Next food for the first time: Avocado.

Make sure it is ripe! They are wonderful, those alligator pears.

Wolfram Alpha does not seem to understand it.

Try to change it up a bit like

    tan^-1(((sin(x^3+1))+x-0.8)*15)/20

And I'm guessing this is in radians? I don't see any Pi's. So if 2pi radians (tau radians) is 360 degrees, 90 degrees is pi/2 radians or ~ 1.52 etc. Overall the graph stops increasing at about 0.07, which is something like 4 degrees.

God help you if there are more than 100 percent interesting posts. Just look at that bizarre negative angle.

posted a message on What is the meaning of life?
You're asking the wrong question. If we can even come close to answering this question it would simply be to say that living itself is good no matter how bad a particular life may be. And as a good, it is thus irreducible into other categories without reducing it itself into something lesser.

'To be alive is good', is the only answer there is. And if you find living unacceptable, it's not the fault of life. Few, unfortunately, get a chance to taste death for comparison.

As someone who's a bit older, let me drop my two cents.

    1. Yes, every generation is messed up in some way. Been that way since the first murder.
    2. It is still, however, equally a bad generalization to then assume that all generations are equally screwed up. We youngin's tend to do this just to justify ourselves. It'll look real stupid in 30 years but hey, we've got time to forget.

Can someone check whether this works?

Go to wolframalpha and check it for yourself.

Boy. finding a good 3d model format is a son of a gun. The real trouble is finding a format that you can read/write well enough to procedurally generate and then also be able to view it in freeware viewers.

    Beneath frozen ice
Life moves, but what behooves us
    Then to take notice?

    Under cold lies cold,
To find passion is to melt
    Ice, shackled of old

    Rhyming is not right

    EDIT:

Cyn, he means 'sin' as in 'error or wrongdoing', a sound a like to the first part of your handle, thus 'wrongdoing = evil', etc.

God help him if he finds out that RiverC is short for River Cocytus, the river in which, in the epic poem The Divine Comedy, Satan is frozen at the bottom of hell.

Sin-a-cism. Cyn gets the joke but I don't think he thinks that it is funny.

I for one chuckled because I love puns.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone here play a musical instrument?

    Piano.

And I fixed freshwater! Just a matter of doing some math to the turbulence value.

    Good night all!

    What's this?

Biome output for 0,0 in the Still Yet Secret game project.

EDIT: Grr, the turbulence function is galling me. Can it not generate a signal output like the rest of the noise functions? Somehow, I must be mapping the biomes wrong for aquifer.

    Eh, well, there's always tomorrow.

Sagan used to be a beautiful man, that, and the fact that he opened up science and astronomy and made it more easily accessible to those that had previously been ignoring it.

Catechism of Hate is a Warhammer novel, Gav Thorpe is one of the biggest Warhammer authors.

Ah, Warhammer. We owe you one 'grimdark', no less! (Or is that, 'grimdarkness'?)

    Ever read LOTR or Gormenghast?

posted a message on Dream Logic
    Quote from Ketteridge

I read the whole page and thought it was interesting, however I don't think dreams actually mean anything.
I do alot of studying about Psychology and many of views are now based on what I've seen evidence for or found myself.

The dream about the French Revolution mentioned actually seemed rather tame compaired to one of my own dreams. I will wake up for what ever reason and think 'What the heck was that about?'
An example of a dream is, running through a street being chased by a giant spider (about the size of a minivan), the spider EATS a car and morphs into this strange creature that looks like a car but with a spider face and legs, then at the back it has a scorpian tail. I run away from this still and the green slime its shooting. Run into a house and all the walls are covered in paintings of dogs, who all turn to look at me and all begin talking to me at the same time, howoever they are all in different languages.

I believe that dreams are what happens when your mind is bored and your body is re-charging, your mind tries to keep you occupied with thoughts from the days events or something you saw. The way it turns out can be completely random. During the stage of sleep where you are most likely to dream, your brain is actually just as active as it would be if you were awake. Your body goes into a state of paralysis so you don't act out your dreams. On the other hand you get people that sleep walk, this is could be because the body is not in a complete state of paralysis.

Well, as a chemical process alone it is impossible for a dream to have any modern sense of 'meaning'. But if we assert that the telos of the dream (the future event) somehow shapes and drives the dream, is it not possible that the meaning that we assign to the dream becomes its true meaning, as though, in the same logic, it occurred because we were going to assign that meaning?

What is it with people and Sagan.

    What is 'Catechism of Hate'?

I did buy a red leather-bound version of 'The Divine Comedy' by Dante with hand drawn illustrations for £40. Totally worth it.

Nice! are they the Gustave Dore woodcuts? They are the best (IMHO).

EDIT: update again... got the biome generation right. The rotational iterator for the neighboring lists on regions was ignoring north. I ended up using a do{...}while() loop in a truly elegant and correct way! i.e...

    direction = east
do{try to add region at direction and rotate}while(direction is not east)
