    Quote from Badprenup

I like it, except for one thing. You should be able to rename envelopes via Anvil to change who they are sending to from the person who made the envelope to whatever name you give. If the items were summoned in by player or command block there may be invalid names for the delivery target. So that might be something that can be clarified on the summon command in the extra data.

Being able to change the envelope and send things to anybody would be useful, but it's a bit problematic. You'd have to solve the problem of griefers sending you spam, which would probably require a white/blacklisting system and a complex GUI.

You could of course use commands to create envelopes for anybody. So one potential solution for a server would just be to build a post office, that uses command blocks to make envelopes targeting the player of your choice, but only sells envelopes to whitelisted players. That would solve the problem of spam in command-block free vanilla, while still allowing servers to buff up their mail system if they choose.

posted a message on Endermail Envelope - Item Teleportation in Minecraft!
Here's an idea for a useful item: the Endermail Envelope. The purpose is to allow people to mail items to you by teleporting them into your enderchest.

You'd craft the envelope by placing 4 pieces of leather around an eye of ender. It would remember the name of the person who crafted it, and display it in the item lore.

People could craft any item with the envelope, and that would teleport the item into the enderchest of whoever made the envelope. So you could give envelopes to your friends to let them teleport items to you.

What can you send? Almost anything you want. Books with messages. Valuable items like enchanted tools. Stacks of resources and blocks like coal or colored glass. It's up to you.

Each endermail envelope is single use, and is consumed in the process of sending an item. You can only send one item or single stack of items per envelope.

If the target enderchest is full, then the teleportation fails and you keep the envelope and item so you can try again later.

You'd be able to use your own envelopes too, to send items into your own enderchest. So it would also be useful in single player.

I think he's using the ye olde way of typing. From what I know, a few hundred years ago in America, a slightly curved and downards "f" character was used in place of the S. It wasn't 'til later that we all recognized the S as the sound and letter it is now.

But on to the suggestion, it seems like it would be a good workaround, but what about the application? In a survival world it seems impractical, since when I go mining I'd rather have everything lit up so monsters don't spawn on my way out/back down. This seems more of an adventure map addition than anything, and if that were the case, then I support it. The applications it has towards map making seem endless: new and exciting horror maps, exploring dungeons and maybe even a fully realized RPG map.

If you're exploring deep into a mineshaft or cave system, you can't afford to put torches everywhere or you'll run out. This would allow you to have a light source in between the places you choose to light up.

Of course, someone cautiously exploring will just light everything up as they go and make multiple trips back to the surface for more torches. But some people like to venture into danger.

Ok, Regular Hexahedron has now been deemed genius!

Provide us with some crafting recipes, though.

Perhaps a glowstone block in the center, with a glass block on four sides, and a gold ingot in each corner.

Would the floordust disappear after a short while? And would it look like redstone dust? And would the lantern have a durability bar?

It would disappear very quickly, but slowly enough that if you keep walking you might have a trail of 2-3 dusted squares behind you as you move.

It would not look like redstone dust since it isn't forming lines. It would look like a bit of golden sparkles, randomly spread on the block below. It would not prevent you from seeing the floor.

It would not have a durability bar. After all, torches never wear out and they aren't even magical. The downside is that the lantern only works when held. You can't use it and another tool at the same time.

Everyone wants a portable handheld light source, but Minecraft's engine isn't designed for it. Here's a workaround.

The Glowstone Dust Lantern is a handheld lantern that doesn't actually emit light. Instead it continually drops glowing yellow particles. If the particles hit solid ground before they disappear, they create a new technical block: glowstone dust layer. Glowstone dust layer looks like a sprinkling of pixie dust on top of the floor, and it emits light the brightness of a torch. However the technical block only lasts a brief instant before vanishing. It's also intangible, and cannot be collected even with silk touch.

So this is a workaround to lighting engine limitations. The lantern doesn't emit light. Instead it continually creates short lived technical blocks on the floor, and those create light as you move.

It wouldn't look like a real lantern. But I think there's something pleasantly mystical about a person trailing glowing dust as they move, that vanishes behind them.

