To make it Vanilla: don't get bukkit. Simple. And no, there was no guide as it's the same as making a server now, you just need the jar file. I believe I can find where I got the jar for 1.7.3b. This one guy uploaded every jar since multiplayer was out for Minecraft
Well, besides the fact you have to put online-mode to false. So if you want it public, you're gonna need bukkit and authme. Other than that, it's the same

What do you mean "what did you use..", please specify. Are you asking what client he was using? If he has mods? Or are you asking if he used direct connect or just added it? Or what IP he's using?
