Do you know of any other good mods for her version?
All the good stuff is in 1.7.10. Modders haven't updated to 1.8.1 yet. You can have multiple versions of Minecraft and switch between them. She should download 1.7.10 through the launcher and install the recommended forge version for 1.7.10. We got forge for 1.7.10 not too long ago, so it's still relatively new.
"Let us permit" may be granted passively, not actively. I've seen similar wording on other EULAs where it's more clear that the extended rights are granted and transmitted automatically. The two sentences following the quoted bit go beyond other EULAs I've read and make it very clear that other people may do things with your content that you don't want them to do; if they didn't have the rights to do so, those last two sentences seem out of place.
It would be unfortunate for a content creator to attempt a DMCA takedown or other legal action only to find that they don't have the rights they're claiming, by virtue of the Minecraft EULA. Were I a content creator, I would seek legal advice before attempting to limit any use, copying, modification, or adapting of content I've created.
Art assets from scratch should be covered regardless of what the EULA claims. You could also claim copyright on other material such as writing (say you wrote a story for an MC mod). I'm not sure about code since we are doing it in java rather than a script created by Mojang. We should be able to DMCA things that contain our art, writing, and java code. You may not own the complete rights to the mod, but I think you own the aforementioned elements in the mod, which is enough to claim copyright infringement. If not, then who owns unique art, writing, and code?
I'm new to MC modding but not modding in general or these cheap sites. I've had work uploaded without my permission for other games as well. The main thing that bothers me is that they can put viruses and malware with the downloads, so I also want to request them to take down mods that I create for MC. MC is more popular, so this is a much bigger problem than it was for the games I've modded. I release my mods as open source for other modders to learn and improve modding, but it appears I need a good open source license to be able to go after these malicious sites. Does anyone know of a good open source license that restricts distribution?
I'm trying to make a mod that brings powered systems (like BuildCrat) for Minecraft 1.8
I wish I was more advanced. That sounds like fun. I was planning on making a plugin for buildcraft after forestry (want to be able to make an advanced power plant).
Will probably add some more mobs up there, and remember to contribute ideas
I'll share an idea I'd like to do, but it's cool if you do it before me. I'm new to MC modding, so it will probably take awhile for me to implement. However, I'm not new to modding or 3d/2d modeling.
What I think would be cool is to add a frog mob in the swamp biome that allows you to farm like a sheep. You could collect slime from the frog to make slime balls. They could hop around like bunnies in 1.8 or mo'creatures.
What sort of ideas do you have? I plan on working on a forestry plugin (new bees, trees, machines, etc.). I'm new to Minecraft modding (17 years of modding other various games though) and Java, so it will take me awhile to figure that out.
I apologize if this question is out there. I'm looking for a server to design small content mods for. Content such as new ores/gems, crafting recipes, trees, etc. This sort of stuff would require new textures, so that might be why I don't see content of this nature on servers. Your post piqued my interest because you code and want a server that stands out from the rest.
Edit: I'm brand new to modding Minecraft, but I've been modding games for about 16 years. My last project, modding an RPG game, included scripting a crafting system, creating crafting recipes and their graphics, level and monster design and their textures/scripts, effect texturing/scripting and much more. I only stopped because the game's community died out. I've programmed/scripted, 3d modeled/textured, designed levels, and mod design. I'm a jack of all trades.
Edit again: I'd like to note that I don't have the heart for building detailed stuff in Minecraft, so I wouldn't be good for that job.

Check out the tutorials here: http://www.wuppy29.com/minecraft/modding-tutorials/forge-modding-1-7/#sthash.mIqDMo4o.dpbs
They are really good and start with the basics.
