This is just a thought.
I personally have gotten incredibly bored with survival. Having a slow computer doesn't help either.
What I truly want is to have a port of all Alpha features to creative.
In lieu of that, perhaps someone thinks it might be a good idea to make an alpha creative mode mod. Features might include a menu for using any block, infinite blocks. Instant breaking of blocks. Increased block placing range. Flymod incorporated. Making it a separate menu option. Infinite health. Ingame world settings alteration. Freeze time of day.
Anyway, just an idea. If any talented modder is willing to work on this, I have little doubt it would be well accepted in the community.
Also, I realize many of these already have mods. However, I'm referring to a more centralized, integrated sort of thing.
I'm not totally sure how, even though I'm taking an Ap java class, but I believe you need to compile the .java file with javac, then place that class file into Minecraft.jar using a program like WinRAR or 7zip. Remember to delete META-INF at the end. If you're having troubles compiling the code, look up how to compile java classes on google.
I always love the idea of more dimensions.
One thing I would change is that day-time light shouldn't be blindingly bright. That would be a bit annoying. Permanent daytime with frequent sunrises and sunsets (only for effect, no actual day-night transition) sounds better to me.
Just to clarify, some of Notch's recent twitter posts indicate he's really not seriously angry with modders, just frustrated, and a bit disapproving.
NO legal action has ever been mentioned.
NO direct order to stop modding has been issued.
I don't have much of an opinion one way or another I'll play a game with or without mods but I just wanted to point out in the US Courts now there are several cases taking place that could change the way media rights work. if the Defendant wins them in most cases then it would provide precedences that a company can no longer sell just a "license" to a customer and instead sells the "rights" to their copy of the media.
Some of these cases have started from something as simple as someone reselling unopened copies of software on Ebay for a profit and the developers suing him because he only purchased the "license" to operate the software when installed not to sell the product. By selling only a "license" companies are violating first-sale doctrine or so says lawyers defending the case anyways.
okay that's my tidbit I'm gonna go hide before someone yells at me >.>
xD Not going to yell, but I will chime in.
US law =/= international law.
However, I have no idea what international law says on the subject, or what changes are happening to it. It's an interesting topic, and I applaud you for actually referencing a real-world court case.
Also, please everyone don't flame. Be polite. No need for sarcasm here. We can be a civilized community.

Keep the discourse polite please. I don't want this turning into a rage thread.
Also, I like the variety of opinion I'm seeing. Keep up the discussion.
How does an optional addition ruin the game? Is this on the grounds of gameplay being ruined, or moral injustice of altering another's intellectual property in such a way?
I'm personally a bit disappointed Notch has taken a negative stance against modders, but that's his prerogative. He, after all, was the creator and licenser of all the code. It's his intellectual property. He's also said he won't actually take any steps against modders.
So...
Discuss.
Is modding right? Does Notch's proclamation change your stance on modding? What could be the ramifications of continued modding or a cessation of modding?

Indeed.
At least have the decency to add a [REQ] tag before the title of your post.

Is that an official Mojang service?
If so, I encourage anybody who like this idea to upvote that question.

Anyway, brilliant progress.
