Great! I've been looking for a mob texture pack! Especially for Quandary! Great!
EDIT: Wow. That double-great thing was completely unintentional. *face-palm*
Wow. Just marveling, not really back, but 37 for and only 2 completely against is good! If only Notch had a brighter opinion of this sort of thing himself. Also, I'm really not sure how that's a simplification Libervurto. More like you cut off pipes and a lot of the useful fun stuff and made the actual system more like redstone, something I was assiduously trying to avoid. In the end its more complicated.
Changed the dynamo. It works using [insert strange, powerful substance here]. I agree with Wilks' modification. Diamonds don't make much sense. But you're right, MechaMage, it should run on something rare, incredibly efficiently.
The problem with this is the same problem as torches illuminating surroundings while in your hand. Dynamically changing the light source that way is very taxing on the old processors, and there really isn't a solid code base for it, as far as i can understand. It would have to do some sort of thing where it simulates an invisible torch block in the block that it's in, which is deleted when it leaves that space. As I said, taxing on the CPU.
Just a particle effect would work, but really couldn't cast any light.
Hmmm, intriguing...
I will think this over...
after dinner....
mmm, dinner....
xD Really, though, I might change it to that. It sounds reasonable, and the dynamo does allow instant infinite energy for however many devices you can chain gear boxes together (which multiply M.E.), which is a bit overpowered, even wit hthe high-iron cost of gearboxes.
Actually no, you wouldn't need pipes or boilers at all to make complex machines. It's just a possibility. My system includes gears as well, along with drive-shafts.
In conclusion, I think this should be implemented, maybe not in its totality (there is a lot of convolution) but certainly in a more streamlined way which is more obvious to those less technically/mechanically inclined. Notch seems to have a thing about features in the game being "obvious". In other words, if you can't figure out what to do with some entity at a glance, then it probably won't be implemented or at least implemented in the same way as described. The game should always stay intuitive and it should always stay a game, but i'm all for designing REAL automation and REAL machines/traps/hidden secret stuff haha.
Great idea.
It saddens me that Notch might think this way. Just because a two-year-old can't figure it out, doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the game.
Anyway, glad to hear that you like it.
Also, some more things added/further explained.
Yeah, I can see how that might be a problem. How about:
redstone enhancements -> some mechanical power/transfer components -> utility mechanisms -> more mechanical power/transfer components -> piping -> anything else left hanging
It's a little slow, but it avoids update-shock.
Hmmm. Not bad. Perhaps only in single-player creative. It could drastically increase building speed, but only if range to build was extended. Therefore, only safe in sp creative.
Still a good idea. in response to some people:
-Can't dig through cobblestone, or anything except gravel, dirt, ores and natural stone.
-It stops before drops.
-Lava destroys it.
-It can be made by a single player, because of it's intended use (replacing monotony without giant teams of people helping).

I'm leaving the suggestion forum again for a time (last time I was away for 4 months). Soooo... no more thread upkeep. Adios.
P.S. Yes, I am naive and egotistic to think anyone cares. No need to tell me.

Also, creating dynamically floating blocks will take some complex coding. SOmething like block grid entities. Lookit up.
Search the forums, that is.
