. Item group tagging, easier means to add new blocks, data driven world generation, the possibility of swapping out vanilla structures like village buildings for more appealing structures, even custom biomes may come in an update soon.
But I could see Mojang spending more time writing and then rewriting an API than getting the core changes in place so they wouldn't have to keep rewriting the API every new release.

I'm not sure there is an easy answer to the problem of "please don't destroy the new icebergs hunting for blue ice". However, data-packs can either make the compressed ice harder to craft, or not craftable at all. I'm still very partial to the "Extra Hard Mode" plugin of Spigot which pretty much eliminates most farms, but my wife and friends promised to eliminate me if I put that plugin on our server.
I'm quite pleased we have more access to the inner workings of the game with Advancements, Recipes (including Smelting), and .mcfunction calls. Anyway, I'm just checking in to see if there's screaming about any particular bugs before I upgrade my Snapshot server. -

Waiting for a release with custom world settings is an option. Some worlds built in custom that don't want to map wipe will be screwed otherwise

My understanding is that Mojang couldn't fit it to work with the current world generation PLUS new ocean biomes. Rather than drag the 1.13 release date into half-past forever (at least by player reconning), they agreed to *disable* custom world generation for now. I believe Mojang intends to allow for "data driven world generation" in a future release, perhaps 1.14 which would allow you to edit a .JSON and have it do "All The Things." Want new biomes? Edit the .JSON. Want new structures in those biomes? Edit the .JSON. Hate roofed forests? Edit those out in the .JSON. At least, I *think* that is what is intended, but delving into that would have us waiting even more for 1.13.
So... please be patient, because I think what is coming is going to be a WHOLE lot better than what we had to date on world generation. -

If you are playing *creative*, it doesn't matter in the least. Make what enchantment books you like. Or if you don't mind switching to creative and "getting by" JUST to play in the latest snapshot, that would actually be a good thing. Mojang would REALLY like people to find problems BEFORE they do another release. It is possible, perhaps even likely there are bugs in 18w22b or 18w22c that are NOT in the 18w22a I am running, but we won't find those on our server because we don't want to have the update destroy our existing books and villagers. Even so... SOMEONE needs to find those bugs not present in the version we are running. If you would be willing to do that, it would actually be a huge help to this whole process.
That said, while we were waiting for the ore generation bug fix, we agreed on two things: 1) We'll just creative mode iron ore to get by and have fun with the snapshot as it was, and 2) when the ore generation bug is fixed, we planned to do a map wipe. That's what we did, and everyone in our group was ok with that. Since you are playing solo, do what makes sense to you. But I'd much rather someone (hopefully you) kick the latest snapshot around and find problems before my server has to discover them when the Protection bug is fixed and we finally update the snapshot version. -

Make *SURE* you do a backup before you upgrade. 18w22b has a "don't do this upgrade" bug.
https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-130489 "All enchanted books change to protection when upgrading 18w21b to 18w22b"
We had a Mending villager become a Protection villager, Bows suddenly had Protection on them, books were turned to Protection, and so on. Not complaining, I reported the bug and I hope others seeing this will vote on it also. Just make VERY freakin' sure you make backups before messing with any Snapshots. And here's looking for a "c" snapshot this week before the weekend. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -

Such is life with Java sadly, anyone who tells you they have a bug free java program is either missinformed or lying
1) Every non-trivial program contains at least one bug.
2) Every non-trivial program can be simplified by at least one line of code.
The conclusion of the above two statements: Every non-trivial program can be simplified to one line of code, and it will contain a bug. -

I thought the above quotes were appropriate in this thread as coming directly from Helen Chiang as mentioned in the news in response to @Ayyds. This is not to discuss Switch here, but the PopSugar article mentioned above from an interview with Chiang is worth the read.

The server has to be Spigot running the BBOR plugin. If it isn't, no joy.

Until the, "I forgot where my bed is, but the POI remembers my bed is taken" bug is fixed.
0
Gnembon discusses this in detail with this villager breeder. Due to some bug, villagers lose track of their beds, but the POI (point-of-interest) system thinks the bed is still taken. The ONLY thing you can do is break the beds and put them back to reset the POI and allow villagers to reclaim the bed. This is not quite so big a deal in breeders, but it *kills* iron farms. Hopefully this is resolved in 1.15. I do not have a link to the bug report.
Iron Farm by Gnembon may also be useful.

Unfortunately I only Twitch when I'm having seizures. I suspect there is a forum for helping you do that since the Twitch App is explicitly made for mods.

