Seeing as how SMP is still currently a far cry from SSP, I doubt Beta will be around soon. Maybe at the end of this year, or the beginning of the next, but not in two or 3 months, thats for sure. Beta will come out soon as SMP=SSP
I bought minecraft before it's completion so I'm, in a way, an investor. As an investor I'd like to know how the product is coming along. I've checked the blog and forums but don't see a target time for beta release. Is their even a target date for beta release?

My profit is the finished game at a lower price.
I was not being negative in the slightest. I wanted to know of what import the word beta is to someone who bought the game. The price increase would be a non-issue, so it's natural for someone, I would think, to be curious as to his actual question. Beta in and of itself means nothing. The content it provides does.
Beta means it's along in another stage of development.

I hit unbreakables, and I mined about 100x100 across the unbreakables I found about 10 diamonds now no matter where I go I only hit lava. I made 2 other minds down to unbreakables and only hit lava
