posted a message on Resource Pack screwing up player skin? any help?

I'm running Veristicraft and LB 128CGO texture packs, works perfectly fine except while Veristicraft is on the default player skin is completely screwed up. I've looked all throughout the pack and can't even find a player skin in it - so I'm not sure what's causing the problem.

Forge is now whats used for the modding api. The download is available on their website. http://files.minecraftforge.net/ As for mods you may want to stick with 1.6.4 - 1.7.4 the new 1.7.10 alone is laggy on most mid to low end hardware.

Ah I see, well I appreciate the information. Forge is something I honestly never used much,I was always aware of i t but just didn't use mods that required it most of the time I played. I just noticed the launcher allows us to stepdown to older versions, which is certainly a nice addition. Is there any particular reason modders are sticking around 1.7.10? Mojang break something yet again with 1.8?

I suggest checking out the shaders mod, rei's mini-map, Bibliocraft, Tinkers construct, and Galacticraft or The twilight forest. Check out pams harvestcraft too. Basically there is a mod for everything. Just think of what you want in minecraft and there is a mod for that. Want a portal gun? Download the portal gun mod. Simple as that

Yes I'm aware of the extensive reach in MC's modding scene, I've had custom installs with 100 or more mods in them. It's just been so long I no longer know what mods are still going, what mods are updated and what mods do what these days. I'm more looking for specific recommendations for mods that are compatible with 1.8.3, I see a lot appear to not be updated or appear to be static in 1.7 or earlier. I'll look up the ones you mentioned, some sound familiar - pretty sure I had rei's in my collection at one point and I had a portal gun mod when it was first released years ago ( I had a puzzle map I built around the portal gun and controller block mods floating around this site I think at one time).

Does MC still require modloader? Or has mojang gotten off their **** and finally given us an integrated modding API?

I'm hesitant to use any graphics mods like shaders, like I said I'm confined to an underpowered laptop with a cheapo integrated graphics chip. Not sure how much it can handle and my desktop is in pieces at the moment.

I've always viewed Minecraft as a modding platform rather than a game, since I bought in in early Alpha I've never ceased to be amazed by what this modding community can achieve. I however stopped playing MC for quite a long time, mostly because of technical problems I just never got around to fixing.

Having jumped back in, I'm well out of date when it comes to todays modding scene - I haven't played since probably 1.5. Anyone have any simple mod suggestions or recommendations? I'm currently confined to a somewhat underpowered laptop so I'm mostly looking for lightweight mods that are compatible with the newest release version of MC. Any thoughts? I only play offline singleplayer.

Side note, are there any functional mapping programs for the newest release version? I used to have one that would generate a flat or isometric world map img, but it's been so long I don't remember what it was called.

    Do you have Optifine/MCpatcher?

    Did you check for animations?

Also try putting the terrain.png in a seperate zip

Yeah I realized pretty much right after I posted that it was due to the textures having animation strips in a seperate folder. Pretty much a face palm moment, thanks for the response though.

Then right click and Open File location. If that takes you anywhere other then System32, you got yourself a big ol virus.

already checked, it's in system 32. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense that it's a virus either, svchost mimics typically result in high CPU usage at all times from what I have read, this only happens when running Minecraft and even then it's not garunteed as I just played a full session for over an hour with no problems. It could be malware, but the symptoms don't seem to add up to that.

Right click on the process and "Go to services". It'll highlight which system service is hosting for.

Yeah I've tried that, it does this with the other svchosts but the one that's causing the problem doesn't highlight anything.

I've been having this issue the last few days and haven't been able to find a solution yet. After running Minecraft for seemingly random amounts of time (could be 5 minutes, could be an entire play session before it crops up) Java's CPU use will bottom out, dropping under 10%, while an svchost.exe will jump to 40-55% (from 0-5%). This naturally results in a constant unplayable stuttering and forces me to restart the game. I've narrowed down which Svchost is the culprit but I have no idea how to find out what service(s) under that umbrella are sapping my CPU or how to fix it. I have Java set to High Priority (via task manager) but it doesn't seem to help. Any thoughts?

    I'm running Windows 7 HP 32 bit.

I'm using Optifine primarily for the Mipmap function, however this does not seem to be doing anything. Using a 128x128 texture pack (and no mods, only Optifine via magic launcher) distant textures look just as swirly/chaotic as without Optifine installed. I have Mipmapping set to linear for distant smoothing, but it's not helping. Any thoughts?

