Nooo... Misa did it, before any of that old hype about it began! She was, as far as I know, the first player to ever do it.
This was uploaded on the 17th July 2009, way back in the classic 0.23 version. Regardless, thank you for this post lol. I'm a bit of a Trekkie. =)

After investigating (and losing some hair from the stress) it appears to be an issue with the latest build of Spigot. Others on the official Spigot development thread have confirmed this: https://www.spigotmc.org/threads/bukkit-craftbukkit-spigot-bungeecord-1-13-1-development-builds.336415/page-16
Edit: This has been fully resolved now: https://www.spigotmc.org/threads/bukkit-craftbukkit-spigot-bungeecord-1-13-1-development-builds.336415/page-16#post-3158973

The black areas are the unexplored areas, so yes - that is what Jester was referring to. Basically generating new chunks. However, ingame when Fluffle asked if he could use "/fly" to travel places in already explored areas, Jester said he would like to keep that to a minimum as well. Using "/fly" within the immediate area, and for very short distances (100 blocks?) should be okay.

I let Jester know after the second crash, so hopefully you'll be 'fixed' when he gets online. You're definitely in some corrupted chunks or something similar. Could you please check the Dynamic map every now and then to see if you've been 'fixed', before joining? If you need the link again, it's here: http://mclovers-beta.hosthorde.net:8123/

Thank you for applying - your application is accepted. Make sure to connect to the "beta" server, as the 1.12.2 one is down until further notice. We've almost fully updated to 1.13.1, and already have a number of plugins. Just in case you didn't see it on the opening post, the IP is mclovers-beta.hosthorde.net.

Hello! Your application has been accepted. The 1.12.2 server is offline at the moment, so for the time being you can join the 1.13.1 server. We've updated most things so almost everything we had over there - like Mcmmo - is present in the beta sever. The IP is what's listed on the opening post: mclovers-beta.hosthorde.net
We also have a dynamic map, which you can view in your browser: http://mclovers-beta.hosthorde.net:8123/

(Quoting you so you get a notification.)
I just realised you updated to the 1.13.1 Spigot development build, and we now have Mcmmo! I'll start playing it full time now. However, I'd like to ask will you be transferring over stats, or do you want everyone to start over? A lot of people's (including mine) current stats on 1.12.2 are obscenely high. So it's understandable if you want us to start over. In the event you'll be transferring them over, these are mine:
I'm so happy we have Mcmmo, now lol. It makes it so much easier and "playable" for me. =)

Hmm... so, um. The minimap crashed, and I guess I should post here, since I'm using your "Better PvP" mod. This is what it crashed with:
And here is the actual crash report, in a spoiler for you:
This crash occurred on a semi-vanilla survival server (the one linked in my signature, in particular) after using the '/back' command to return from a mining trip, back to the Enderman farm to repair my pickaxe. Honestly, this is the first time it has happened, and as such isn't reproducible. Still, since it told me to contact you, that's what I'm doing lol.

Sorry for not posting the 9th and 10th pre release updates. However, today 1.13 has been officially released in full. Here's the news post and the developer video showcasing everything: https://minecraft.net/en-us/article/update-aquatic-out-java
Now all we need to do, is wait for Spigot to release a stable server build, and for the developers of our plugins to update them. The latter of which, will only occur once Spigot has a usable build for the developers to test out their updates on.
Currently, Spigot has an unstable 1.13 pre7 build - let me reiterate - extremely experimental development build, which is chock full of bugs and issues. That was posted on Sunday (the 15th of July), and can be found here: https://www.spigotmc.org/threads/bukkit-craftbukkit-spigot-bungeecord-1-13-pre7-development-builds.328883/

The developer video is now out; was just uploaded one hour ago at the time of me posting this:
Here it is:
However, there's apparently a bug that was introduced with this version. Mobs can't be pushed by water streams below a full block height any more. This means mob farms and other things that utilised this function will no longer work, until it's fixed in the next version.

Hello, I've gone ahead and added you to the 1.12.2 server's whitelist:
You'll need to wait for Jester or someone else with Operator rank to add you to the 1.13 snapshot server, though.

Another update again, 1.13-pre8. The current ETA for a full 1.13 release, is now set for the 18th of July. No developer video yet, so here's the official post and a screenshot of the changes: https://minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-113-pre-release-8

Once more, there's another update.
The developer who does the videos is out of the country for awhile, as such, an update video might not be available for some time. He did say that he'll attempt to record changes if he has free time, but that the overall quality of the video may suffer due to not being in the studio. No audio room, custom mic, etc. to use to make it sound professional. So in the meantime, here's the official Minecraft news post: https://minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-113-pre-release-7
And, a screenshot of the changes:
Edit: The video was created surprisingly quickly, despite the above stated facts. Here it is:
Moved the screenshot into a spoiler, since it's no longer needed what with the video.

The developer video for version 1.13pre-6 is out now; the Mojang dev who does them was doing a 12+ hour drive away from home, so he couldn't get to it right away. Here it is:
There's apparently some structure generation issues, and village issues which started in 1.13pre5, or pre4 that have yet to be addressed in this version. So that could be related to the Village bug Jester is talking about. It's rather inconsistent.
Also, on the topic of starting a new world, I don't really think I get much of a say in it since I haven't exactly been actively playing on it. If you still value my opinion regardless, then I'm all for a fresh world again. I'd rather have the weirdo after-effects from bugs in previous snapshots entirely removed.

Yet another update - 1.13-pre6 - and the developer video isn't out yet. So instead, here's the official Minecraft post and the changelog as a screenshot: https://minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-113-pre-release-6
Really long list of bug fixes, so I placed it in a spoiler.

Once more, there's an update. Here's the video created by the Mojang developer, as per usual:
