Hey this looks really awesome going to download do you mind if i do a play through of it on my new channel to start it
I would be thrilled if you make videos of my map, and I will watch every one and post the first one on the thread! I love watching people play my map. Just PM me a link to the first video once you've got it up.
I played a round! I think it's a solid idea, but I found the map a bit frustrating to play. I was pretty much constantly under attack from skeletons, and there just isn't as much cover as I'd like. The maze worked decently, but I wouldn't mind some trees or other things around the arena to provide more cover (and spruce up the place a bit!).
The quartz building apparently has an easter egg, but I don't actually know what it did or even how I triggered it. Could have been the number of items I tossed, or it could have been the last thing I threw in (an iron sword). I also wasn't sure what the buttons labeled teleport did -- other than cost me 5 points.
It would be nice if there was low level but non-terrible food provided for free, even if it was limited by time or similar. It was difficult enough to survive without constantly worrying about buying food in addition to other things in the shop. I'm not sure how balanced prices were; with so many things costing over 20, I pretty much ignored them in favor of things I could get immediately. Maybe some low-level enchants in addition to the high-level ones? Wouldn't mind some splash healing potions either -- perfect for an arena where all the mobs are undead! Were you planning to add mobs besides skeletons and zombies in the future?
Anyway, pretty fun to play, but without any multiplayer support I'm not likely to pick it up again. I think it would be a lot more fun with more people to help with the huge crowds of mobs.
I enjoyed it! 14/20 - here is the full review for you.
Thanks for reviewing the map, and I'm glad you liked it! I admit one of my favorite parts is the new death messages with the named zombies. (The winner so far is "Player tried to swim in lava to escape Redstone Ore.") The repetitive nature of the map is definitely its biggest problem -- I'm not sure I'll make another map quite like this one, but I hope other people do so I can see what happens to this sort of new genre.
This was an awesome map! I loved playing it, especially when pvp was on and my friend was with me. However, I found that it got a little repetitive after a while, just punching zombies and swinging swords at them.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, at least mostly. I agree it gets repetitive after a while, which is why all (or almost all) of the goals are built around construction and exploration. Any suggestion for what I could change or add to the map?
This is a really awesome, inventive, and unique map! Thank you Raecchi!
Thanks for checking out the map! Glad you liked it, and I've sent you a PM about your idea.
I'm not sure I'm likely to make more maps exactly like this one, though I did briefly consider making a version that was all skeletons. I think everyone would just die and rage constantly though. XD
A have just started a survival series of this map so check it out at my youtube channel at MineGamesHG make sure you have the caps and you will be pleased on my videos
Awesome! Once you've got the first video up, could you PM me the link so I can put it in the main post? Thanks.
I'm fairly sure that all of the mobs (and definitely sure for bosses) exist on the map when it's loaded. They're set to be permanent, i.e. not despawn if the player gets too far away, and that's that.
You can definitely make custom mobs with armor, held items, and potion effects, and even make them into spawners. I recommend MCEdit for that, as the process can be done much more smoothly than editing each one by hand with an NBT editor.
@Raecchi,sure thing! But i need a tutorial on how to move the player's spawnpoint to the right direction i've been doing like a millionth time anad it never worked! I hope you help me with this
MCEdit just has a button on the main control panel to change the spawn point. It looks like a Steve head in a cage. Just click that, then set the spawn point where you want it -- MCEdit will pop up an error message if there's something blocking the place you want people to spawn. You also may be able to do it in-game with /spawnpoint, but I'm not sure if that changes the default spawn or just the current player's.
The other important thing to remember is that multiplayer spawning works over a 20x20 area centered on the "official" spawn point, so don't do anything like having a one-block spawn point in the middle of a lava lake.
You might be able to do this with the scoreboard system and a dummy score -- score of 1=female, 0=male, then do testfor on any command blocks that have dialogue. I suspect getting the system set up would require some finicky redstone, but it's definitely a possibility. And bravo for wanting to offer players that option! More games need it.
EDIT: So even easier is just making "teams" with the scoreboard system, one for each gender option. I roughed out a setup for it that looks like this:
Step one
Step two
Really, really rough, but let's call it a proof of concept!
I have tested this map in beta prior, and as far interesting survival style maps, I vouche for Raecchi! Worth a download if you are into this style of gameplay.
Thank you again for testing and for your sound advice! I really appreciate your help.
Have you tried loading other worlds in MCEdit? You can figure out if it's a problem with your MCEdit setup, the world, or something else that way. Also try flying upward in MCEdit (Q key by default) -- I know sometimes the camera angle seems to start out in the ground for me.
As for the bosses: I don't know that you can put custom equipment on a spider, but you can on the others. I'd recommend figuring out what kind of setup you want for the boss fights, like the room it will be in, if the bosses spawn other, weaker enemies, and what the major challenge is. Like maybe the skeleton is fast, the zombie is really strong, etc.
Definitely take some time to play other maps that have boss fights, to see what kind of things have already been done.
What kind of custom mobs did you want to create? I'd suggest MCEdit regardless, and a whole bunch of Sethbling's MCEdit Filters. At the very least, you'll want to check out "Create Geared Mob" which lets you make mobs with custom items on them. Most of his filters have videos explaining how they work, so definitely take a look at those.
If you need help with specific MCEdit things, I can probably do that, but the best thing you can do is learn how to use it and the filters, and then play around a lot. It's a useful tool, and it's definitely worth learning.
So I do really like this kind of map, but... this is too easy. Like way too easy. I had over 30 diamonds before the sun set on my first day. Without even leaving the starting island. At that point, there isn't a lot of challenge to the map. The challenges listed in the book are okay for the first half or so, but then are all things that you would see in a MMO -- kill 100 cows, chickens, pigs, sheep? That's going to be really tedious, and there's no easy way for the player to keep track of it.
There's nothing wrong with the basic idea you've got going here -- lots of islands to give the player a sense of exploration/adventure. I would suggest just making it more difficult. Cut down on the resources available, especially on the starting island, and focus on challenges that are fun and unique rather than just grinding. It would also be great if you could at least spell check your books. You can copy and paste text from anywhere into the books, so proofread it first and then put it into the game!

I'm fairly (but not 100%) sure that the chunks surrounding the spawn point are always loaded in smp, barring plugins and non-standard settings.
