    To everyone asking about an update;

If I ever pickup the resource pack again it won't be for some time. Since I started this project I've become a full time game developer, all of my time is currently invested in working on my flagship game Retro-Pixel Castles (It's currently in Early Access on Steam) and it would be a huge disservice to them if I reallocated that time to working on the resource pack. After all, they're all paying gamers/fans and deserve to have a completed game! :)

I have always kept this pack in the back of my mind though, I just simply don't have time to update it anymore. But who knows what the future holds after RPC's development is complete. :)

I thought I might clue you guys into where I've been for the last few months. I've temporarily put SixtyGig on hold while my time has been spent working on my first retail PC/Mac/Linux video game, Retro-Pixel Castles. Don't fear! SixtyGig IS NOT CANCELED. I just don't have time to work on both projects side-by-side. I will be returning once development on RPC has been completed or has slowed down enough to give me time for both!

You can check it out at it's official website:

Hope you're okay and just busy, Ray!

Oh, no worries. Everything is fine. I'm just working on my java game. ;)

I needed a break from the resource pack, I didn't want to start in on something as important as mobs while I was burned out. It would greatly effect my work quality :D

Just to give everyone a heads up, I am of course still around. I've taken a short break from working on the resource pack. I've taken up a small side project; working on artwork for a new java game I am developing. I just needed to try my hands at some pixel art and take a break from the cartoony stuff I've been doing. Working on SixtyGig is a hard, complicated process and I just needed to step back a while and reset. :D

Here's some shorts of my project if you're interested in where my time has gone the past week. I'd love some feedback. :)

Note that a lot of these shots may have some half-completed textures in them.

I think almost anyone can texture, it just takes dedication and the willingness to learn (and accept critical constructive criticism!!). Over time you'll improve, and look at your old work and laugh. Case in point:

    (Look at my old grass)

    and now:

EDIT: Just keep in mind, you WILL absolutely SUCK at this for a while, it's all part of the process. Just don't get discouraged and give up. Come here and ask for help, look up tutorials, or look at how other people's work is shaded and just keep trying!

posted a message on New to texturing. - Where to begin?
(Disclaimer: If you already know how to draw textures most of this post won't be too handy)

My advice would be to start off by ripping off someone else work. I know, it sounds crazy. But if you're completely new to drawing textures your best starting point is to find someone else work that's similar to a style you're interested in, and rip it to shreds. Try to figure out how they made it and then try to make textures that would blend right into that person's work like it belongs there. Once you've mastered the art of replicating someone else (Completely from scratch, no texture edits!) Do it again! Find another pack you like, and try to duplicate their style as well.

Once you've done this to a bunch of packs, then take all that you've learned and try to make up your own unique style. ;) It's how I learned to draw textures many many years ago, long before MC. There's a lot of subtle things you pickup. Drawing textures isn't really the same as say, web graphics design.

Just keep in mind, you absolutely should not try to distribute these ripoff textures, people will probably notice pretty quick. Just use them for learning purposes only. Another obvious route is to find tutorials based on the styles you like (Cartoony, pixel art, realistic, etc) and try to duplicate their work as well.

Somewhere along the line in the learning process your inspiration will some naturally! Then, once you really get going and have your own style, post some examples in this forum and let us nitpick them apart, and we can all help you figure out out to shade and color your pack correctly. ;)

Apparently some mods tend to delete posts silently if the conversation goes mad but they still don´t lock and exile threads like this one that had no right to exist from the outset. Really, it would be the least to just leave a short message that something was deleted and why to avoid any confusion, suspicion and anger that might happen in consequence of such practice.

There's really nothing wrong with this thread, although we do get these "recommend a pack" threads often they do seem to feel kind of spammy to those of us who are here regularly. But, there's actually no rules preventing them from existing.

..but, having said that; The mods have a "Moderate in the background, silently" policy, basically we can't discuss the reasoning behind removing posts, although we can explain ourselves if we lock a post. I assume the reasoning behind this is to allow the removed content to "die" without people asking additional questions about it.

So really about all I can is some posts were removed, I can't tell you why, and that I was not the one who removed them.

posted a message on Is there a PC version of the xbox natural texture pack?
I may be wrong, but I think this can be considered as falling under the category of ROMs. For example, it's illegal for me to own the Mario Brothers rom *unless* I own the cartridge. If I own the cartridge, the rom dump I have is simply a "backup" copy.

Thus, you could argue that a "backup copy" of your DLC on the xbox is on your PC, but since you own the original it's acceptable to store it on your personal computer as well.

Just my 2 cents, but that's sort of how I view it. But the reality is at the end of the day; I seriously doubt anyone is going to ding you for re-purposing software you already own.

But like I said, no one can distribute it anyway (because THAT is illegal), so you'll be hard pressed to find a copy. You'd probably be better off figuring out how to rip it off your console yourself. ;)

I'm sure all the Xbox packs exist on PC somewhere, many people have ported them. Problem is it's technically intellectual property theft, and thus they can't be posted on MCForums, PMC, nor any other reputable site. You're completely on your own to find it, *and* be warned, it would technically be illegal to download it unless you own the same packs on your xbox already.

Is this a mcpatcher issue or sixtygig issue with breaking stained glass? http://imgur.com/EYW2Snv

That's actually a Vanilla bug.. I explained it to someone else before, here's the old post:

    Quote from Rayvolution »

That's a known issue, a few other packs have the same problem sadly, like Sphax for example. He uses the same method I do.

It's actually a vanilla bug, it's just much more obvious with packs like mine. Basically, the destroy textures make a semi-transparent texture under it completely transparent when it overlays the texture ontop of it.

*but*, the difference is, in vanilla the destroy texture looks like this:

(Note that anywhere not the actual cracks themselves is 100% transparent)

..and SixtyGigs (and a few other's, like Sphax) look like this in order to make the cracks look smoothly shaded accross the texture it's overlaying:

If you notice, the default is mostly completely transparent in any area that's not the crack itself, where as mine is *completely* opaque. So where as you get the glitch in vanilla MC just on the cracks themselves when the overlay covers the block, in my pack it happens on the *entire* block.

But it's a small price to pay for a nice well blended block-break texture. The alternative is quite ugly. :/

I only did this back in 1.5.x, I just selected optifine as a mod in the mcpatcher option to add and installed it, worked okay despite everyone saying that it wouldn't lol

I can't confirm it, but I have been told you can install MCPatcher and Optifine Light together, but I don't use Optifine at all so I have no idea how to go about it. ;)
