Sounds good to me. I'm always in favor of weird new worlds. Except space. or the moon. Or anything not minecrafty. But this is.
Annnyyyyway....
Perpetual twilight, glowing water, mushroom trees, and strange mobs all sound good. Lots of glowy little sprites perhaps? And fungal beasts? I'm liking this more and more...
EDIT:
Different ores? Lots of bio-luminescence? Lots of organic resources? Sort of like a fay type world, very arcane and such. Could the ingredients for alchemy be found here?
[/stream of continuousness]
One of the silliest well thought out serious ideas I've ever seen on the forums. I would never want it in the game. I can still remember my reaction to the meat pokecube... "That's... made out of... meat... all meat..."
Apologies in advance for the necropost, but I'm considering suggestions again, and trying to revive my topic. xD
@draco222: Too complex, sorry. I know, I'm harsh.
@itchyweasel: Why isn't biome specific differentiation good? I can see how THIS many mobs could be overwhelming. A lot of them are quite rare though, so, they really wouldn't all occur very often.
I would personally love a greater range of mobs, from the mythical to the ordinary, rare to common to go along with our new biomes. Here's my old list, if you want to take a look: Qwill's MOBS MASTER LIST
I've always found the homogeneity of the minecraftian substrate rather enigmatic. Thus I find this a perfectly acceptable addition. I also approve of new materials, as minecraft is indeed a building game in its most basic state, and what is a building game without a variety of resources/materials?
Also having a more complex/realistic geological distribution will be damn cool in general.
No... no you wouldn't with a poll on an open forum... on a topic that's popular during peak hour...
Trying to say that the majority of people won't actually like this idea is pure speculation. The poll isn't conclusive, but it does offer a bit of evidence. If it was closer to 50/50, I might agree with you.
Also, objecting to an idea because it's time consuming is ridiculous. Most good ideas would be.
This is the kind of thing I wouldn't mind being in the game, but wouldn't use at all, like redstone. Sure, redstone is complex, but the complexity is emergent and probably took up less of Notch's total development time than this would probably take to implement. Time being limited, it would be better spent on things I would use and enjoy.
Corrected. Who says people wouldn't use and enjoy this? Check the poll. Evidence.
This has been suggested numerous times (Search, search, search!).
I think that popular consensus is that this type of play would be a toggle-able option for survival mode. I personally hate the idea of hunger/thirst/survival counters for MineCraft. I don't think MC is really even a mainly survival game, despite the name of the game mode. It's really more of a game about innovation, resource gathering, building, etc with elements of combat and survival IMO.
Like i said, though, it should be a toggle-able option if people want it.
Risugami's elemental arrow's mod. Look it up. I agree however that it should legitimately be added to the game.
However, if you want this, you can have it.
1. Still Alchemy, however.
2. In that case, we call it chemistry with a side of magic. Yes, that's where we get the name from, but the etymology isn't so important as the fact that alchemy is now considered something purely fantastical.
My argument stands. An alchemy table could reasonably be used for necromancy.

Or is it purely a model rendered in the game?