EDIT: scratch this, seems bumping it up to 4 helped - anything less was not a noticiable improvement.

    guide may help you!

Thanks for the link but it doesn't work for windows seven apparently. Also if it makes any difference the error I get is "The display driver stopped responding and has recovered" after the lock up (I have to then manualy force MC to close in task manager) and not "Bad graphics/display driver".

This is exceedingly annoying, would very much appreciate any help.

I recently got a new laptop, same model as a friend of mine. We both play minecraft on these but there seems to be a problem with mine. I load up a world, clean install, and within a minute or two the game locks up and my screen goes black for a few moments before it recovers. I get an error notice in the task bar saying the display driver stopped responding and has recovered.

My friends laptop is identical in every way to mine but there is absolutely no issue running it on his, any help here?

    System specs:

Intel core I5-2430M 2.4 ghz, 6 gb ram, 64 bit win 7, AMD Radeon HD 6470M

posted a message on Fireswords need Nerfing
    Quote from Daaryl

if you play SMP servers, you might have realized that swords with the flame aspect enchantment catch you on fire for 10 ticks or something. Well nowadays it seems like what I will refer to as fire swords basically let you kill anyone due to this...

The fire damage caused by one fire aspect hit is equivalent to 10 ticks of fire damage, which is coupled with the sword's dps. This puts the dps of the sword at a really high level in comparison to other enchantments that seems to me to be rather unfair. It seems like whenever I fight someone with one of these, I get more hits off but he always wins (mind you I am using usually an equivalently or higher enchanted sword as him.) I tried using a sword with the fire aspect enchant, and miraculously I pretty much never die.

This doesnt make much sense to me, I think that the fire duration and/or power should be nerfed.

    Fire resist potion?

and yeah minecrafts combat has always been fairly simplistic and easy, this is just a new extreme example. I don't think I have ever seen something like this nerfed though, just find a server that doesn't allow such enchants. I'm sure there are some. just like there were ones that didn't allow wolves back when those broke everything combat related.

look at the comment above you, and you'll realize that I'm not alone in this. So there really is no point trying to make me look stupid. And also, the first thing I said in my comment was "I liked it". Notice the "I"?
    That's me, and my opinion.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, i never said otherwise. I also in no part of my post said you were stupid.
However if you look at minecraft objectively - it has never ever been a difficult game in it's own right, though you could and can still self-impose rules on yourself to make it challenging to a degree.

Bed's changed nothing about the games difficulty, they merely removed ten minutes of waiting in hole if one wanted to skip the night. If one does not want to skip the night: E.G. you, the other poster, and everyone else that agrees, then they simply never need sleep in a bed, or even build a bed. They are a 100% optional feature with a bare minimum impact on the game even when used. It's not like they added a mechanics that forces you to sleep each night or suffer some penalty.

This isn't an MMO were electing not to use a bed will put you at a disadvantage to other players, this is a game you can play quite literally however you want and the only person it effects is you (even on online servers this remains true to a great degree). You are complaining about something that is entirely within your own powers to change to how you like it.

If you want to make a legitimate complaint about minecrafts "difficulty" then talk about how mobs hit for next to no damage on anyone wearing any type of armor now, as that is something that is actually outside of your power to change (though technically even this is in your power to change through MC's amazing modding community).

It's become somewhat of an in-thing to rag on a games difficulty as being to easy, you see it on almost every games forums these days. In some cases it has merit, in many it's just e-posturing, here i can't help but think it's a severe case of rose-tinted glasses and confusing tedium with difficulty. But hey that's just my opinion. All i know is I kill creepers just as easily now as back in Alpha, stand in one spot and punch them till they die without even exploding /shrug.

I liked it when there was no beds. newcomers don't get that feeling of surviving the night and seeing mobs burn around them.

As an early Alpha purchaser, I can say newcomers missed absolutely nothing by not experiencing this. Unless you let a creeper sneak up on you, none of the alpha mobs were at all dangerous due to their simplistic AI. After maybe two nights of in game time (three if they are slow) anyone should realize the basics to surviving minecraft's mobs.

But if they really want to try on those rose tinted glasses you're wearing, they are completely capable of trying it simply by not building a bed.

I'm always flummoxed by these Minecraft "balance" and difficulty threads, It has never been a remotely hard game and as a single-player creativity focused sand box game - there's never been any real need to "balance" it. IF you feel something in the game makes it too easy, don't use it, if you want the games mechanics to be harder - mod it. /shrug