Sigh... well, I've been dreading this. This project has proven to be far more difficult than I expected, and with everything that's going on with my personal life, I've come to realize that I don't have the time or the skill to tackle something of this scale. I've been trying to keep it going so as not to disappoint anyone, but at some point I just have to come clean here. Sorry about this, I hope you guys can find someone a little more skilled to work this out.

That's a bummer! I totally understand though. It's a big project even for a team of people, and you've been doing all the work by yourself. You shouldn't feel bad at all.

Item frames allow you to display any item on a brown leather background.

You should be able to dye items frames like leather armor, so you can display items on any color background you want.

Yeah, it would need to have short notes like that Mario video.

I eventually hope Minecraft improves note blocks to include long sounds as well, optimally with comparators selecting note length.

Doing my best to not be blinded by the amazing suggestion at hand, i must still be critical.
Traditionally, the length of notes in the noteblock are very short, no matter what instrument they play.
You would never be able to acheive the same kind of sound as the music you linked. as all of the notes would be incredibly short.
What do you think about this?

It's always bugged me that note blocks can only play short notes. In the long run, I hope they overhaul the note block system so you can play different length notes by using comparators.

However I'd take short choir sounds over none at all. Minecraft composers would just make do, the same way they do what they can with short notes from other instruments.

Support, would make nether worth exploring (Add an unigue and usefull item to nether fortresses)
Recipe would make this too OP (Unless it uses items that you can only get a limited amount from nether fortresses)

One option is that you could craft it using nether stars, and it would still have limited uses. So it'd be easier to find them by exploring, and if you want to craft them you still have to explore the nether and gather wither skulls.

I like the concept, even though I'm a bigger fan of being able to just name Ender Chests and have similarly named ones share inventories.

The only improvement I can suggest is a way to spawn in invincible versions of these for SMP and adventure maps.

Yeah, the idea of a permanent nether chest occurred to me. It's a cool idea, I'm worried it would be a little too powerful though for survival mode if you could use it without limit.

It would remove the need to build an efficient transportation system for items, reduce the need to manage your inventory while exploring if an ally is back at base, and so on. While it would make a lot of things easier, part of the fun of survival mode is that some things are hard.

There are alternatives to limited uses though, such as having a cooldown before you can use the same chest again.

An invincible nether chest for SMP is an interesting idea. There's probably a way to do it already with command blocks. Maybe you could have command blocks continually try to place a nether chest there if there isn't one, and destroy nether chest entities near it before a player can pick them up

Do you remember the original ender chest? Instead of each person having their own private inventory, all ender chests shared a single communal inventory. It would be great if we had a version of that.

Here's an idea for a new block: the Nether Chest. It would not be craftable. Instead you'd randomly find them in the hallways of nether ruins. You could break them, and then place them anywhere else you want.

Nether Chests would all share a single inventory, allowing you to send items to other players across the map, even across dimensions. However to keep things balanced, each individual nether chest would have its own durability and could only be used a limited number of times. Each time you place or remove an item from it, that consumes one use. A Nether Chest would have a few hundred uses, and then would break and be destroyed.

This would force players to keep exploring the nether, to find new nether chests to replace the ones they use up. Item teleportation would be an option, but having limited uses would encourage players to save it for transmitting important things.

Although very useful in SMP, the nether chest would also be handy in single player. If you place items in a nether chest, that would allow you to retrieve them from other nether chests you find while exploring the nether.

posted a message on Transparent Crystal Armor That Lets Your Player Skin Show
    Quote from Badprenup

The idea is okay, although I would prefer a more global method of showing off skins, like a view armor toggle in the options that makes so you cannot see armor on any player. My reasoning behind this revolves around both the possible PvP imbalances of looking like an unarmed player (especially on servers that let you buy armor), and because showing off skins should be dependent on the person viewing the skin, not the person trying to show off. Just

A view armor toggle would be interesting. Although I think that not being able to see armor could be problematic at times. It'd probably be most useful when playing co-op rather than PVP.

Although it's transparent, crystal armor would be extremely visible. It would essentially look like glass. The edges of the armor would be outlined in white, and it would have those diagonal lines of white pixels glass has.
