posted a message on What is a good city building game?
I'm interested in getting a city-building game. I was looking into Dawn of Discovery (Anno 1404) and SimCity. Not sure which SimCity, but I was looking forward to the one coming out early next year. I'm open to suggestions, but I want a game that focus mostly on city-building. I've heard that Dawn of Discovery has some combat, but that's okay.

Higher quality videos and maybe do some more commentary while playing. Less mainstream games would be nice.
If you are not profiting from videos then try to claiming usage of music under "fair use".

I don't have Windows XP anymore, but if I remember correctly you had to enable Stereo Mix?
Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Playback. Then right click and click show disabled devices. If there is Stereo Mix enable it. I remember I had to enable this for some reason.. not sure if it was for Fraps though.

You could use a new microphone if you can afford one. I hear lots of static and other noises. Also resolution bugs me, but that's just me.
You could have explained what Strings and integers store before hand, and talk about some practical uses.

I've definitely merched though. I was selling really well. I probably made at least 400m with jiggajim by wasting my pathetic life in the stupid FM, so I've gone above 90% of the population, and there, 70% of the FMers.

It's just hard for me considering the only 'good' times on this game for anyone would probably be back in 2005 and 2006. Even then, getting to 30 was a very time consuming thing for most people, but for me, I was able to master this and could get to 40 in a day or two by .. PQing! That's what it was called.
    1. Get some friends
    2. Grind to 20
    3. Kerning PQ
    4. Ludi PQ
    5. Have a merch; 1 of your friends plays the trade

with my bro, I recall getting to 40 on at least 6 chars back in the day by doing this tactic.

My psychiatrist told me I need to look on the bright side of things..
Maplestory looks pretty for some. It has real art drawn in, and it works really well.
Combat is fun, although mediocre for the original classes..
    Uh.. items look pretty..

Yeah this isn't doing it for me. Maplestory sucks. I only got in 2 mins on La Tale before ejecting the disc and handing it back to my bro, but that automatically is better than MS.

My way of merching was ruined due to hackers duping items and for that reason I quit the game. I spent so much time in the FM and to look back it was all pretty much wasted time.

I remember playing back then, before all these builds and guides and all that stuff. I built my rouge with all the wrong stats just so I could use some weapon, haha. I didn't make it very far back then, it was a real challenge.

All that tracking in Kerning PQ, no one does it anymore...

    Maplestory used to be fun.
Once you get to around 4th job, you will start mindlessly grinding all day. I got to level 140 and stopped grinding.
Now they are making a whole bunch of 2x exp events and 2x drop.
Honestly, Big Bang was a pain.

LaTale is actually a bit fun.
If you can tolerate the cartoonish graphics.
I got to like level 10, and I stopped playing.

I agree there is a lot of grinding. I remember grinding for an hour just to gain 10% experience.
Haha, I remember being on 8x experience, but they do offer a lot of experience events because they managed to screw up.
Big Bang made everything a whole lot easier..

I personally hate maplestory with all of my passion, mainly due to a few things:
    1. with my original account (2005~2008) I got to level 11X, worked fully legit and got hacked, losing all of my stuff. I asked for support from NEXON, and got nothing in return.
    2. I started out on CHAOS a week after it was created, and rose in the server ranks to the top 100 players, getting to about lv120 and spending all of my free time before the summer ended and amassed some really good and rare drops. I also befriended the #1 trader on the server, who had literally thousands of real life money worth of mesos, had the lucky guy badge and all that. I was also in a top notch guild where I would raid with some 16 year old kids at that lv120 castle in the snowy place. Near august or september, I get a $50 NX card from a friend, so I conserve the dough and buy some items that I'm required to purchase in order not to be stunted at all. So, I have about 27000 points left. I buy some cube things to make my items good. I buy 1 clothing item and all that. After a week of purchases, I am finally not stunted at all. THE NEXT DAY, they introduce meso bags again. See, the reason why I would buy those and not buy mesos from an external company is that half the time those companies will hack you. You usually get the goods from some korean weirdos (when a friend was on the phone, it was like some old lady trying to produce sounds reminiscent of horrible english) but you'll likely have your account banned even if you're sly, or they will target you & hack you, taking your items.