That is an definitely an issue. Try downloading copy world from a recent season of Hermitcraft. All this beautiful "stuff"... going nowhere. Doing nothing. If it isn't in "use" somehow, even by NPC's, "somehow", it's pretty dead. Pretty to look at, it's "art", but nothing dynamic. No "life".
This is the LAST of a series of three. I think you would find Whitelight expresses the problem well. And if you need ideas or clarification, the Hive Mind is here for you.

Consider https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/mybrightness as a "drop-in" replacement for GammaBright, only using Fabric instead of LiteLoader. The LiteLoader project appears to be dead on 1.12, and for 1.14.4 the functionality of LiteLoader appears to be replaced by Fabric Mod. For details on getting up and running with Fabric, look for VoxelMap which made the switch from LiteLoader to Fabric for 1.14. A few other former "LiteLoader" mods have made this switch as well, but VoxelMap's guide is what I refer to. Once you have VoxelMap working, grab a copy from the MyBrightness link above.

I struggle with this issue on my server where we have players who want "tough" but not "too tough" of their battles, and "too much" is a line that seems to slide all over the place from time-to-time. Minecraft, as a game, is a "bring your own batteries" game. That is, the very best motivation to keep playing comes from within you. Some goal you wish to pursue, something you wish to accomplish. For me, I daydream of making some sort of town and castle with Vanilla Villagers that are actually "trapped", but done in such a way they appear free to move and do their "villager" thing, and have the town and castle actually feel alive.
is a mod that actually does this within the code, but since I'm playing 1.14, I have to "fake" what TangoTek actually accomplishes.
Another mod you might consider is https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/extra-hard-mode.19673/. Of course, you would *have* to run Spigot as a server, and learning how to do that might be interesting to learn. It *really* isn't that big a deal to set one up. Then you have a way to invite your friends to enjoy Extra Hard Mode *with* you. And EHM … well, a few friends might help a great deal. And I don't think you would be *bored* with it.
Or if you really want something that would give you hairy palms, check out "RLCraft" Mod. That one doesn't use Spigot, so just use Forge and learn to work with it. But... be prepared to die quite a bit. But you WILL NOT be "bored", just mostly dead trying to learn how to stay alive.

I think the current policy sucks, and I've voiced my opinion about it on Twitter. Again, you really want to be a part of the ongoing conversation *there*, and please be kind and patient particularly with the Devs about it. I believe Pearson actually *agrees* with us, to some extent, but that is just my impression. But if a change is to be made, Pearson has to *sell* the change to his bosses. *DO NOT* annoy Pearson into writing this discussion off, please. But we are talking about this policy, and it would be really good to have you in on that discussion... ON TWITTER.

It could all be, but since I'm capable of running my own servers Realms has become far less appealing. "Transparency" is a hard thing, particularly *IF* it's a bug issue and not an actual hard limit they won't disclose. AND there are differences (as well as different bugs) between MCJE and MCBE that won't help the matter.

Since you said, Switch, you can only connect to Bedrock Realms servers or one of the publicly listed servers. That is "hard coded" into the game with no work-arounds for the Switch. If you have a PC, you have more options. This is just so you know what you should be looking for.
If none of the servers in the server list are to your liking, your focus will have to be to join a Bedrock server on Realms. Our server is in Java at this time, so it would be unplayable to you. There are message threads for servers advertising themselves, including realms.
https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft/multiplayer is your best bet. This message thread is more for older people "just talking in general, but not about anything server specific." What you posted is ok, but I don't think the mods will let it go far along the "looking for server" line. Good luck to you, and yes, you are VERY welcome to post in general about your perspective not being a 12-22yo player.

@Jancrash: If Mojang were to provide a "cloud backup", they would have to set hard limits on how much data, and what happens to the data once that line is crossed. My suggestion of using a Hermitcraft End-of-Season game save was to point out EXACTLY how much space a well-used world takes. "Aimed at individuals" or no, edge cases like this would have to be dealt with by a service provider.
@silverough2: Yes. But it doesn't take much time on Realms to figure out there is a "limit" on file size, and Mojang won't tell you what that limit is, so you essentially play your game until the file size grows to the point of making the game unplayable for lag.

I'm using a Multiverse server, so I have more than one Overworld, more than one End, more than one Nether. The Origional Overworld and Nether behave just fine. The additional Overworld and Nether appear totally out-of-wack in locating structures. I suspect Multiverse throws BBOR a curve-ball.

Oh, if you want some idea of the size and time involved for "heavily played worlds," check out the HermitCraft season backups available online through their site. While they are gorgeous in their own right to look at, they would represent an edge case of, "cloud storage may not work in some cases."
