Due to the many changes Mojang has made horses and the font have reverted to default for now.

Snapshot are coming along quite nicely for the Minecraft 1.13 Update Aquatic.
Still a few textures to do but I should have them done by the time the update in finally released.

I was just reminded how poorly Minecraft runs relative to OptiFine on my i5 6500/GTX 970/16 GB RAM machine, despite the fact that it's a powerful modern (2016) computer . . .

Just my two cents here, I don't have a pony in this race. There isn't "people managing that code". There's only sp614x. He's doing this in his spare time, free of charge. One person, not people. He doesn't have to keep it up to date, he could abandon optifine at any time just like Khar did with MCPatcher.
You cannot compare one person working on a free mod in his spare time to teams of paid developers working on large projects like Direct3D or OpenGL. It's not even apples to oranges. It's apples to salmon.
Documentation is such a low priority, especially for those parts of the mod that maybe a dozen people in the entire world code against. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That requires you to have the Connected Textures Mod, or CTM, installed in your instance of Minecraft. The easiest way to do this, currently, is to install Optifine. Without CTM, the connected textures of any resource pack will be hidden.
