    BTW the farmland mob detector works! I've only tested it with zombies so far but if they jump on farmland enough it will change back to dirt causing the update! To test it I made a fence around a rectangle of dirt blocks with regular water in the middle squares and hoed the dirt to make the farmland. There has to be water touching the farmland otherwise the farmland has a chance of going back to dirt on its own. The water guarantees it will become fertile and won't disappear. Anyway I waited till the farmland was fertile and placed some zombies inside the fence and sure enough! When they jump on the farmland just right it goes back to dirt and updates. I tested it a bunch of times with stationary water and it works, them jumping on it definitely cause the farmland to convert back to dirt and the update caused the water to flow. I'm going to try testing it with other mobs =]

    Hey all

    I'm glad you like my motion detector idea - I've tested it a lot it definitely works. I've been playing around with trying to find a mob detector that doesn't involve the creeper explosions. Unfortunately nothing they does updates blocks believe me I have TRIED. It's too bad that arrows don't update redstone like snowballs do. Haha yea I don't know if you guys knew but throwing snowballs at redstone works just like punching it they open doors too. Right now i'm trying to see if getting mobs to jump on farmland will cause it to change back to dirt like when the player jumps on it but I haven't had any luck. In the meantime I'll work on some new mob grinders that's always fun =]

    Hey all just wanted to share an idea I've been working on -

    Here's how it works - lure or place a creeper into a box just large enough to contain it. This creeper cage can be hidden just inside a wall. For it to work there has to be a 1-block opening or window to expose the creeper to the player so it will go off. When the player passes by the creeper will explode and destroy any number of different blocks that you hide behind the wall, creating your signal update. Easy example - attach some stationary water to wood blocks hidden inside the wall, when the wood gets destroyed by the creeper explosion the water gets activated. You can make the wall out of obsidian or bedrock so it doesn't get destroyed or make it something weak like wood and just create a bunch of motion activated bomb traps!

    It takes a second for the creeper to self-destruct so it doesn't always go off simply by passing by.. placing this near a door or furnace puzzle, anywhere the player would stop to pause would be the best way to make sure it gets activated. Another method could be a trap that causes water to flow and push the player up against the creeper cage window just long enough to make him go off. So many possibilities..