So, that prompted me to just ragequit. See, I was only a truly frequent player from 2005 to 2008. Then, I begun taking huge breaks (Months). My stupid friends forced me into playing with them. I get on my jiggaboojim character and all of his money is gone. All of the legendary items too.

So yeah. Don't play legit. Just play on a private server.

Also, I think everyone suffers from Rosy Retrospection. Most of the players were annoying kiddos, 14 year olds, or asians. Like WOW, you also saw frequent bursts of brazilians, which kind of made the servers slower. The GMs sucked too. For years of activity, I've only seen 3 GMs. I probably reported at least 300 hackers, who may I point out most didn't get caught. 1 of the GMs appeared after a false report filed on me, we had a civil chat and I got kicked, even though I did jack ****. The other two were chilling out in ludi or heny, where a bunch of players flocked and white knighted them, boosting their pathetic egos. Both treated me and everyone who wasn't being a ccksucker like garbage.

Not to mention the fact that I only had 4 true friends on that game, all of which quit too. And I'm not antisocial.. I've been incredibly civil on that game.

I highly recommend not playing this game. It's fun and all, if you create your own personal private server for your local buds.

They do have some poor customer support. I knew a lot of people who got hacked and received nothing in compensation. The only time they offer compensation is if they screw up on their part.

I was surprised how much some of these items are worth in real money and was even more surprised that some people were willing to buy. I managed to sell most of my when I quit and just left the rest, because the process was long.

I never bothered to buy those meso bags. With some dedication buy low and sell high.

Playing legit is a very difficult thing to do, but playing on a private server isn't much of a challenge but it is fun.

The only time I ever saw a GM was during events, never saw them anywhere else. I've reported many hackers and only maybe one or two were actually banned.

posted a message on What games are good?
Recently I've been looking for a new game to play. Guild Wars 2 seemed really interesting, but is it worth it? I've played the first Guild Wars and it was fun. I was also interested in getting StarCraft 2, but I wasn't that great at the first StarCraft. I guess genres I'm interested in are strategy games or simulations like Tropico.

I just need someone to recommend some games and if they enjoyed them or not.

Also, they are making it harder by forcing players to use cash shop to make money using the older methods, like zhelm/ scarlion/ targa runs (boss runs). They make you pay to buy a cash shop item allowing it to be traded once. When back in the day you could do all the runs and make a huge profit without paying a dime.

You can still do runs, can't you? All of those items are one-of-a-kind, meaning you could only sell one at a time, unless you store them in your storage or some other method similar to hoarding Cracked Piece of Time.

When I played and did runs, you could go on a run for 20mil and sell a SoK'd zhelm for 50mil. Essentially I could make more by just doing runs, but I do agree it is a bit harder.

Oldschool Maplestory + a good private server is a much better experience than any other MMO imo.

Yup, the good times. I remember when being level 50 meant something. Now a days there's a lot of hackers and everything feels spoon fed. I could get my character easily to level 70 in a day.

@OP I found MapleStory to be pretty fun, but I no longer play. There's plenty to do if you make friends, but if you want to get top-notch gear it'll be very hard. The economy is terrible due to hackers and purchasing top-notch items cost a fortune. Especially when their cash shop offers items to further enhance items.

In short play it if you want to have a good time and make friends, but if you want to get serious and participate in high level activities then you'll need a lot of dedication.

I also tried LaTale a while back, but it didn't appeal to me.

    Here is what I think:

HL3: Valve is NOT making it, they have told us over and over. BUT I think they will make it without telling anyone, because when a good game squeal comes out of no where its even better. Your jsut popping into the local retail store to see if they have some good games that arn't on steam and the n you see it, in a dark corner all by itself sitting there.
    HL3/HL2E3 you will just go"Holy s**t......"

Companies have done it, kept the game being out all hush hush and then just casually mentioning it. It works really well.

Especially with the comments found inside some of the Source Film Maker files. Valve keeping this hush hush and then letting the public in on some of it. I'm really excited for the release of HL2E3 when it does come out.

posted a message on DayZ mod becoming independent.
Full support of it becoming standalone.

Rocket will be able to add more features than the current DayZ mod as some things he cannot control. I heard the pricing of the game is similar to how Notch priced Minecraft. It would be cheaper during Alpha and reach full price at release, but this needs citing.

Hopefully Rocket will better deal with hackers, or I'll just play on a private hive until he does.
