Yup. The appearance was a cross upon its first release in Minecraft Alpha 1.0.1, back on the 3rd of July, 2010. Here's a screenie I took of it in Alpha 1.0.4:

It's not a "problem", it's intentional: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Java_Edition_1.16
Under the "changes -> gameplay -> fishing"category, it states this:
Mojang basically realised afk fishing is an issue they needed to address. I'm glad they finally did it; players have abused it for far too long. Now, unfortunately... some well known SciCraft redstoners have already found ways around it. Hopefully Mojang patches that as well, before the final release.

"Do note, that to enjoy this, you will need to have an RTX-series graphics card, as they support the necessary features for this to work. This means a 2000-series NVIDIA GPU."
False. The follows graphics cards also support RTX:
- GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
- GeForce GTX 1660
- Nvidia Titan Xp (2017)
- Nvidia Titan X (2016)
- GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
- GeForce GTX 1080
- GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
- GeForce GTX 1070
- GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
So the questions is why aren't ALL RTX cpaable cards supported?
You are misinformed. None of the cards you listed are so-called "RTX". The cards you listed only support 'forced' DXR, via a driver function. The 20-series have hardware accelerated DXR. The Bedrock RTX beta currently requests 20-series only, likely due to the other cards not being capable of running the beta in a playable state right now.
Even my RTX 2080 Ti barely attains 50fps:

Nope, this is referring to all forms of knockback.
E.g., the knockback you receive when being damaged by anything, the knockback enchantment on a sword, the punch enchantment on a bow, the knockback from iron golem attacks, the knockback from ravager attacks, etc. -

Does this snapshot increase enderman spawn rates in the nether? I just tried it and there seemed to be a lot more
It's a bug with the current snapshot which will be fixed later. The lead technical developer at Mojang (slicedlime) explained that in his snapshot news video.

If you bothered to read the title of the post, the first or second sentence, or even looked at the video thumbnail, you would be well aware of the fact that this is for PC only. I don't mean to be rude.
Here is a FAQ about it: https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/news/minecraft-ray-tracing-your-questions-answered/

This is exclusively for the Windows 10 Edition of Bedrock: https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/news/minecraft-ray-tracing-your-questions-answered/
... although, that should have been obvious, considering it says "RTX".

I'm surprised to be on the receiving end of that, lol. It's usually me having to tell others that, when they ask if PTGI requires an RTX card. Whilst I agree this may run better, this will require two things - an RTX card to run at that expected performance level, and windows 10 edition. I don't expect many bedrock players to be using windows 10 edition, and those who are, I expect the majority to be using older/lower-end hardware. Of course that's just my assumption, lol.
PTGI has the benefit of being able to run well on any halfway decent nvidia gpu, as long as you tweak the settings a bit. For example, back when I was still active in the SEUS discord, I managed to help a laptop user with a non-Ti 1050 squeeze out 30fps. Even if they enabled DXR support on the same card, I doubt they would see more than 10fps in bedrock with the above shaders.
You could say that I'm sort of annoyed how this will be a shader exclusive to a select few, lol. Sorry for rambling.

So, this is basically Sonic Ether's PTGI shader, but for Bedrock. Neat, I guess.

No... I don't use twitch, never have, and never will. This is Minecraft's official forum, not some random streamer's fanclub website. Why can't you guys just look into using a dedicated host, to host your forums? I hope you do realise I am not alone in this sentiment, and you will lose thousands of active users over this.

Very small update, still added just about as much as 1.9 did. Maybe someday creative players will actually get an update worth mentioning.
>.>... I'm a creative player, and I disagree with you. Every update thus far (including this one) has added more than enough to satisfy me. I've been a MineCraft addict since 2009; playing non-stop creative until 2013, wherein I finally tried survival.
You can't speak for an entire group of people, nor can I. We each have our own preferences. In your opinion, you feel like this update did nothing for creative lovers like ourselves. That is your opinion. Please do remember that, lol.

O_o
I think Mojang forgot to link the server file.
For anyone who needs it, just change the download link in the previus posts and remove '-pre2' from both parts of the URL, like this:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/versions/1.10/minecraft_server.1.10.jar
If you'd like to do it yourself, copy the download link from the bottom of the last post:

I know it's not my place to help troubleshoot, but since the crash seems to be complaining about a lot of rendering stuff, it might be worth asking them to update their gpu's drivers as well. Their GTX 660 is on driver version 456.71, whereas the current latest is 461.40.

O.O!
I just want to uh...
Yes please, lol.
If/when you do get around to this, I will be very happy.
Not being able to actively view the caves around me without being in a cave, has always been a minor nitpick of mine. It's something I wished other minimaps could do, too. So, I'm really glad to see it's something you have in mind for the future.

