    They've been trapped under ground for over two months. they will be rescued in the next few days.

    I suggest Notch give each and every one of them a free copy of Minecraft so they can have fun mining without worry of ever being trapped again. :SSSS:

    also, It would be easier to make using glass since it's transparent giving you some light underwater. And we all know that building under water can be a real drag.

    Where exactly did you get this from?

    When notch mentions the portal's travel distance he says "hundreds". I'm pretty sure this was an arbitrary random number otherwise he would have specifically said "one hundred" meters instead of "hundreds". Because hundreds could mean 100, 500 or even 700.

    His reference to 10 meters was very obviously not about the size of hell world itself.

    You're right it's not. It's size of the travel distance in the portal that leads to the other side of the portal. So now where exactly does this hell world fall in within this portal distance?

    Honestly I believe that this "Hell World" will be nothing but a simple hall way with some light effects 10 square meters in length. You enter one side of the portal, walk through this special effects hallway then come out the other side. Rinse and repeat when returning the opposite way.

    As for "exploring" that new realm, was just notch's way of making it sound exciting.

    You have all seen the Halloween update, obviously. The above pic.

    But some of you may have taken it out of context as most of it is written to have a Halloween theme. Scary this, monster that, jack-o-lantern. So if I where to remove all the Halloween context, it would read like this.

    Minecraft Holiday Update

    Explore a teleport realm!
    A brand new way of fast travel.
    Portal in, move ten meters, portal out,
    and you're hundreds of meters away.


    Fight new mobs!
    Actually difficult this time around.

    New depth experience!
    The deeper you are, the brighter it has
    to be to stay safe.


    Limited torches!
    Torches will die after a while. Use flint
    and steel to reignite, or place lanterns
    that last forever.


    Catch fish!
    Fishing and fishes now available.

    Updates for SMP
    Less bugs, more implemented features.

    New crop, pumpkins!
    Pumpkins can also be worn as totally useless helmets.

    Keep track of the time!
    A craftable watch lets you know when
    it's safe to emerge from caves.

    And as you can see, by removing any notion of halloween and scary themes, then the new teleports added do not have a hell world. The words, "Hell World" was only used to refer to the halloween theme just like using "scare other players", or "scary new monsters". they are just plain portals with a realm in between.

    Of course, this is just a theory. If you think otherwise then please, do tell...

    No it isn't. Until notch starts implementing gears and hopefully game physics, we can't really build contraptions. Sure, some cool things can be built with redstone but I don't consider it sufficient enough to say that "minecraft is about making contraptions" since really, all we get are logic gates but very little to connect them to.
