what about just using 1 piston on the 2nd reed level (itll cascade and take down the 3rd anyway).

or hm, I guess it messes up the drop in the water... well you could replace the pistons with sticky ones that have blocks attached, that should avoid breaking the pistons.

The latter is the solution. Replace the regular pistons with sticky pistons attached to blocks. Make sure you have a ceiling above the unit or you risk sugar cane popping up on top of the extended block and being dropped on to the soil the sugar is planted on. Also consider adding glass pane/iron bars/fence gates down the central water line to prevent reeds being thrown to the opposing soil blocks.

Extended and retracted pistons at the same time? That should be fixed in 1.3...

Anyways, you can just break the extra heads to fix it.

Actually from my testing, 1.3 is the cause of this glitch. I have this setup in a 1.2.5 world and never get this glitch, I built the same thing from scratch in 1.3 and it does this about 50% of the time. For some reason whatever they changed to slow down pistons is causing them to duplicate the piston heads, you can just break the piston head to reset it, however this breaks a lot of devices where this kind of behavior is fatal.

Addendum: Finally figured out how to replicate this. If you build a reed farm essentially like the OPs with 2 stacks of pistons facing each other any piston on the upper row with a 3 high reed in front of it will become stuck in this fashion.

    Quote from Submachiner

I was wondering why I kept getting the 503 error. Its bothersome to hear that having my account migrated makes it vulnerable. I just changed my password a few days ago, guess it won't hurt to do it again. Glad to know they caught it and are fixing it.

Under the circumstances this should not strictly speaking be necessary. As I understand the situation the exploit does not give them access to anything other than the account name. Password should still be secure, as they are just spoofing the username. It is still good practice to change the password often, but strictly speaking should be unnecessary this time.

hey why didn't my world generate like in captiansparlkez vid, it's just a...square with a tree and a chest :sad.gif: please help....

You're playing either 2.0, or 1.0. The world is 1/3rd the size making for a harder challenge, if you want the 'L' shaped island then use 1.1 or 2.1.

dude you can't play this map anymore, the water keeps contantly turning back to ice???

As has been said repeatedly in this thread, place a block over the water at any height, or a torch next to the water and it will not revert to ice.

posted a message on Did the Terrain Become BORING? (UPDATE 6/5/13 - 1.7 is a biome update?)
I miss the awe-inspiring landscapes, and the underground caves being interesting. Now, everything looks pretty much the same with a few minor differences, and if you find one cave it's almost guaranteed to connect to every other cave via ravine, or abandoned mineshaft, meaning they're nearly impossible to navigate/light up, and completely impossible to manage if you're trying to clear an area for a massive construction. With the new terrain generation they should have just named the game 'Cavecraft' because mining isn't really practical when digging 20 blocks in any direction underground leads to a never-ending cave system. Just seems like all the 'epic vistas' have moved underground, and the surface has become completely unappealing. There was a lot of promise in the biome additions, and underground terrain features, but they essentially threw out everything that made the terrain generation amazing in favor of a bland boring surface, and a single world encompassing cave system.

It's all been said before, the shader should be texture pack editable, and the transition being so abrupt is jarring, to say the least.

Hey quick question guys, im using the birdcage mob trap design where they all walk off, i have a 6x6 lowest tier and the enderman fall down all walls except that one. I have signs up and they just sit on the edge anyone know why? I can post pics if needed

It has to do with a behavior change, mobs no longer treat signs as full blocks, so they won't walk onto an airblock that has a sign in it. Not sure if there's a work around yet.

Um.. Does this normally happen? I don't think ive ever seen that many mobs in one place. :/

The reason there are so many mobs in one spot is because there's no where else they can spawn, so they always spawn there.

Yeh I did, what exactly do you need to know HOW people can enjoy a map? And why does it matter? Like You said "I just want to know how people can enjoy such a basic, uninteresting map." What am I suppose to say? How about...They enjoy the map because its entertaining/challenging/fun/and different then other maps?

More to the point, I think the rookie builders seem to enjoy it because they can steal the idea easily. Think I've seen more maps inspired by this one this week than anything else...

At what point did I say I find the map too hard? I was just saying that this map is inferior when compared to most other maps, which is why I cannot understand why it has so many downloads.

Because it is a challenge. On maps like Solar Survival you start in a huge area, there's no real challenge to that for an experienced minecrafter. Survival when you're given a ton of resources, and room to move is just normal play. I cut my teeth on Vechs' maps, for a survival map to even peek my interest a little bit it's going to have to limit me a LOT. This one gave me a solid 3 hours of play, that's pretty good for what is essentially minecraft at it's easiest. Every other survival map bored me to death.

Half blocks for..? Ceiling or floor... both?

I built the entire thing out of half-blocks.. Double-stacked half blocks are still ender-proof, use them for the walls, ceiling (1 thick so you don't have to light the top), floors, drop chute if you make one, landing pad.. Everything..

I love this map :smile.gif: But my mob trap is always getting destroyed by endermen :sad.gif: is there a way to make it so endermen wont spawn ?

Aside from the 2 block ceiling solution I've seen above, what I find as a better solution is to use cobblestone half-blocks, it takes a lot of them, but the result is that the ender can't grief them, and you still get to drop the 3 meter high doofs to their death...
