Java always gets updates first. And for the moment, a lot of people aren't even playing 1.14 because of the horrible performance issues. You may have to wait but you'll get the polished version.

Microsoft is trying to get as much money out of the Minecraft players as possible, but they'd do that regardless of whether the game was dying or not. That's just how they are. There have been more big updates in one year than we've had in the course of several, and the developer team is at its largest and most active.
Am I thrilled about cross play requiring Xbox Live? Not at all. But the game isn't dying.

I'm calling it.
Once again—as we've seen before—99% of the dissent expressed here will be ignored, nigh any changes made as result of the constructive criticisms communicated, and the kicker is that we'll be told something along the lines of "this update was greatly improved as a result of community involvement and interaction." Yep, saying it happened must mean it happened, I guess.
You are right in saying 99% of the dissent here will be ignored, but there's a good reason for that. Most of the communication here is among players as this is a forum unaffiliated with Mojang. When the conversations are between players and devs, you might be surprised how much more positive and constructive the comments are, and how quickly they are given responses. Two textures I know of have already been changed because of the community's feedback. -

Minecraft is getting a sort of re-skin, but I wouldn't call it a forced overhaul. Like you said, there's always the option of using a resource pack.
If you look at Jasper's feed on twitter, you'll see that he and his team listen when they receive constructive criticism. In fact, the new birch tree texture was already adjusted per a player's request.
The old textures will always be available. I'm sure many people will use them because they're classic, and that's okay. Even though the default resource pack is changing, it's really nothing more than an option, and anyone who wants to keep the old look of Minecraft can easily do so.

I like the new diamond block texture. It's more detailed and bold compared to the old one. The texture connects across blocks in a less apparent way, but I think it looks good and makes sense for an uncommon building resource. Unless someone is playing in creative mode, it's more likely for diamond blocks to be used as adornments on a build rather than entire walls, floors, or ceilings, and the new texture fits that tendency very well.

I agree with you on the iron texture. It looks slightly more worn which seems fitting for a block of metal.

@Riverboat Looking back at my original post, there wasn't really any reason to specify something as vanilla, because we're including mods and extra content and basically anything either edition has to offer. I think the question at hand is really, "Do the capabilities of Minecraft: Java Edition outweigh the improved performance in Bedrock Edition?". Thanks for your input, by the way. I hadn't thought about Bedrock Edition's add-ons or the visuals.
On another note, Paper just fixed the mob spawning problems present in Spigot, so now you can get optimized performance as well as a fully functioning game! Another point for Java Edition.

Alright, nevermind about everything. With 1.14 bringing what is essentially vanilla mods with data packs, Java Minecraft is definitely the way to go. I mean, that's such a huge development! Unbelievably awesome, and props to Mojang.

That's interesting. I knew Java was ahead in terms of content but I assumed everything else would be the same.
I think it's free if you already have a Mojang account. But I get where you're coming. The more I think about it, Windows 10 Minecraft just didn't feel the same in some regards.

One day I decided to try out Windows 10 Minecraft, and the performance and power compared to Java Minecraft was night and day. The chunks loaded insanely fast. I set the render distance so high I couldn't see the end of the world, and my fps never dropped.
After experiencing that, the problems of Java Minecraft are just too glaring to go back. Chunks load like slugs, vanilla servers can't keep up even on dedicated gaming servers, and although Spigot provides much needed optimizations, it's got some major drawbacks like inconsistent and insufficient mob spawn rates. There are a few things you can only do on Java Minecraft, like play with huge mod packs or use plugins, but after seeing how smoothly Windows 10 Minecraft runs and learning you can host servers, it seems like the best choice for vanilla survival multiplayer.
Can anyone weigh in on this? Are there any limitations or drawbacks that Windows 10 Minecraft has? Is there a big enough audience for Windows 10 servers? Any advice and insight would be much appreciated.

A friend and I have started up a small magic mod server with Thaumcraft, Botania, and Blood Magic. There are a few other basic mods as well such as BibloCraft and Biomes O' Plenty just to add a little variety to the base game. We plan on keeping the same map for as long as the server is online.

Anyone is free to join. Please do not steal, grief, or pvp without consent.

Scenario:
I'd like to start up a survival server where most of the map is water, but there are islands scattered around that players must find and take over. All biomes, structures, etc. would still be generated in this scenario. The map would be permanent or at least last several years. I think making this an anarchy server would add some excitement and danger, but it seems many people today prefer land and pvp protection.
Question:
So, do you think you'd have fun playing on a server like this? And if so, would you have more fun with anarchy or protected survival? Feel free to comment with any ideas or suggestions.

