posted a message on What should I use for my floor in this building?

Sticking with a medeaval theme then the ground floor would likely be stone slabs (or maybe polished granite as it would look like terracotta tiles) and upper floors wood planks (oak or spruce)

posted a message on How to build in the air?

Use dirt blocks as scaffolding - easy to find and easy to remove once the main build is done.

posted a message on What to do when lost in the Nether?
    Quote from The_Void_Craft»

These are things you should do when you are going to the nether so you don't get lost:

    1. Write your portal coordinates down so you can find it.

    2. Bring some materials to make an emergency portal in case you get lost.

    3. Don't go too far from the portal.

    4. Cheat, and get materials for a portal :)

    I would add

    5. Leave markers around the portal area - torches or jack'o'lanterns are useful as they show up from a distance
    6. Use cobblestone to build a wall or shelter around the portal - more visible from distance
    7. Lay a path behind you as you explore (or cobblestone pillars) or every so often leave a sign with a note on it pointing towards the portal

posted a message on New default textures?!

Well you saying that right about now is sorta ironic. Considering you and several other people are acting as if it's going to be the death of Minecraft because they added bad textures for a whole 24 hours. Also, what point in his comment insists that "the world revolves around him?" He was just simply saying that it wouldn't bother him even if they were to stay like this because it doesn't change the gameplay.

Again, just install Optifine if you hate them that much. The new texture pack doesn't seem to effect it.

Edit: Is this how it is for people EVERY year?

Why should anyone have to install Optifine just because someone at Mojang thought this was funny, not everyone wants to install third party software or have to install texture packs just to play the game they have already paid for.

If the staff at Mojang wanted to play some kind of prank why not swap the sounds of cows/sheep around or have brightly coloured creepers or something like that which would not either make the game unplayable for some people or force others to have to load texture packs because the textures that Mojang forcibly installed on peoples computers (without any option.......or permission .....) are so bad.

Poor judgement of the part of Mojang.

posted a message on New default textures?!

What a stupid thing to do from a commercial business- no option to revert without downloading packs etc sorry I do not think this is funny at all.

How many people have spent time trying to sort out the issue (not everyone in on a forum such as this to pick up on the "joke"). Not so bad if it was easy to clear by re-starting or by some kind of easy change but this is is pushing things too far.

I am personally not seriously annoyed - even though it has coincided with a video graphics update which for a while did cause some confusion, but I can understand why some would be - and I can appreciate their frustration - for what is a childish and ill considered "joke".

I wonder how many people have wasted a lot of time on this.

posted a message on Motivation for exploration?

On a recent exploration trip I raided a desert temple and found (apart from the usual sand/string/zombie flesh) an enchanted book - yeah - until I checked and it turned out to be curse of vanishing - still trying to figure out a use for that in straight survival - what a waste of an enchanted book! Bit of a wasted trip though....

Perhaps there could be a setting in game options enhanced exploration (perhaps to some detriment to farming?) so players can choose without having to edit loot tables or use mods the type of game they prefer.

posted a message on Mojang Game programming rework

The community does not know what is best for the game though, ask several people who play the game and you will get wildly differing options - so there would never be any agreement on the way forward. The very nature of the game means that there is no one right development path. Someone has to be responsible for the way forward.

Also if the game was developed by the community - who would Mojang or anyone ever support the game there would be bugs galore, and trying to support something that some else has written (and probably not documented/tested properly) would be a total non-starter.

posted a message on Village behind spawn surrounded on three sides by extreme hills ... Did I also mention diamonds ...

Playing this seed at the moment - quite good, looking at the village on the 1st pic above, my base is just on the other side of the dirt col between the two higher peaks - there is a small bay with a nice little rock island at the end of it on which I have built a tower style base.

Not too far away is a desert biome with a village and a couple of desert temples, and a fairly large swap not too far away either.

There are some extensive caves and a ravine under the extreme hills.

Create a fishing rod - fishing is both a great way to stock up on food and with a good chance of getting various treasures ( enchanted bows, books and fishing rods).
