What is with the oppers all the sudden
Preferrably I would have copper instead of a hopper or a dropper

I figured I might as well follow the naming trend :P

But I guess Mojang could call it something else like "the flinger".

posted a message on Using "Block Pressure" To Move Items
If you put items in a hollow space within a larger mass of blocks, then push a block into that space with pistons to eliminate it, the items will rise up to the surface.

If the surface is very high up though, with many blocks in the way, the items will travel up through all the blocks in between until they reach the surface. Basically this allows "block pressure" as I call it to act as an item elevator.

Without any mechanisms, except for the ones at the bottom, you can easily elevate items up any vertical distance at a pretty decent speed. The items will move on their own accord through solid layers of blocks.

Has this ever been used by anyone in item transportation systems?

    Quote from Pfaeff

Now they seem to have integrated a new block, the dropper. It would have been a lot cooler to get this behaviour with a regular dispenser using low signal strength imo :( .

It seems as though the dropper will just dispense, and the dispenser will be more of a "use block" where it does different things depending on the item. Shooting arrows, placing liquids, etc.

Since that's the case I created a suggestion for a new third block: The Popper

That too. The Dropper will only drop items, and Dispensers are going to be doing different things based on the item.

Yeah, like placing liquids. Now that they have the dropper that could allow them to add more special functions to dispensers.

so you just throw an enderpearl and teleport away?

I haven't used this trick in a long time, and it's possible it no longer works.

The idea is you throw a pearl but leave and unload the chunk before it lands. Then the pearl gets left behind frozen in time, and will teleport you the next time the chunk gets loaded.

I support this fully, however I was wondering, does anyone know why the dropper was added?

Dispensers are getting more uses. (Hopefully like the thread on my signature!)

I thought it was to provide a way of dispensing, not shooting, arrows/snowballs/fire charges/eggs.

Instead of a whole new block, how about just have the dropper behave this way when a comparator is used as the input? In this way the concept could even be extended to other blocks... Like setting how far dispensers shoot arrows and other projectiles, or controlling how much light redstone lamps emit.

    That could work too.

posted a message on New Block: The Popper!
Here's an idea for a third Dropper/Dispenser variant that responds to different redstone levels differently.

The Popper would be crafted by combining a Dropper and a Comparator. It operates exactly like the Dropper with two upgrades:

    1) Items are fired in a perfectly straight line in the direction the Popper is facing. No random spread.

    2) The speed the item is dispensed varies with redstone signal strength. On level ground, an item travels 1 block of distance per redstone power level before landing. For example, a signal strength of 7 would deposit an item precisely 7 blocks in front of the Popper. Signal strength 15 would deposit it 15 blocks away. If the Popper is above ground level the item can travel even further before landing.

This would allow for some pretty cool item delivery and transportation systems. For example, depending on power level an item could be flung into different hoppers or water channels or pistons systems, so items from the same one Popper can be routed to different places.

posted a message on Filter Chests: A Better Way Of Sorting Items
Here's a very simple idea to improve the use of hoppers: the Filter Chest.

The Filter Chest behaves exactly like a regular chest until you power it with redstone. When that happens hoppers can only add more of the same items already in the chest.

For example, let's say you have a stack of sand and a stack of cobblestone in a Filter Chest. A hopper can put more sand and cobblestone in, but can't put in any other items.

This would also let you filter non-stackable items too. For example, let's say you have a Filter Chest with a diamond sword and a fire resistance I potion. When the chest is powered hoppers would only be able to place more diamond swords and fire resistance I potions. Not any other kind of sword, or any other kind of potion.

Just like a regular chest the Filter Chest would have 27 slots. So you can make the chest accept up to 27 different items, or limit it to a smaller number.

When the Filter Chest is unpowered hoppers can place anything inside, if there's room. Players would also be able to manually add or remove items at any time.

This addition would open up a world of possibility, and allow for much more advanced farms and item sorting systems.

Hm. What do you think about having biomes of varying difficulty? For example, some kinds of architecture might signify areas where enemies spawn more frequently, or where more dangerous mobs appear. Or it could tell you the area is safe.

Or maybe we can copy the overworlds old system, where depth correlates to enemy spawn rates. So the deeper you go the more dangerous it would get. But of course that might be where the best loot is.

We could also use mob spawners to create dangerous surface structures. Or combine the two systems so in some areas the surface is safe and in other places it isn't.

    Quote from Tizorna

Wait is this like wireless redstone but channel is set by the block base by type?

It's not wireless. It's basically a redstone switch turned on by a pair of identical blocks. It still needs to output the power normally though.

    Quote from Artifact123

So this can only detect blocks? Why not have it work with items aswell where you have to put an item inside the sensor's GUI. This would allow for a automatic sorting system of sorts.

Actually this accomplishes that. But rather than give the sensor it's own inventory, it can read the inventory of containers.

It could compare two chests, or two dispensers, or two hoppers, or anything else with an inventory. It only outputs a signal if the two containers have the same exact contents. You could use that to build filtration systems.

For example, let's say you want to make a "leather helmet detector". You could have a chest with a leather helmet in it on one side of the sensor. Then hoppers can push items through another chest one at a time. If the item added to the second chest is also leather helmet the sensor will output a signal.

So i was looking at the new snapshots. I saw two things that really popped out: The Redstone Block and the Quartz Block. I will be experimenting with how it looks.

One of the quartz block's textures is kind of mazey. I think Dinnerbone is adding it for people who want sci-fi/circuitry themes.