I've noticed there seems to be an odd rendering error in my log:
I'm uncertain if this is the minimap, or world map since it lists both.
The glass texture it mentioned, is likely because I am using an old 64x64 texture pack, called "Misa", which is here: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding-java-edition/resource-packs/1223248
She uses a custom model for her glass, so is it possible the mod isn't liking that? I'm not sure if this is even relevant, honestly lol. What I do know is that I need to post this, and ask you if it's something that needs to be fixed.
I'm using 1.16.5 (Fabric loader 0.11.1-1.16.5) with these mods:

Join Misa's discord. The links she has on this thread are outdated; all updates are in the discord. You can find it just above, if you scroll up a bit. Misa herself shared it, in her last post on this thread.

I have a bit of an odd request...
Is there a possibility that you could add a way to rotate the directions? For example, I'd like a setting to change it so that visually, heading west shows me instead as heading north on a specific server. This also applies to the world map, but I figured I would just post on one.
The reason I'm asking, is because I started playing a server called "MineScape" (which has been around since 2012 apparently) and RuneScape's "north" is "west" on this server. As a RuneScape addict, this is extremely disorienting and confusing lol. I find myself staring at the map, unable to make sense of it for short periods before realising where I am. >.>
Here, a screenshot from ingame with your world map:
The entire map is rotated to the left, making what was once north, to be west.
And here's what the minimap shows:
Port Sarim to the left, and Falador to the right. In RuneScape, this was north and south.
Since you said you were also a RuneScape player, I hope maybe this appeal to you can be enough to persuade you to at least look into a setting for this. Once again though, thank you for the time and effort you put into these mods. You are very appreciated.

As explained in the opening post of this thread, Xaero's world map is a client side mod. This means you and your friend will be required to add it to your `.. \AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods` directory. It is not a server plugin.
In regards to having the full map displayed at the start -- no. As far as I'm aware, Xaero's world map has no way to do this.
If you would like a server-side map, I would suggest using Dynmap: https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/dynmap.274/
Everything is explained in detail on Dynmap's wiki page, which you can find on the Spigot page.

Oh, I forgot you had the mods on CurseForge as well. I mean, yeah, I guess their issue system works. I haven't ever used it before, so I'll have to give it a poke when I next have a reason to open one.
Well, if you do ever choose to make it public, I feel like as long as you explain what you just did, very few people would likely comment on it. That said, as wonderfully as your minimap and world map work, I want to doubt it's as poor as you assume it is. Code doesn't have to be pretty looking to be good code.
Yeah, it's nuts how you support so many versions. Even highly experienced developers who I'd call professional, like "nossr50", the creator of the server plugin, "mcMMO", struggle with multi-version support. On his "overhaul" of the plugin, he only has 1.13 to 1.16.1 right now, and has been trying to figure out how to support older versions.
I really do think that you don't give yourself enough credit. You do awesome work.
As always, thank you for the response.

I have a bit of an odd request... is there any possibility of you creating a GitHub repository for your minimap and world map?
If you would prefer to keep the code closed source, I understand, but GitHub could still be extremely useful for handling and organising bug/issue reports and suggestions. Much more so than this old Forum. You could just use it for that, without adding any code to the repository.

Thank you so much for adding fabric support!
Your minimap and world map were the only two things left that were keeping me on Forge. They are essential to me, for me to play Minecraft in any context. My friends have been bugging me to move to Fabric for a while now, lol.
0
So uh, I have a quick question:
I recall reading in the past that you said you would consider adding Fabric support. Is this still on the table?
2
The settings for the world map are not in Forge's mod settings. Xaero has his own ingame settings menu, which I have bound to the F9 key. I don't recall what the default is, but check your keybinds to see.
It has its own section of keybinds:
This is what the settings menu looks like, and the button you need to use:

Thank you, I'll open an issue on sp614x's GitHub for this.
Unless you want to? I'm not by any means a developer, and you could probably explain it better than me.

Hey, so uh. The developer of OptiFine just added Forge support today, to the latest 1.15.2 preview (pre14). However, I'm now encountering a crash similar to the one I had with OptiForge, which I pestered you about on the minimap thread. This time, I'm correctly posting on the world map thread, lol.
Here is the full crash for you, via pastebin: https://pastebin.com/svK15GRm
It's worth noting that the minimum version of Forge supported by the latest OptiFine preview, is the latest development version of Forge - 31.1.63. Not sure if that would have anything to do with it, but I doubt it because I was using that version with the previous OptiFine preview (pre13) and your minimap/world map just fine.
Others have also confirmed this crash, in the OptiFine discord server:
2
There is an open source project called "OptiForge", which aims to add Forge support to OptiFine's 1.15.2 previews. It was created by one of the main contributors to common Forge issues, Zeker: https://github.com/ZekerZhayard/OptiForge
This is what Xaero was referring to.

Please post this on the official OptiFine GitHub, by opening an issue. The developer doesn't check this thread often any more, whereas he responds to GitHub issues rather quickly.
OptiFine's GitHub is here: https://github.com/sp614x/optifine/issues
I'm uncertain if this is because it's easier for him to use, or if he just hasn't had time for anything else.