Can you act like an adult?: Of course! I wouldn't want to be obnoxious and immature and ruin anyone else's good time.
Tell us about yourself: I'm just another person that enjoys playing Minecraft, and I've been playing for about 7 years. I love to make redstone contraptions for large scale projects, excavation, automation, and other technical stuff.

Hello! A friend and I are starting up a server soon and we would like to put up some art for the website and server image. We would prefer manga but any style is fine and we are open to suggestions. There is nothing too specific we want but we would like the art to be lighthearted / cheerful. If you are interested or have any questions, let me know by post or pm, and we can discuss any details, compensation, etc. If possible, please provide some example art you have made in the past.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to reading your posts!

Thanks a bunch! After seeing a lot of the values are the same I ended up randomizing them.

Hello!
I recently installed a mod/plugin called Open Terrain Generator and a pack of biomes to work with it called the Biome Bundle. All the new biomes it adds look really amazing and the potential for a manually drawn map is huge. However, even though Open Terrain Generator has image to map support, it seems there are no hex values assigned to specific biomes in the Biome Bundle. If anyone knows how to assign hex values for this plugin to work, please let me know. If there is a more appropriate place to ask this question, a redirect would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.

Hello! For the past few months, I have been working on a semi vanilla server that I plan on releasing soon. So far, I have designed a few plugins, made a set of rules, and have been thinking about what types of events to host and achievements/unlockables to offer to players. For the most part, the server will feel like vanilla, but I want to add a few things here and there to make the game more interesting without deviating too far from vanilla.
Before the server opens, I think there are some aspects of the server that need feedback and ideas that need to be implemented. I can't be too specific with details, but the server is going to be a friendly community type server. It will have a permanent world with a fairly big world border, custom crafting recipes, and cosmetic abilities that can be unlocked by playing on the server. If anyone wants to give their opinion on these things, I would very much appreciate it, so here are the questions I want to ask:
What should a spawn include? So far there is a spawn room with rules and info, but should there be spawn shops, a nether hub, etc.? Should players be able to build inside parts of the spawn?
What type of world should the server have? It would be easiest to create a vanilla pre-generated world, but Minecraft does have world customization and there are mods/plugins out there that have their own biomes and terrain generation.
Should there be any form of economy, and if so, should it be currency based, trade based, etc.? This is a purely opinionated question, but I want to design the server around player preferences.
A few other features that could use a second opinion and ideas:
Custom Crafting - Ideas
Cosmetic Abilities - Ideas - How to obtain
Community Events - Ideas - Rewards
Custom Mob Drops - Yes or no - Ideas
Spawn Eggs - Yes or no
Again, any feedback or opinions would be greatly appreciated. If you have any of your own ideas that you would like to suggest, please do.

I am looking for someone who draws skins on commission. There are probably tons of people out there that actively do this, but I have been unsuccessful in my search, so I decided to post here. If anyone reading this does skin commissions or can refer me to someone who does, please let me know. It would be much appreciated.
I would like a male alex skin with a dark gray jacket, sleeves down to the wrists and unzipped. I would also like it to have a grayish blue shirt underneath, black cargo shorts, dark brown hiking boots, and a black beanie on the back of the head. The skin tone I would like to be a little pale, the hair brown, and the eyes blue. I know this is a tall order so I can provide reference images and work out a fair commission. Thank you in advance for anyone who is able to help.

Name: Jace
Age(18+): I am 19.
Birth Year: 1998
Location: United States
Have You Read and Do You Agree to the Server Rules: Absolutely I do.
How Would You Describe Your Minecraft Play Style?: I would describe it as building-intensive and experimental. By far my favorite thing to do in Minecraft is design massive structures and spend copious amounts of time putting them together. Specifically, I like to make towers and floating buildings/islands. On the experimental side, I like to create redstone contraptions for farming, automation, or anything that makes whatever I'm currently doing more efficient. I also like to test the limits of the game and see what it can do outside of the intentions of the developers. Namely, I think it's fun and interesting to break unbreakable blocks and obtain impossible items (I didn't see a rule against this type of stuff, but if it's frowned upon, I'll refrain).
Why Do You Want to Join Our Server: I love vanilla, but I haven't been able to find many populated servers. Your server focuses on community, and it's loads more fun to play with an active bunch of players than play solo.
Tell us About Yourself: Aside from playing Minecraft, I enjoy coding and sound design. I am studying computer science in college and learning about music theory and synthesizers through a program called FL Studio.
Anything Else?: Let me in!

On a survival multiplayer server, would you build a foolproof killing trap at your base?
If a trespasser activates the trap and dies, how would the victim react? On one hand, a dangerous player could be stopped and deterred from raiding or attacking your base, and you're safe for another day. On the other hand, the trap might turn what could be a simple thief or passerby into a revenge-seeking griefer. Without having any idea of who might activate the trap, would you build it?
